Suddenly, Monkey Fei raised his voice and said, "I've been wondering what kind of hero could be so fiercely protected by Qiqi. It turns out to be you, the scoundrel who has an affair with the Phoenix Maiden. It's truly a pity that Qiqi has given herself to you."
"Monkey Fei, shut up!" Qiqi exclaimed anxiously.
"What did you say?" Wei Ning shouted.
Monkey Fei sneered at Qiqi's panicked face and said, "Where do you think this skinless Blood Corpse got its skin? It was given to you by Qiqi!"
"Monkey Fei, I said shut up!"
A thunderous boom echoed above Wei Ning's head. He felt as if he were about to faint, desperately shaking Qiqi while tears streamed down his face. "Is it true? Is it really true?"
Qiqi stood there like a statue, allowing Wei Ning to shake her without uttering a word.
Wei Ning cried out in anguish, his face contorted in pain as he crouched on the ground, gripping his hair tightly. His nails dug deep into his scalp. How could he ever repay such a great favor from Qiqi?!
Suddenly, Wei Ning stood up, pulling out the Peach Wood Sword and pointing the tip at his throat. Qiqi gasped in horror and shouted, "Wei Ning, what are you doing?"
Wei Ning looked at Qiqi and rasped, "I’m the one who caused you to suffer like this. I don’t want this skin anymore." With that, he plunged the sword into his throat. Qiqi quickly grabbed his hand, desperately trying to stop him. "What are you doing?!"
At that moment, Wei Ning had just heard the news and was in a frenzy, determined to repay Qiqi’s kindness. He couldn’t hear her words; she was too weak to stop him as she watched him prepare to tear himself apart.
With a sudden slap, Qiqi struck Wei Ning's face.
He froze instantly.
"I do all this for you so that you can live well. With you acting like this, how can you face me?" Qiqi trembled all over, her voice breaking with tears.
"You're right." It seemed as if Qiqi's slap had awakened Wei Ning. He wrapped his arms around her waist and gently kissed her lips like a dragonfly touching water. "Qiqi, we’re going home."
"Home?" Monkey Fei sneered. "Back to your old home!" With that, he raised his hand and a plume of green smoke exploded at the cave entrance. "Poisonous?" A chill ran through Wei Ning’s heart as he held Qiqi and ducked inside the cave. Suddenly, a loud crash came from outside. "This is bad!" Wei Ning quickly flew out with Qiqi in his arms, but a massive stone had already sealed off the entrance.
Outside the cave, Monkey Fei's maniacal laughter echoed: "You see, this Spirit of the Cave set up this barrier outside to prevent the Cave Woman from escaping. You two adulterers—no, I mean lovesick fools—can just stay here and serve the Spirit of the Cave."
The sounds from outside grew fainter as Monkey Fei clearly led everyone away.
"Damn it," Wei Ning cursed inwardly as he looked down at Qiqi in his arms. Qiqi wore a calm expression, as if she had already resigned herself to the situation.
Qiqi picked up her hat from the ground and placed it on her head, saying softly, "You shouldn't look at me like this."
Wei Ning swatted the hat off her head and replied, "Fool, from now on I want to see you like this every year, every moment, for the rest of your life."
Qiqi sighed deeply within herself. After going through so much and sacrificing so much, she had finally earned this man's recognition. At that moment, she longed to bury herself in his embrace, to feel his warmth and affection, to grow old together in this desolate place without ever parting.
But at that moment, a voice echoed in her mind: Qiqi, look at yourself; you no longer deserve him.
She reached out to pick up the hat again, but a strong hand grasped hers. Unconsciously, Qiqi intertwined her fingers with Wei Ning's, their hearts tangled together.
Looking up, she met Wei Ning's determined gaze. Qiqi fell silent and allowed him to lead her into the dark depths of the cave.
"Damn it! Who took the rope?" Wei Ning exclaimed angrily. He had intended to find the cave entrance where he and the Phoenix Maiden had descended, but now the rope was gone. The last glimmer of hope in his heart shattered, prompting him to stomp his foot in frustration.
"This must be fate," Qiqi sighed. "Let's go back."
Both of them carried their own thoughts as they silently held hands on their way back.
The ever-burning lamp at the top of the cave still emitted a dim light. Under its glow, Qiqi appeared ghostly. They walked in silence until Wei Ning suddenly spoke up: "Qiqi, can I see your body?"
Qiqi trembled at his words and hurriedly replied, "No."
"I have to see," Wei Ning insisted urgently. "I need to know if you are..."
Qiqi grasped Wei Ning's hand tightly and pleaded softly, "Please don't."
"Qiqi, do you really think I would despise you after seeing you? You mean so much to me; if I were to betray you after all this, would I still be human?"
Qiqi held onto Wei Ning's hand without moving. Slowly, she lifted her head and whispered, "Tomorrow. Tomorrow I promise I'll show you the most beautiful Qiqi."
Hearing her plea softened Wei Ning's heart. He nodded and said, "Alright then, tomorrow you must show me."
Qiqi nodded.
The dim light cast long shadows over the two tormented lovers, and Wei Ning sighed, saying, "It's late. Let's get some sleep and think of a solution in the morning."
"Mm." Qiqi replied, "You sleep on that stone bed. I'll just find a place to rest for a bit."
Wei Ning tightened his grip on Qiqi's hand and said, "Qiqi, after everything we've been through, why are you still keeping your distance from me?"
Qiqi lowered her head, unable to meet Wei Ning's gaze. He pulled her close, and they lay side by side on the stone bed. Wei Ning wrapped his arms around Qiqi with all his strength, while she felt like a startled deer in his embrace, panicking.
Wei Ning tossed and turned; after all they had experienced that night, how could he calm down? It wasn't until morning that he finally fell into a deep sleep.
The next day, Wei Ning woke up to see Qiqi by an ancient well, grooming herself. Her long legs, as fair as frost and snow, were submerged in the water, gently rippling the surface.
"Ah!" Wei Ning screamed, rubbing his eyes and pinching himself hard—this was not a dream.
Qiqi's skin! Qiqi's skin!!
Suddenly, Qiqi turned her head. Her lovely face blossomed like a hundred flowers as she sweetly smiled and said, "You're awake!"
