"Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Burn her!"
The disciples of Dragon Tiger Mountain were in an uproar, their eyes betraying a mix of excitement and malice as they awaited the moment when Ding Ying, the female ghost, would turn to ashes under the bright sun.
Ding Ying covered her head with her hands, trembling all over. Her white garments had already fallen away, revealing her snow-white body, but in the sunlight, some areas were beginning to darken. The stench of burning flesh was unbearable.
Lin Lingsu wore a complex expression, lost in thought.
"Lin Lingsu, there’s a principle of justice—those who owe debts must repay them. Didn’t you promise me you would spare her? How can you be so cruel and go back on your word? Is this the style of you righteous disciples?" Wei Ning struggled desperately, trying to break free from his bindings to save Ding Ying. However, the ropes made from cow tendons tightened with every attempt he made.
"Ah!" Wei Ning suddenly shouted with all his might. With a loud "bang," the ropes were miraculously torn apart. Lin Lingsu and Ning Suwen both wore expressions of disbelief.
"This is bad!"
In truth, Ning Suwen had been showing off among the disciples and had feared that adding more restrictions would make Wei Ning seem formidable. He had only used one cow tendon to bind Wei Ning; if it had been a rope made from a thousand-year-old dragon tendon with several restrictions placed upon it, even Wei Ning would have found it impossible to escape.
Before anyone could react, Wei Ning charged forward and embraced Ding Ying tightly. At that moment, Ding Ying's previously cold body felt as if it had been scorched by fire; her once smooth skin was now covered in countless blisters. Moreover, her temperature continued to rise.
Wei Ning looked at the beautiful figure in his arms with pain in his heart. He fashioned his hand into a sunshade to shield Ding Ying from the sun. As she slowly regained consciousness and realized she was lying in Wei Ning's embrace, she mustered all her strength to smile weakly and said, "I knew my husband would come to save me." With that, she fainted in Wei Ning's arms.
A sharp pain shot through Wei Ning's chest.
At that moment, Zhang Suting appeared behind Wei Ning like a ghost, silently delivering a strike from behind.
With one hand supporting Ding Ying and the other shielding her from the sun, Wei Ning had no way to defend himself and could only endure Zhang Suting's palm strike.
A mouthful of fresh blood erupted from him, staining the front of Ding Ying's garments.
"Ning Suwen" quickly commanded, "Form the Chaotic Maze Formation! We must capture this thief and this female ghost."
The Four Symbols and Four Absolutes Formation, the Chaotic Maze Formation, the Seven Stars Killing Formation, and the Qiankun Reversal Formation were the four treasured formations of the Dragon-Tiger Lineage. For centuries, countless heroes had met their demise under these formations. Five elders led by "Zhang Suting" stepped forward, each accompanied by several disciples. Taking advantage of "Wei Ning" holding onto "Ding Ying," they surrounded "Wei Ning" in the center.
Everyone formed hand seals; with their left hands, they flipped over a blue-and-white bowl in front of their chests while their right hands performed a sword gesture to conjure a spell in mid-air. They proclaimed loudly, "With one finger, the gate moves; with two fingers, the Underworld opens. Disciples practice their divine skills to summon the Ancestor." Then, just like when they set up the Seven Stars Killing Formation last time, they drank all the divine water from the bowl.
The Zhengyi Sect, also known as the Zhengyi School, was founded during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and had a history spanning over a thousand years. Their talisman-making skills were unparalleled among all Taoist sects. Thus, while their actions seemed akin to those of the late Qing Dynasty's Boxers engaging in supernatural antics, there was profound mystery behind them. Once consumed, this divine punch and talisman could suddenly unleash potential and significantly enhance combat power for a short period.
