Lin Lingsu struggled, and the iron shackles tightened a little more. "Let me go."
"Let you go?" Li Xin grinned lewdly. "Do you really think I would just let go of such a beautiful woman?"
Lin Lingsu spoke each word with conviction. "Let me go, or I will make you wish you were dead."
"Wish I were dead?" Li Xin chuckled. "What I want right now is for you to drive me wild." With that, he leaned in closer.
Lin Lingsu fought against her restraints, but it was futile. Li Xin taunted, "Struggle all you want; the more you fight, the more excited I become. Beautiful Lin, I've waited over ten years for this moment. Just grant me my wish." He pressed his lips hard against her face and sighed, "The beauty rolls up her curtain, sitting deeply with furrowed brows. All I see are tears staining her cheeks, but I don't know who she resents. Tonight, I will make you understand who it is that you truly hate." With his lust burning fiercely, he eagerly began to undress.
"Li Xin, you're asking for death!" Lin Lingsu gritted her teeth, her eyes nearly blazing with fury. But Li Xin paid no heed to her anger; her resistance only fueled his desire further. At that moment, he was oblivious to everything else, focused solely on claiming Lin Lingsu.
After all, they were now legally married; Lin Lingsu had responsibilities to fulfill.
"Li Xin, look behind you," Lin Lingsu suddenly shouted.
Li Xin turned sharply and saw the grains scattered on the ground beginning to crackle. From within the white grains crawled several large white worms that quickly covered his feet. The worms spun white silk like cocoons, wrapping tightly around his legs. Li Xin's expression changed as he panicked. "So you've been planning this all along..."
"That's right."
The worms multiplied rapidly, and the silk they produced flowed faster and faster. Li Xin had been so consumed by lust that he hadn't noticed until Lin Lingsu pointed it out; by then, it was too late. The white silk had completely ensnared his legs and was climbing higher at an alarming rate.
Lin Lingsu formed a hand seal and miraculously slipped free from the shackles. By now, the silk had wrapped around Li Xin's arms, binding him tightly.
Li Xin groaned in despair. "So you've been scheming against me from the start."
"Likewise."
"But don't forget, without me, you can't control the entire situation at Dragon Tiger Mountain."
Lin Lingsu replied, "I know that, but Li Xin, you truly disgust me." With one hand free, she deftly used a piece of wire to unlock the cuffs. In no time at all, she had freed herself completely and stood up.
"Don't forget, if it weren't for me, you would have died at Ning Suwen's hands long ago."
"That's true, but if you hadn't plotted against me just now, I might have truly considered marrying you. However, Li Xin, this is your own doing. You should know my temper..."
"Heh," Li Xin sneered. "If you truly wanted to marry me, would you have planted poison among the Grain and taken advantage of my distraction to lead me into a trap?"
"If you really think that way, there's nothing I can do about it. I suppose I don't need to explain myself to you."
Li Xin's expression softened as he said, "Alright, I admit I was wrong just now. From now on, I won't step foot in your room. Will that suffice?"
"It's too late!"
Li Xin's pupils began to constrict as he asked, "Are you really going to put me to death just because of what happened earlier?"
"Yes." Lin Lingsu's tone held no trace of emotion.
"Heh, Lin Lingsu, do you really think of yourself as some fairy on an iceberg, untouched by the world? If it were that other guy, you'd probably be eager to throw yourself into his arms by now."
Mentioning Wei Ning caused Lin Lingsu's expression to change immediately. Li Xin continued, "Lin Lingsu, let me tell you this: that guy isn't dead; he's been making quite a name for himself at the Corpse Driving Conference. But sorry to say, the news of our engagement has already spread far and wide. He probably knows about it by now. Hahaha."
Upon hearing that Wei Ning was alive, Lin Lingsu immediately asked anxiously, "He's not dead?"
"That's right; he's alive. However, I bet he's suffering more than if he were dead. Hahaha! If I remember correctly, you once made some painful vows about being willing to remain a widow for him. So why aren't you keeping that vow now? Hahaha! Now that he's back alive and kicking, if he knew how eagerly you're waiting to get married, he'd be heartbroken. Knowing his personality, who knows where he's hiding in some dilapidated temple crying secretly?"
"Li Xin, do you believe I'll kill you?"
Li Xin seemed to have completely given up and shouted loudly, "Lin Lingsu, what can you do to me? Killing someone is just a matter of life and death; if I die at your hands, it would still be a flamboyant end for me as a ghost! Hahaha! But you, Lin Lingsu, poor and pitiful person that you are—just keep living. This world has nothing for you but torment and pain. Hahaha! I'll be watching from hell."
"Shut up!" Lin Lingsu clearly was genuinely angry as she shouted.
"Lin Lingsu, do you really think you're a romantic? Do you truly understand love? Do you really believe you like Wei Ning? Stop deceiving yourself; you don't understand anything at all. If you really liked Wei Ning, why wouldn't you let go of everything and run away with him? Enough with the excuses; what you're unable to let go of is your greedy heart."
"Shut up!"
Li Xin continued relentlessly, "That guy has suffered so much for you, endured countless hardships, and how do you repay him? You’ve stripped him of everything, are you even human? You keep saying you love him, that you won't marry anyone else, and yet? Just give it up, you disgusting woman. You're so hypocritical, I could just vomit!"
Lin Lingsu trembled with anger, momentarily at a loss for words.
Li Xin pressed on, "Love, Lin Lingsu, do you even have the right to mention those two words? If you truly loved someone, you'd be willing to sacrifice everything for them, even your life. But what about you? You've merely toyed with his feelings and your own. You're just looking for an excuse to absolve yourself of your actions. You don't deserve Wei Ning, nor do you deserve the word 'love.' A woman like you should be tied up and publicly shamed, then thrown into a pig cage. Ha ha..."
"Li Xin, do you believe I’ll cut out your tongue?"
"Go ahead, if you're going to cut it off, then do it. I’m not afraid. If it falls into your hands, then I’ll consider myself enlightened. But Lin Lingsu, remember this: what goes around comes around; you won’t have a good ending."
Lin Lingsu forced herself to calm down and said, "Li Xin, fine. I want you to understand clearly today. Look who he is!"
With that, Lin Lingsu walked behind the bed and slowly brought someone out from behind it.
Li Xin was about to curse again when he saw the person. His pupils dilated rapidly, disbelief spreading across his face as his mouth fell open wide enough to swallow a person's head. He blurted out:
"Wei Ning!!!"
