Wei Ning's heart had been restless these past few days. After finishing his work at Zhang Ye's house, it was already quite late, and the long street was deserted. Only a girl in white stood gracefully not far away, like a figure carved from snow.
With his current eyesight, even on a night so dark that he could barely see his own hand, Wei Ning could make out details from dozens of meters away. When he saw her, his gaze froze, and he found it hard to look away.
Lin Lingsu.
What was she doing here?
Wei Ning knew that her appearance was undoubtedly for him. Realizing there was no way to avoid her, he had no choice but to approach. He had imagined countless times what it would be like to see Lin Lingsu again, yet somehow, he found himself wishing never to see her again.
In this meeting, were they enemies or friends? Wei Ning didn't dare to ask himself.
Lin Lingsu glanced at Wei Ning with her clear, cold eyes and said softly, "In this meeting, we are already foes. I hope you share the same realization."
At that moment, the moonlight shone down.
The moonlight was hazy, like a dream from the night before, stirred by the wind that brushed against the window curtains.
But whether it had stirred the hearts of these two young people entangled in love and hate remained uncertain.
Wei Ning forced a bitter smile. The very thing he feared most had come to pass. At this moment, despite having countless unspoken words in his throat, they all transformed into one bitter statement: "I know you still want my Undying Bone."
Lin Lingsu did not look at Wei Ning and coldly replied, "There is no way to avoid this."
Just then, a gust of night wind blew by, causing their clothes to rustle. The long street that had been bustling with voices during the day now felt eerily quiet. Perhaps this tranquil night was set for them alone; suddenly, Wei Ning laughed and looked at Lin Lingsu with a glimmer in his eyes. "Then let it come."
As soon as Wei Ning's words fell, shadows flickered in the darkness of the street. The once silent night turned strange and ominous. At that moment, Lin Lingsu raised her right hand, and a silver gun appeared in her grasp, aimed directly at Wei Ning.
"Come with me," Lin Lingsu said suddenly, her expression darkening slightly as her tone carried a hint of pleading.
Around them, the shadows moved faster and faster. It turned out these shadows were all people, layered upon each other and hidden in the darkness—figures painted entirely black as if they were part of the night itself.
In front of him, behind him, to the left and right—even on the rooftops—there were figures cloaked in black. Wei Ning realized he was trapped like a fish in a barrel; perhaps he should have burrowed into the ground, but maybe even underground there were ambushers waiting.
To capture Wei Ning alive, Dragon Tiger Mountain—no, Lin Lingsu—was truly putting in great effort.
Wei Ning let out a long sigh, just as Lin Lingsu had said, "There is no way to avoid it."
He had nowhere to run; he could only fight.
At that moment, a figure in black on the rooftop locked his gaze onto Wei Ning and said menacingly, "Wei Ning, if you know what's good for you, surrender quickly."
"Chairman, the Transcendent Truth, Tranquil Spirit, True Response, and Marvelous Altar have all been set up. Please proceed to the altar to perform the ritual."
"Understood." Ning Suwen nodded slightly. He had already completed his cleansing ritual and pushed open the door to step onto the Altar.
On the Altar, disciples had prepared incense, wax paper, and other offerings for him. There was a Bagua Mirror and a Seven Star Lamp, which contained seven wicks.
Ning Suwen adjusted his robe, facing south as he arranged the offerings and lit the Seven Star Lamp on the altar. The mirror was placed on the platform, facing southward.
At that moment, a disciple handed a Red Rooster to Ning Suwen. He twisted off the chicken's head and dripped three drops of blood from its comb onto the mirror. To his surprise, an image appeared on the mirror's surface: Wei Ning surrounded by Lin Lingsu and others. Seeing this, Ning Suwen smiled faintly and waved his Apricot Yellow Banner. He declared loudly, "Zhenwu General, Xuan Zi Shang Zun, treading upon Turtle-Snake General, with the precious sword revealing the Seven Stars. The black flag spreads across sun and moon; leading millions of soldiers, even immortals and Buddhas bow in respect while evil spirits turn to dust. If anyone recites the Mystical Incantation, the Eight Great Vajras will follow. Those above will stir; those below will tremble. If any evil spirit dares to resist, my sword shall strike without leaving a trace. I serve Supreme Lao Jun; I command this urgently as per the law."
This was indeed the Mystical Incantation, and Ning Suwen's formation was one of the legendary deadly formations passed down from Dragon Tiger Mountain: the Xuan Hook Soul Formation.
Because Ning Suwen had ordered that Wei Ning must be captured alive and fearing that firearms would cause too much disturbance to the public, aside from Lin Lingsu, all other disciples were equipped with Seven Star Swords. Li Xin waved his hands, and over ten Seven Star Swords locked onto Wei Ning from afar. Before Lin Lingsu could give an order, Li Xin had already leaped down from the eaves to directly engage Wei Ning.
Wei Ning had once displayed great power in Ghost Valley—a sight Li Xin had witnessed firsthand. Moreover, if they did not resolve this quickly and someone like Wang Tuozi appeared now, all their efforts at Dragon Tiger Mountain would be in vain; a swift resolution was indeed their best strategy.
Seeing their vice-captain take initiative, the other disciples could no longer hold back.
Only Lin Lingsu and Wei Ning remained still.
Wei Ning looked up and suddenly drew his Peach Wood Sword from behind his Red Umbrella, pointing it just in time to meet Li Xin's Seven Star Sword.
Wei Ning's eyes glowed with a golden hue while one remained pitch black as he locked onto Li Xin. Strangely enough, Li Xin felt somewhat intimidated under Wei Ning's gaze; his momentum weakened slightly.
Clang! The sound of metal clashing echoed through the night sky.
Li Xin had originally charged down with great force and an advantage in strength. Although Wei Ning seemed weak at first glance, after their clash, he stood firmly rooted to the ground as if he were anchored there while Li Xin rolled away to dissipate some of the impact.
It seemed that after a long period without fighting, Wei Ning had improved considerably.
Strangely enough, despite the commotion, it seemed that all the residents had made prior arrangements; not a single person stepped outside. It appeared that the preparations at Dragon Tiger Mountain had been meticulously executed, utilizing their influence in the government to seal off this long street in advance.
However, there was one exception: Zhang Ye.
After sending Wei Ning away, Zhang Ye had clearly heard the noise coming from the long street. Seeing Wei Ning surrounded by people, he wasted no time and grabbed a kitchen knife from inside his house, standing shoulder to shoulder with Wei Ning.
Wei Ning's fierce gaze scanned the Dragon Tiger disciples. Anyone who met his eyes felt as if they had been pricked by needles, an uncomfortable sensation washing over them.
Wei Ning frowned and said, "Brother Zhang, this is my problem; you shouldn't get involved."
"Do you still consider me a brother? If I don't step up now, am I even human?"
Wei Ning looked deeply at Zhang Ye. For the first time, he felt the warmth of brotherhood from someone. The heart that had been frozen by Lin Lingsu began to thaw slowly.
Zhang Ye swung the kitchen knife and growled, "Even if I lose my head and bear a scar the size of a bowl, eighteen years later, I’ll still be a good man. But brotherhood only exists in this life; Wei, I’m entrusting my life to you as your brother. If it comes down to it, I'll face danger with you."
"Right." Influenced by Zhang Ye's fierce spirit, Wei Ning felt a surge of courage. He opened his Red Umbrella and brandished his Peach Wood Sword towards the Dragon Lake disciples, shouting loudly, "If you want my life, you'll have to take a few of yours first!"
Suddenly, a woman fell out from inside the umbrella.
