"What should we do?" Wu Haozi asked.
Yang Na shrugged her shoulders and said, "You are all professionals in grave robbing. At a time like this, when you need to show your skills, you come to ask me?"
Wu Haozi pondered for a moment and replied, "What do you mean?"
"Exactly what I said. I'll wait here while you dig a tunnel inside, then locate Wei Ning and carry him out from below. After that, we can take him away without anyone noticing. How does that sound?"
Wu Haozi nodded, "That's a good plan. Although I haven't been involved in grave robbing since my master taught me a lesson last time, I've been doing this my whole life. I should still remember the basics. I'll get started... but how can I ensure that the tunnel leads directly beneath my master's Yin House?"
"You don't need to worry about that," Yang Na handed Wu Haozi a compass. "Just follow the direction it points; it will guide you."
"Alright." Without further ado, Wu Haozi took out a flashlight and his Luoyang Shovel along with other grave robbing tools from his backpack. He tested the soil and found the most suitable spot to start digging. Digging a tunnel requires skill; even a slight misjudgment can lead one off course. The air in the tunnel becomes thin, and if one digs too deep without proper ventilation, they could suffocate before making it back to the surface. Wu Haozi had been robbing graves for a lifetime, mostly just opening tombs and retrieving bodies directly. Digging tunnels was indeed a technical task that posed some difficulty for him. Fortunately, Zhang Ye, who came from a family of grave robbers, was there to help correct the tunnel's direction. However, due to Wu Haozi's short stature, the tunnel he dug was too narrow for Zhang Ye to enter. So Zhang Ye decided to let Wu Haozi handle it while he kept watch outside.
True to his profession, Wu Haozi worked swiftly; within three strokes of his shovel, he was nearing Wei Ning's Yin House. However, he noticed that the soil was becoming increasingly compact and felt something was off.
"What’s going on?" Wu Haozi shone his flashlight on the compass and muttered to himself, "It shouldn’t be wrong... It should be right here."
Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he realized that the air in the tunnel was growing thinner by the second. If he didn’t hurry up, he might lose consciousness from lack of oxygen.
Suddenly, with a loud clang, his shovel struck something metallic. With years of experience, Wu Haozi thought to himself, "This is bad," and tried to pull back. But it was too late; there were several loud explosions in succession, and the tunnel collapsed around him, burying him completely.
Though Zhang Ye and Yang Na were far away, the explosion was deafening enough to change their expressions instantly. Without hesitation, Zhang Ye jumped into the tunnel to rescue Wu Haozi, but Yang Na forcibly pulled him back out.
"What the hell are you doing?" Zhang Ye glared at Yang Na, his face dark and his eyes nearly bloodshot.
"It's too late for you to go now. Even if you do, it won't change anything. You'll just be adding another unnecessary death."
"Do you think I'm like you, someone who abandons their friends? No matter what, even if it costs me my life, I will save that rat."
Ignoring Yang Na's warnings, Zhang Ye forcefully broke free from her grasp and jumped down.
"We knew someone would come, so we bought explosives down below. Your friend is already beyond saving; he has died in vain. At least this way, we save on a coffin."
It was Lin Lingsu who spoke. Upon seeing her, Zhang Ye's fists clenched tightly, his hair standing on end, his eyes bulging as he gritted his teeth and spat, "Bitch. You showed up just in time." He grabbed a nearby gun and fired a volley at Lin Lingsu. She quickly rolled away, but Zhang Ye was an amateur; his first time using a gun resulted in him missing Lin Lingsu entirely. The recoil from the weapon nearly numbed his arm. "What the hell is this?" he exclaimed, tossing the gun aside and drawing out a family heirloom knife to swing at Lin Lingsu.
Zhang Ye charged fiercely with all his strength, but despite having just rolled to her feet in a rather ungraceful manner, Lin Lingsu was no stranger to danger. Unfazed by Zhang Ye's reckless aggression, she steadied herself and sidestepped slightly, tripping him with a swift kick that sent him sprawling to the ground.
At that moment, Yang Na casually adjusted her attire and smiled brightly. "Laoshan Snake Charmer Yang Na greets Fairy Lin. It’s been years; you’ve lost quite a bit of weight."
Lin Lingsu coldly regarded Yang Na and replied, "What does this have to do with you? Why are you here?"
"Well, I came to witness Fairy Lin's beauty firsthand and perhaps..."
"Bitch!" Zhang Ye shouted as he took advantage of Yang Na's distraction with Lin Lingsu. Like a fish leaping from water, he sprang up from behind and bit down hard on Lin Lingsu's shoulder. Caught off guard by Zhang Ye's audacity and lack of decorum, Lin Lingsu winced in pain and grabbed his hair tightly before executing a shoulder throw that sent him crashing to the ground several meters away. Blood trickled from the corner of Zhang Ye's mouth as he spat out a piece of flesh and muttered defiantly, "A bitch is still a bitch; all flesh is just as foul."
Lin Lingsu had never experienced such humiliation before; tears welled up in her eyes from the pain as she touched her right shoulder only to find her shirt soaked in blood. The agony rendered her unable to lift her arm.
Yang Na let out a hearty laugh and said, "Forgive me, Fairy, this rough man is just a simpleton who doesn't understand the value of delicate beauty. I have some top-quality medicine here; would you like to give it a try?"
At that moment, Lin Lingsu was filled with deep-seated hatred for Zhang Ye, who had just gotten back on his feet. He glared at Lin Lingsu like a leopard, watching her every move with intense focus, his body brimming with energy, ready to spring into action at any moment.
Yang Na, on the other hand, wore a smile that concealed her true intentions, leaving everyone wondering what she had planned next.
With Yang Na alone, Lin Lingsu found herself at a loss for how to respond. Adding Zhang Ye—who never played by the rules and was fearless—into the mix made it clear that she couldn't handle them both by herself. She cursed her own arrogance for not calling for backup and for being unprepared, which had led her to this precarious situation.
Now, all she could do was stall for time until Uncle Xu arrived with reinforcements to capture both of them in one fell swoop.
