In the quiet and silent villa, only the sound of the cold wind rustling through the trees remained.
As Chu Donglin stepped onto the clean asphalt path, a sharp pain began to throb in his forehead, as if something pointed was continuously pricking at his brow.
He rubbed his forehead and walked step by step toward the square. On either side of the road, various sharp objects floated up as he passed, trailing behind him.
Fragments of stone, rusty metal scraps, discarded handmade knives, broken Rebar... countless Dodo items hovered in the air, densely packed like a swarm of bombs ready to drop at any moment, quietly following Chu Donglin's footsteps.
Carrying these myriad sharp objects, Chu Donglin finally climbed up the slope and reached the edge of the square.
His brow furrowed even tighter.
For this square, usually bustling with people, was now eerily empty, devoid of any signs of life. Only the fountain's spout hissed as it gushed forth water.
Chu Donglin remained silent for several seconds before walking directly toward the stairs at the back of the square.
After climbing the stairs, he could reach a platform where stood the tallest building in the entire villa—also the residence of Liushan Shu.
However, when he reached the front of the Fountain, his steps came to a halt.
In the fountain floated three corpses.
The bodies, swollen and pale from being submerged in the water, still bore faint traces of terror on their faces, as if they had witnessed unimaginable torment before their deaths.
With a splash—
The sound of water erupted as the three corpses suddenly lifted into the air, hovering in a row before Chu Donglin.
After observing them closely for several seconds with a furrowed brow, Chu Donglin discerned the cause of their deaths.
Suffocation...
These three human Survivors were clearly drowned.
Their grotesque faces were swollen and pale from being submerged. Their eyes bulged, seemingly on the verge of popping out.
The darkened, pale cheeks, having been soaked for too long, no longer bore the color of living flesh. Their twisted, ghastly features resembled those of a vengeful spirit from legends, sending shivers down one's spine.
As he quietly observed the three corpses, Chu Donglin's brow furrowed tighter.
He recognized the clothing worn by these bodies. It belonged to the Search Team dispatched by that human named Ark from the Survivor Base. The uniforms resembled military attire but were slightly darker in tone.
Moreover, he could see the handguns strapped to their waists and the bullets hanging from their bodies.
These items were not something that Liushan Shu's camp could equip; he wondered what kind of Holy leader at Ark Base managed to acquire such military supplies.
Yet, no matter how powerful the weaponry, it could not save these three individuals now.
From the marks on their bodies, it was evident they hadn't even attempted to fight back before being drowned in this pool.
However, this pool...
With a wave of his right hand, Chu Donglin summoned the clear water from the pool, causing it to rise and form a sphere in mid-air.
Once all the water was removed, the full view of the pool appeared before Chu Donglin.
It was a shallow pool, with a depth of only about one meter and twenty centimeters. No matter how one looked at it, it seemed impossible for three fully grown individuals to drown in such shallow water.
Yet the fact remained: these three human Survivors had indeed perished in this pool.
Chu Donglin rubbed his forehead and set down the three corpses, allowing the massive water sphere hovering in the air to fall back into the pool.
His mind was filled with confusion; he could not fathom how these three living people had drowned in the pool.
He took a few more steps forward and began to catch a faint scent of blood in the air.
As a Zombie, he was particularly sensitive to the smell of fresh blood and flesh.
Standing in the square, Chu Donglin hesitated for a moment but ultimately followed the scent of blood.
A strange sense of vigilance welled up within him; this eerie mansion made him uneasy. The number of Humvees parked at the entrance should have been enough to carry thirty or forty people, yet three had inexplicably died here, and he could not find any sign of the others. This left Chu Donglin filled with astonishment.
He turned a corner and entered a building.
At the staircase, he saw three mutilated corpses sprawled on the ground, thick blood splattered across the corridor.
The bodies, missing limbs, bore clear bite marks from sharp teeth. These bite marks were unlike those made by human teeth; the creature that had torn into these bodies had sharper and more pointed fangs.
Chu Donglin crouched down and noticed that, aside from their missing limbs, even the internal organs within the abdominal cavities had vanished, clearly consumed.
The empty torsos remained in the corridor, their faces frozen in horrific fear, as if they had encountered an unimaginable monster in their final moments.
The terror emanating from their very souls mirrored that of the two individuals inside the Humvee parked at the mansion's entrance; their faces were twisted beyond recognition, sending chills down one's spine at just a glance.
This situation was entirely unexpected for Chu Donglin.
After carefully examining the condition of these three corpses, he exited the building and caught a stronger whiff of blood.
He then temporarily abandoned his plan to search for Liushan Shu and began looking around inside the mansion instead.
He found more bodies.
On the road to the villa, in the corners of the building, in the hallways of the house, and within the thickets of tangled branches… he discovered the presence of corpses in numerous places.
The bodies were all dressed in the same dark uniforms, clearly belonging to members of Ark Base.
Surrounding their corpses were fallen firearms and other weapons.
The state of death was mostly horrific, as if they had been gnawed upon by monsters. Their faces still bore twisted and hideous expressions of terror, as if they had encountered some horrifying creature in their final moments.
Most importantly, these bodies were all found in groups of three, having died together at various locations within the villa. It seemed they had been divided into teams to search for something within the villa before meeting such a tragic fate, all perishing inside.
The smell of blood in the air gradually grew stronger.
Meanwhile, Chu Donglin's forehead began to ache more intensely.
His hand could hardly leave his brow as he walked, rubbing his forehead repeatedly.
Then he arrived at Lotus Garden on the side of the villa and discovered a new situation. (To be continued...)
