Lin Lingsu, Xu Suwen, and everyone present suddenly turned pale, their eyes filled with disbelief.
Lin Lingsu clenched his teeth and exclaimed, "The Blood Corpse has emerged?!"
"Impossible, impossible! The time hasn't come yet. The time hasn't come!" Xu Suwen, usually calm and composed, now had a twisted expression filled with terror.
"What are we waiting for? Let's go back, everyone!" Lin Lingsu commanded, disregarding anyone else as he shot off in one direction.
Next was Xu Suwen, followed by all the disciples who had just realized what was happening. In an instant, the once desolate battlefield was left only with Yang Na and Zhang Ye.
Yang Na let out a sigh of relief, patting her chest as she said to Zhang Ye, "What are you waiting for? Let's follow them."
The two quickly trailed behind the disciples of Dragon Tiger Mountain.
A hand, stripped of flesh, slowly emerged from the ground. The earth was stained red, as if soaked in blood. Lin Lingsu, Xu Suwen, and all the disciples surrounded this hand, not daring to move or even speak. The silence was suffocating, broken only by the torrential rain drenching everyone.
In the sky above, under the vast heavens, the wind and rain continued to pour down, creating a desolate scene. All attention focused on that hand.
The silence was so profound that even each other's breathing could be distinctly heard.
Suddenly, it moved. The hand clenched tightly as if a silent thunderclap exploded in everyone's hearts.
A bloodied hand.
An odd sound echoed around them; the trees in the mountains made strange noises as if something had been awakened.
"Thud. Thud. Thud." The blood-red earth suddenly cracked open like an earthquake. Everyone felt the ground shake violently; the tremors grew stronger, and the fissures widened until a blood-red figure surged upward.
Lin Lingsu took a deep breath and shouted sharply, "Fire!"
The disciples were already on high alert, waiting for Lin Lingsu's command. They pulled the triggers without hesitation, aiming at the red figure. Bullets formed a dense web of fire; sparks flew as the deafening gunfire resonated with the rolling thunder.
After a tremendous roar, silence fell abruptly over the ground. All the disciples had fired their weapons recklessly until they were out of bullets; the immense recoil left their arms numb.
But at that moment, they could think of nothing else. Fear consumed their eyes—deep fear that even infected their leaders, Lin Lingsu and Xu Suwen.
The battle came to an abrupt halt.
Everyone stood frozen.
Silence enveloped the scene, so profound that even the sound of a needle dropping could be heard clearly.
The red figure stood still, and as everyone finally discerned what it was, they couldn't help but gasp in shock.
This being was not entirely human. Its body split from the center of its forehead; on the left side was a "person," with familiar features—this was Wu Haozi, someone Lin Lingsu recognized, riddled with bullet holes.
On the right side, however, lay a gruesome sight: the skin had been completely stripped away, leaving only shreds of flesh hanging, blood dripping onto the ground below. The air was thick with a nauseating stench of blood.
Was this a human or a ghost?!
"How can it be him?!" The sudden appearance of Wu Haozi, who had been buried in the ground, took everyone by surprise. The sight of his right side, devoid of skin, was horrifying.
Lin Lingsu's mind suddenly sparked with realization. "I understand now; it's the Soul-Eating Doll! He has become half of Wei Xianjun!"
With Lin Lingsu's reminder, Xu Suwen was the first to react. He shouted loudly, "It's fine! He’s not a Blood Corpse; he’s still human! Don’t be afraid—let’s attack him with everything we’ve got!"
"Don't move," Yang Na exclaimed as she grabbed Zhang Ye, who was about to rush forward. "Do you think you can withstand that many bullets? If you go now, you'll be walking into your own death."
"But Haozi... I can't just stand by and watch him die."
"Yes, he's in that state now. Can't you see? He's holding off the enemy to give us a chance to save Wei Ning!"
"But..."
"There’s no room for 'buts' anymore..." Yang Na firmly grasped Zhang Ye and maneuvered around the disciples of Dragon Tiger Mountain, hurrying towards the direction of the Wishing Tree.
Suddenly, Wu Haozi stretched out his arms and let out a long, mournful roar. In an instant, he lunged forward and stood before two disciples from Dragon Tiger Mountain. With one bloody hand sweeping through the air, he plunged it into their bodies and pulled out two warm, still-beating hearts.
"I want blood! I'm so thirsty..." Wu Haozi's throat quivered as he spoke in a low voice before bringing the two bleeding hearts to his mouth and devouring them hungrily.
The two disciples stared at Wu Haozi in disbelief before glancing down at their gaping wounds. Their faces were filled with an expression they had never experienced before—a mix of horror and disbelief.
Thud. Thud. They collapsed backward.
After finishing both hearts, Wu Haozi licked the blood from his hands with an insatiable hunger still lingering in his eyes as he surveyed the surrounding disciples of Dragon Tiger Mountain.
Lin Lingsu shouted loudly to rally the nearby disciples and charged toward Wu Haozi first. Wu Haozi's eyes were blood-red as he glared at the disciples from Dragon Tiger Mountain. Lin Lingsu brandished his Seven Star Sword and thrust it directly into Wu Haozi's chest. Wu Haozi looked down at the sword embedded in him and then back at Lin Lingsu.
Lin Lingsu and Wu Haozi locked eyes. Suddenly, a feeling of dread surged from the depths of her heart.
This was merely from a single glance at Wu Haozi.
"This is bad." Lin Lingsu decisively let go and retreated swiftly. However, the two disciples following her were not so fortunate. Each was caught by Wu Haozi with one hand.
Then, with a violent motion, he struck their heads together.
With a loud bang, brain matter splattered everywhere, covering Wu Haozi's face.
Wu Haozi greedily held onto the two severed heads, eagerly sucking the brain matter as if it were some exquisite delicacy.
"This is terrible; at this rate, we won't be able to stop this monster." Xu Suwen exclaimed urgently. "This creature has already betrayed the Three Souls and Six Spirits, merging with the Soul-Eating Doll to become a being that is neither human nor corpse. The Dao Techniques within the Six Realms cannot subdue it..."
"What do we do now?" Lin Lingsu asked anxiously. At this moment, Wu Haozi had already killed several disciples from Dragon Tiger Mountain, leaving behind severed limbs and a nauseating stench of blood everywhere.
"Strip the Soul!" Xu Suwen said fiercely.
