Wei Ning took out the Peach Wood Sword, and at that moment, the female ghosts closed in around him. He swung the Peach Wood Sword and struck one of the ghosts head-on, but it felt as if the sword had plunged into rotten mud, making no sound. The ghost's hair flew wildly, entangling Wei Ning's hands and feet, rendering him immobile. As more and more female ghosts surrounded him, their hair wrapped around him tightly. Wei Ning felt as if he could hardly move; their hair was both thin and sharp. One ghost revealed its jagged teeth and bit down on Wei Ning. With a crunch, the ghost seemed to feel pain and quickly retreated, covering its mouth with a grim expression. Looking at Wei Ning's shoulder, he found a ring of teeth marks; the ghost had bitten down so hard that it had broken its own jaw. Suddenly, a sharp shout echoed from Wei Qiuxi, who ignited a talisman in his hand.
The talisman struck the hair entangling Wei Ning, instantly igniting into flames, causing the female ghosts to retreat in panic.
Wei Ning looked at Wei Qiuxi and saw him smiling faintly before spitting out a mouthful of blood.
It turned out that this person had three flames within his body, located at the top of his head and on both shoulders. Normally invisible, these flames governed a person's vitality. In emergencies, they could ignite anything, but using them would leave one exhausted and difficult to recover from in a short time.
It seemed that Wei Qiuxi had used these flames out of desperation to save his grandson, allowing him to ignite the talisman.
Wei Ning felt a surge of emotion. Once he regained his composure, he activated his Yin-Yang Eye and swept it across the female ghosts. They immediately felt discomfort. Gripping the Peach Wood Sword tightly, he swung it and decapitated one ghost. However, to his surprise, when the head hit the ground, the ghost did not die; instead, it became even more violent. Without needing to activate Wei Ning's Yin-Yang Eye again, it lunged at him. Wei Ning struck again with his sword, severing the ghost's arms. Yet those severed arms continued to move on the ground, quickly reaching for Wei Ning's legs. He kicked them away into the Blood Pool.
With both hands wielding his sword, Wei Ning cut through the ghosts' limbs as they flew off in all directions. Yet no matter how much he fought them off, they simply would not die; their severed arms and legs crawled back toward him.
What should I do? If this continues, even a hundred years wouldn't be enough! Wei Ning thought anxiously. At that moment, he noticed that the light from Wei Qiuxi's Ink Binding Line was beginning to dim as more female ghosts pressed toward him.
Feigning an attack to distract them, Wei Ning returned to Wei Qiuxi's side and said, "Grandpa, what should we do?"
Wei Qiuxi sighed deeply and replied, "You should leave first; I'll stay here. Don't let me hold you back. If we take too long, neither of us may escape."
Just then, as the light from the Ink Binding Line faded further, the female ghosts surged forward. Wei Ning swung his sword and killed several of those charging ahead when suddenly an idea struck him. He looked up and said, "Grandpa, I have a plan!"
"What is it?" Wei Qiuxi asked urgently.
The two climbed along the stone wall while below them the ghosts danced wildly, staring at Wei Ning and Wei Qiuxi while making eerie sounds. However, Wei Ning had already moved far away with Wei Qiuxi.
The rocky wall was steep and difficult to navigate. Even for Wei Ning, who was used to climbing alone, it took a considerable amount of effort. Now, with another person behind him, by the time they emerged from the cave, Wei Ning was panting heavily and collapsed onto the ground, feeling utterly exhausted. Looking at his hands, he noticed the skin had already been scraped raw.
These were Qiqi's hands, and Wei Ning felt a surge of heartache.
