The night wind swept in, lifting the hem of an unknown garment. The three of them formed a triangular formation, waiting for the right moment to strike. The metallic scent of blood thickened in the air, filling it with a chilling atmosphere.
"Are you here to save Wei Ning?" Lin Lingsu suddenly spoke up.
"Yes," Zhang Ye replied. "Three years ago, my brother was killed by you all. After three years, can I not even protect his body and ensure he rests in peace? Am I still human?"
Lin Lingsu's gaze turned venomous as it fixed on Zhang Ye. Slowly, she said, "Do you know how powerful my Dragon Tiger Mountain is? Even with the help of the Laoshan Taoist, you won't be able to take his body. Instead, you might end up losing your life."
"So what?" Zhang Ye answered defiantly.
"Is it worth it?"
Zhang Ye puffed out his chest and declared, "It's worth it!"
"Why?"
Zhang Ye smiled confidently and said, "If I can't win, then at least I die trying. But Wei Ning is my brother; I'd take a knife for him. Dying for him is worth it."
"Because he is my brother..." Lin Lingsu's eyes suddenly narrowed as she slowly chewed on Zhang Ye's words. Then she said, "You can go now, just pretend you were never here."
"Leave? On what grounds?" Zhang Ye sneered, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. "I haven't even gotten Wei Zi's body yet. How could I possibly leave?"
Lin Lingsu's expression turned cold as she enunciated each word clearly: "Are you really not afraid of death?"
"Who knows who will live or die?" Zhang Ye shouted, his blade transforming into a streak of green light as he swung it down at Lin Lingsu. She conjured a Seven Star Sword seemingly out of nowhere, and their blades clashed with a sound like a dragon's roar. Zhang Ye's strength was astonishing; Lin Lingsu's left arm was injured, and she staggered back three steps before barely regaining her balance. Seeing his advantage, Zhang Ye did not give Lin Lingsu a moment to recover and swept his large blade toward her with overwhelming force.
In times of war, a man like Zhang Ye would undoubtedly become a fierce general. Although he had not received formal training in swordsmanship and relied mostly on street-fighting experience, his strikes were sharp and decisive, targeting Lin Lingsu's vital points. Lin Lingsu's swordplay was swift and agile, but Zhang Ye fought recklessly, aiming to take them both down together. With Lin Lingsu having been ambushed and injured by Zhang Ye, she could only defend herself without the strength to counterattack.
With a fierce shout, Zhang Ye poured all his strength into one final blow. The blade surged with energy as it sliced through the air toward Lin Lingsu’s slender neck. She raised her sword to block it; there was a loud clang as their weapons collided violently. The sound echoed throughout the area as both their weapons shattered simultaneously. Lin Lingsu used her agility to dodge to the side, but Zhang Ye pursued her relentlessly like a rabid dog, lunging at her with the broken half of his blade.
"Get away from me!" Lin Lingsu flipped out a silver gun and aimed it at Zhang Ye. Surprisingly, he did not flinch or evade; the bullet pierced through beneath his shoulder blade while he continued forward with alarming speed, driving the steel blade into Lin Lingsu's chest.
Lin Lingsu felt a sharp pain in her chest, but she knew that the force of the blade had diminished, and since it was only the blunt end of a half-broken sword, it had merely grazed her skin. Although it was not a serious injury, it was the first time since her debut that she had suffered such a humiliating wound, all thanks to the mad dog before her.
Zhang Ye glared fiercely at Lin Lingsu and said, "You heartless bitch, this blade is what I brought back for Wei!"
"Lin, what happened to you?" At that moment, Xu Suwen hurriedly arrived with his disciples. Even though Xu Suwen was usually composed, he couldn't help but be taken aback upon seeing Lin Lingsu. Her face, pale as crystal, was drenched in sweat. Her clothes were soaked in blood, and she looked utterly disheveled.
"Zhang Ye, did you do this?" Xu Suwen glared at Zhang Ye through gritted teeth.
Zhang Ye held his head high, unflinching under Xu Suwen's gaze. "It was me. What are you going to do about it? Let’s see if you have what it takes to take me down."
Xu Suwen snorted coldly and raised his hand. A fire arrow shot into the sky, soaring to a height of seven or eight meters before bursting into a dazzling yellow flower of light. Against the pitch-black night sky, it was a beautiful sight that concealed the deadly intent behind it.
Under the fireworks' glow, silence enveloped the surroundings.
Xu Suwen's demeanor was grave as he spoke in a deep voice, "I invite both of you to leave your lives here today."
Yang Na adjusted his attire and laughed awkwardly. "Uncle Xu, I think there might be some misunderstanding between us..."
Xu Suwen glanced at Yang Na and coldly replied, "You are Master Guicang's disciple?"
Yang Na stepped forward and cupped his hands respectfully. "Cobra Master Yang has met with you before."
Xu Suwen looked up and declared loudly, "It's too late!"
With a wave of his hand, shadows emerged from all directions; it was unclear how many enemies had arrived. They watched the two with predatory eyes.
The atmosphere suddenly fell silent, with only the night wind rustling through the treetops.
Yang Na took a deep breath and said, "If that's the case, I apologize for any offense."
The surroundings were pitch black, and Wu Haozi felt as if he had fallen into an endless abyss, his body continuously plummeting downward.
"Where am I? Where am I? Where am I…"
The darkness spread infinitely, and a piercing shriek echoed in his ears, growing louder with each passing moment. The colder he felt, the deeper everything around him seemed to become.
A faint glimmer of light appeared ahead. Though it was just a small point, dim and weak, it was Wu Haozi's only hope at that moment.
He stared intently at the light.
Time seemed to stretch indefinitely, yet it also felt like it had come to a standstill.
Suddenly, a cold voice pierced through the darkness, emanating from the deepest part of that faint glow, resonating softly in Wu Haozi's ears and heart.
"Give yourself to me. Surrender everything to me…"
"Who are you? Who are you…"
"I am you, and you are me. I've been waiting for you for a long time…"
The voice lingered, echoing through the boundless darkness.
The howling winds wrapped tightly around Wu Haozi; he felt powerless to struggle, as if his entire being were locked in place, unable to muster even the slightest strength.
The voice returned, drifting and uncertain: "I've been inside you for a long time. I'm so thirsty. I want blood. I want human blood…"
"Who are you? What exactly are you…"
In the depths of the light, strange rays flickered in and out like ghostly flames from hell, seeping into his very being. It felt as if nothing existed between the earth and sky. Wu Haozi was exhausted; he gradually began to close his eyes.
"Give yourself to me. Surrender to me, and I will help you save your master."
"Master."
Wu Haozi suddenly opened his eyes wide, radiating brilliance.
In the darkness, that voice seemed to come from afar. Wu Haozi's body trembled, and he finally sank into the endless void.
The howling wind ceased,
The eerie sounds stopped,
And everything in the realm seemed to come to a halt in an instant.
Time passed, though it felt like several centuries had gone by.
Only quietly, quietly.
The ground suddenly erupted from a single point, a beam of white light illuminating everything.
It seemed as if the earth was weeping, welcoming this emerging demon.
"Bang!" A bloodied hand suddenly reached out from the surface of hell.