The Chaotic Maze Formation was also known as the Ten Thousand Year Tomb. It was said that deep within Taibai Mountain lay an uninhabited area filled with countless ancient tombs over a thousand years old, covering more than thirty miles. The terrain was steep and treacherous, with deep ancient caves. During the day, heavy fog enveloped it; at night, ghostly fires flickered, earning it the name of the Underworld on Earth. The predecessors of Zhengyi used this place to evolve into the Chaotic Maze Formation based on its yin-yang changes. Once mortals entered this formation, they would lose their sense of direction; if one person spoke out, it would echo like thunder from all directions, sending chills down one's spine.
"Wei Ning" felt as if everything around her was in chaos; it sounded like ten thousand beasts roaring simultaneously, disturbing her mind. With "Ding Ying's" body temperature rising and her weapon taken away, she found herself defenseless and unable to escape this strange formation.
"Wei Ning" laughed—a sound that carried an indescribable desolation, striking at "Lin Lingsu's" heart like a knife.
"You call yourselves righteous but have no shame in using your entire sect's power to force a weak woman into a corner. If I die here today, so be it. But if I survive, I will slaughter everyone from your Dragon-Tiger Mountain—leaving not a single chicken or dog alive!"
Upon hearing this, "Ning Suwen" urgently ordered, "Disciples! Execute this traitor immediately!"
"Understood!" Countless Seven Star Swords surged toward "Wei Ning." She pressed "Ding Ying" down beneath her body to shield against the incoming swords. Five long swords plunged brutally into her back.
"Ah!" "Wei Ning" let out a long howl as she glared at the five disciples. Slowly releasing "Ding Ying" onto the ground, she took one step after another forward, blood dripping drop by drop onto the earth beneath her feet.
The disciples had not expected "Wei Ning" to be so fierce that they forgot to take advantage of this moment to claim her life.
In that fleeting instant, it was already too late—too late indeed.
Wei Ning suddenly exuded a fierce aura, as if he had absorbed the very essence of the killing atmosphere around him. With his hands forming the Great Thunderfire Seal and his feet stepping on the Seven Stars, he took seven strides, directing the Ziweijian towards Horan.
"Five Thunder Palm!"
"Thunderous Radiance, Thunderbolt Strike! With divine might unleashed, I shall eradicate the Evil Spirit!"
Lightning, landmines, water mines, demon lightning, and combat thunder erupted simultaneously. In an instant, dark clouds rolled in from the sky, and the winds shifted ominously. A tremendous roar echoed from the ground like a mythical beast, and a beam of golden light suddenly descended upon Wei Ning. An immense and invisible shockwave radiated from him, expanding outward and shattering the Chaotic Maze Formation with overwhelming force.
As the smoke and clouds dissipated, Wei Ning stood there holding Ding Ying, resembling a deity. He spat out a mouthful of blood and laughed, "What a ridiculous formation; it's nothing but this."
The entire mountain of gold shattered like a fallen jade pillar.
At the same time Wei Ning unleashed the Five Thunder Palm, Lin Lingsu, having learned from past experiences, conjured the Golden Armored Deity and used the Nine Dragon Shield to protect herself and Ning Suwen. However, the disciples who had set up the formation suffered greatly; all second-generation disciples were struck dead by lightning. Zhang Suting, due to her profound cultivation, managed to survive with only internal injuries, though her beard was completely singed off, leaving her in a disheveled state. The other elders also coughed up blood from their severe injuries.
Ning Suwen's face turned pale as she looked at Wei Ning lying unconscious in a pool of blood. The Five Thunder Palm had obliterated half of Dragon Tiger Mountain's elite forces, shattering her plans for unifying Taoism. At this moment, even if she were to flay Wei Ning alive, it would hardly quell her rage.
"Someone! Bind this brat up 'properly'!" Ning Suwen gritted her teeth.
Suddenly, a sharp sound of a bamboo flute pierced through the air; it was the distress signal from Dragon Tiger Mountain during an attack. Ning Suwen couldn't help but furrow her brow—who could be causing trouble at such a critical moment?
