The man lowered his eyes, cautiously observing the ripples in the pond. Suddenly, he felt a stirring in his gut, and his expression shifted to one of tension as he remained motionless, fixated on the lake's surface. At that moment, a female ghost slowly glided over, extending her tongue like a fish and biting down on the man's intestines. Instantly, his face lit up with joy as he yanked on his intestines and forcefully flung the ghost onto the shore.
As soon as the ghost hit the ground, she began to thrash about like a fish out of water. The man, filled with childlike glee, pinned her down and used his claw-like hands to slice open her chest. In an instant, her foul-smelling insides spilled out onto the ground. Wei Ning and Wei Qiuxi felt a wave of nausea rise within them, unable to contain their disgust.
Yet the man seemed unfazed, rummaging through the ghost's corpse repeatedly while muttering, "Is there a Soulfish? Is there a Soulfish?" After searching for quite some time without finding what he sought, he slumped his shoulders and murmured, "Why is it not here again? Damn it."
Suddenly, he lifted his head and looked at Wei Ning and Wei Qiuxi, exclaiming loudly, "It must be in your hands! You definitely took the Soulfish from this corpse while I was reeling it in! Give it back to me!" He then began to cry and wail on the ground like a child, though his appearance was far from commendable.
Wei Qiuxi cleared her throat and stepped forward. "But Wuchang Young Master…?"
The man looked up thoughtfully. "Wuchang Young Master? Who is that? I have intestines; look." He waved a piece of Large Intestine in front of them. Wei Ning and Wei Qiuxi exchanged looks of distress; this horrifying scene would likely haunt them for the rest of their lives.
Wei Qiuxi suppressed her nausea and said, "I don't care who you are; tell me if you know how to get to the Corpse Demon."
"Corpse Demon?" Wuchang Young Master seemed to be trying hard to recall something. "That name sounds familiar. Are you two from there as well? If so, why not take me with you? I don't want to play here anymore; fishing is no fun at all."
Wei Qiuxi coughed again. "Wuchang Young Master, we don't have time for games. Please tell us how to get to the Corpse Demon so that you can… um… fish for yourself… and we can go our separate ways. How about that?"
"Corpse Demon! Right! I remember now!" Wuchang Young Master suddenly clapped his hands like a child. "Wei Xianjun! Wei Xianjun sent me here to catch Soulfish for him! As long as I catch a Soulfish, he will let me go back! I need to hurry up and fish; otherwise, I won't be able to return!"
With that, Wuchang Young Master's expression turned serious again as he hurriedly plunged his Large Intestine into the Blood Pool, beginning his grim task of fishing for corpses.
Wei Qiuxi exchanged glances with Wei Ning. Upon hearing Wuchang Young Master mention Wei Xianjun's name—and that it was Wei Xianjun who had sent him here—they felt a spark of hope ignite within them. Wei Qiuxi said, "Wuchang Young Master, do you know Wei Xianjun? We are both his disciples. Please tell us where he is."
Wuchang Young Master remained silent, his gaze quietly lowered to the surface of the lake. Wei Qiuxi and Wei Ning had no choice but to patiently wait beside him. Suddenly, Wuchang Young Master's expression changed; he shook the Large Intestine in his hand, and another female corpse was pulled up. He repeated his earlier actions, slicing open the corpse's abdomen in search of something, but once again, he left disappointed.
Wuchang Young Master abruptly stood up in a fit of anger and shouted, "It must be you who are causing trouble again, secretly taking away this Soulfish! How else could I have caught two corpses in a row without finding anything?" With that, he raised his claw-like hand as if to strike.
Wei Qiuxi coldly replied, "Have you ever caught what you were looking for?"
Wuchang Young Master was taken aback. After a long moment of contemplation, he sighed and said, "No."
"Then why are you still here?"
Wuchang Young Master scratched his head with his claw-like hand and muttered, "Right, why am I still here?"
Wei Qiuxi continued, "Since you claim to be without intestines, whose intestines are those in your hand?"
Wuchang Young Master clutched the Large Intestine to his chest defensively and retorted, "Naturally they are mine. Are they yours?"
Suddenly, Wei Qiuxi's eyes lit up as she shouted, "You are a Shadow Corpse! Instead of resting peacefully in the ground, you disturb the living. What is your purpose?"
It turned out that Wei Qiuxi and Wei Ning had already realized that Wuchang Young Master was merely a Corpse Transformation—a reanimated corpse. The question remained: why did he tirelessly fish for corpses again? Who was directing him? There was certainly a story behind it.
Wuchang Young Master muttered to himself, "Right, why is it that others have died while I cannot? I want to die too; I want to die." Suddenly, he collapsed straight onto the ground, yet he stubbornly refused to let go of the Large Intestine in his hand.
Wei Qiuxi said, "Since you are determined to seek death, why cling to these worldly possessions? You might as well give them to me." With that, she reached out her hand to snatch the Large Intestine used for fishing corpses from Wuchang Young Master's grasp.
The Wuchang Young Master suddenly sprang back as if a dead fish had leaped out of the Oil Cauldron, retreating several meters while firmly gripping the Large Intestine, refusing to let go.
Wei Ning and Wei Qiuxi exchanged glances, clearly aware that the connection between the Wuchang Young Master and the Corpse Demon likely lay within this Large Intestine.
Shadow Corpses differ from Zombies; they are transformed from those who died unjustly or violently in life, harboring deep resentment and a tendency to harm others. However, they are not as ferocious as Zombies, making them easier to subdue. Wei Ning and Wei Qiuxi hesitated to act, hoping to extract memories from someone’s mind to find what they sought.
Wei Ning glanced at Wei Qiuxi, who nodded in agreement. Quickly, Wei Ning pulled out Five Emperor Coins from his pocket. The coins flew above the Wuchang Young Master's head, spinning rapidly. The Wuchang Young Master was immobilized by the Five Emperor Coins, his expression fading as he curled up on the ground, unable to move. Yet, he still clutched the Large Intestine tightly in his hand.
Wei Qiuxi stepped forward, extending her hand and coldly stating, "Hand over that item to us, and we will spare your life."
The Wuchang Young Master shook his head, still unwilling to release the Large Intestine.
Wei Qiuxi pressed on, "Is this Large Intestine something Wei Xianjun gave you?"
