The rain began to fall incessantly, drenching everything in its path. The disciple who lay dead on the ground had not even received a proper retrieval of his body; he simply lay there, blood mingling with water and slowly spreading beneath everyone's feet. The vivid crimson seemed to remind everyone of the gravity of the situation.
"Speak another word, and he will serve as an example!" Lin Lingsu's voice rang out sharply.
Standing tall in the rain, Lin Lingsu surveyed all those below. It was clear that she had merely borrowed the guise of governance to legitimize her usurpation of power. The appearance of the Deputy Director signaled that Lin Lingsu had successfully secured the support of the authorities.
With this backing, combined with her deep-rooted influence cultivated over many years at Dragon Tiger Mountain, she had nurtured a substantial following among the younger disciples. After having suppressed dissent with an iron fist moments ago, there were no further objections from the remaining disciples. Her assumption of leadership was now a foregone conclusion, merely expedited.
As for Ning Suwen, aside from his die-hard supporters, the rest lacked even the energy to glance in his direction.
This was reality. A stark reality.
"I have reached an agreement with the Board of Directors," Lin Lingsu declared loudly. "From today onward, I will be the Chairwoman and General Manager of Dragon Tiger Mountain, and I will discuss plans for going public with the authorities."
"Going public?" A buzz arose from the crowd below.
Lin Lingsu looked at the whispering disciples and continued, "Once we go public, each of you will receive a share. You all understand its value, don't you?"
"Really?" The noise grew louder. Dragon Tiger Mountain emphasized simplicity and detachment from worldly desires; most disciples lived on meager salaries and often had to ask their families for support. Yet they were still human, aware of money's many benefits. Lin Lingsu's words could make them wealthy overnight—a strategy that hit home.
Indeed, the disciples began to chant in unison, "The Chairwoman is wise!" Their voices echoed throughout Dragon Tiger Mountain, resonating long after. In that moment, Lin Lingsu's authority reached its peak.
Her maneuver was nothing short of brilliant. She instantly won over all the disciples' hearts; as for the former leader Ning Suwen, these disciples had likely already forgotten him.
Lin Lingsu raised her hand to quell the fervent crowd below. "Now, I have two matters to address..."
She glanced around, took a deep breath, and said, "First, all disciples—whether on the mountain or off—are to descend immediately. The sole purpose is to gather information on Wang Chuyi's whereabouts. Anyone who has news must report it to me at once. If you believe you have some skill, you may eliminate him on the spot without reporting back; upon success, you can claim thirty percent of our company's shares..."
"Thirty percent." The disciples below took a deep breath and began to whisper among themselves. "That's millions in assets! People die for wealth, and birds perish for food. Even if one lacks strength, they would still want to take a chance." With this thought, countless disciples began to roll up their sleeves, eager to act immediately.
The thunderous methods, combined with the foolproof strategy of monetary incentives, seemed to have achieved the desired results for Lin Lingsu.
"Secondly," Lin Lingsu paused and glanced at Li Xin, "in ten days, I will be marrying Vice Director Li. Everyone is welcome to celebrate with us."
"What!" Another bombshell! The crowd erupted. Lin Lingsu was getting married, and to Li Xin of all people—weren't they supposed to be bitter enemies who never interacted? How could this happen?
"Alright, let's discuss any matters later. Meeting adjourned!" With a wave of her hand, Lin Lingsu signaled the disciples to exit in an orderly fashion.
Standing before the Immortal Water Cliff, Lin Lingsu finally reached a pinnacle in her life, accomplishing what she had dreamed of for twenty years. To her left was Li Xin, to her right was Xu Suwen, and behind her stood a group of elders. The ground was filled with departing disciples; with just a wave of her hand, tens of thousands cheered loudly. She had finally stood at the highest point of Dragon Tiger Mountain, fulfilling her father's unfinished dream.
Her emotions surged.
Suddenly, a heavy rain began to fall. Lin Lingsu stood in the rain when she felt a sharp pain on her right cheek. Wiping it away, she found her hand stained red with blood mixed with rainwater.
The wound had reopened without her noticing...
"Ah, it's raining..." Wei Ning gazed blankly at the sky and sighed. "Can someone tell me why I’m here? Wasn't I already dead?" Faces of Lin Lingsu, Li Xin, and Ning Suwen flashed through Wei Ning's mind as if it were just yesterday. He only remembered that he had charged into Dragon Tiger Mountain alone to save Ding Ying and had been captured after failing; everything else was a blur.
Wei Ning looked at his hands, which had become surprisingly smooth and white. He examined his skin, delicate like soft translucent cream, faintly revealing the bluish veins beneath—a striking white that shimmered like porcelain under the sunlight. What was happening? Wei Ning stared at his skin in disbelief; he could hardly recognize himself.
A thick fog clouded Wei Ning's mind as a fleeting image crossed his thoughts.
Half of a silver-white mask concealed a face as cold as ice, devoid of any smile. Yet within those elegant brows sparkled tears that seemed to hold the weight of the world.
Wei Ning felt a sudden pain in her heart, and when she tried to think further, that face had already vanished.
Where is she now?
Is she doing well?
For some reason, Wei Ning found herself overwhelmed by memories of her smile and frown, as if they were so close yet so far away.
She should be getting married soon, right?
With a deep sigh, Wei Ning felt a wave of melancholy wash over her in the rain, allowing the raindrops to fall on her face, unsure whether it was rain or tears.
Suddenly, the rain stopped abruptly.
Wei Ning turned around.
A woman holding a Red Umbrella slowly shielded her from the rain above.
With a radiant smile, she said, "I've been waiting for you for a very long time..."
