"I ask you all, who has seen Chen Shu?" 0

Wu looked coldly at the group before him, his gaze far from friendly. 0

He instinctively tightened his grip on the gun in his hand, the barrel slightly aimed at these people. If anyone made a move, they would face his attack in an instant. 0

However, the group glanced around, and no one showed any signs of unusual behavior. 0

"I haven't seen that fellow either. Honestly, he disappeared mysteriously, and I'm puzzled by it." 0

"Do you think he might have been taken away by some monster like Li Ming and the others? Everyone seems to have vanished without a trace..." 0

As the group continued to look around, Wu stared at them coldly. After a moment of thought, he asked, "Who was Chen Shu with before he left?" 0

"Uh... I can't remember. Anyway, it wasn't me." 0

"Not me either. I was with Zhao Bo; I didn't see Chen Shu." 0

"Not me." 0

Amidst the noisy defenses of the group, Wu took a deep breath and stepped back. 0

"Jingzi and Old Yi, come over here. Everyone else, spread out according to the teams we divided earlier. We split into twelve teams; since Chen Shu is missing, one team must be short. Everyone spread out according to your previous teams. The team that is short will be where Chen Shu is." 0

Jingzi and Old Yi were two companions who had been in Wu's team before. Once they stood behind him, the others in the square gradually gathered with their previous teammates. 0

Then... 0

"What’s going on?" 0

"What the hell is going on? Wasn't Chen Shu supposed to be missing? Why is there still no one missing?" 0

A group of people stared in disbelief at the twelve teams scattered across the square. 0

Each team was fully staffed. There was not a single person absent. This realization left everyone dumbfounded, and a chilling sense of dread began to creep in. 0

There should have been one less person in the ranks, yet the numbers remained unchanged, enough to make everyone sense something was amiss. 0

They tightened their grips on their weapons, instinctively wary of everyone around them, on guard against their very presence. 0

Observing the tense atmosphere, Wu fell silent for a few seconds before suddenly shouting out. 0

"What are you panicking for? With so many people here, why fear just one? Everyone stand still and count the people around you. If you spot a stranger, point them out. No one is allowed to move!" 0

At Wu's commanding shout, the group immediately began to identify each other. They scrutinized those nearby to see if anyone looked unfamiliar or if they recognized each other. 0

However, the results of their counting were still bizarre. 0

There were thirty-six people in total, all of whom knew each other, aware of each other's names and identities. They were all comrades who had come out together from the base; there was neither an extra nor a missing person. 0

Wu's expression darkened. 0

This phenomenon caught him completely off guard. 0

Even an Iron-Blooded Warrior who had crawled out from the Corpse Mountain of blood and death could not help but feel a chill in the face of such an eerie situation. 0

The others were equally at a loss. They stared at their companions in shock, unable to find that extra stranger. Yet Chen Shu's disappearance was a tangible fact, and this strange situation even caused some of the braver ones to tremble. 0

"Captain... do you think we might have run into a ghost?" 0

"Captain, what's going on?" 0

Wu shot a cold glance at the trembling group, snorting in disdain. 0

"Stand up straight! What kind of behavior is this? Just because the situation is a bit strange? What are you afraid of? You're all grown-ups, not children. What ghosts are you scared of? If there are ghosts, go find a few and show them to me!" 0

With that, Wu drew a dagger from his waist and made a shallow cut across the back of his hand. 0

"Everyone do the same, leave a mark on your hand. Later..." 0

Before Wu could finish his sentence, a piercing scream for help echoed from deep within the villa. The high-pitched wail seemed to tear through the air, almost as if it was very close. 0

"Ahhh! Help! Help! Ahhh! Help me!" 0

The chilling scream was filled with indescribable horror, as if the person crying out was enduring unimaginable pain. 0

The group in the square exchanged glances, and in an instant, all eyes turned to Wu, their captain, waiting for his decision. 0

Wu hesitated for a few seconds, gritted his teeth, tightened his grip on his gun, and charged toward the source of the screams. 0

"It's Chen Shu's voice! We need to save him!" 0

With that, the group rushed out of the square, following Wu toward the direction of the cries. 0

... 0

The cold wind blew from all directions, causing the wild grass along the street to sway restlessly. 0

Leaves, fallen from an unknown place, danced in the cold wind, sweeping across the street. Low growls echoed from all directions, as if the terrifying monsters from a nightmare had finally manifested in reality, extending their grotesque claws toward the white-haired man in the center of the street. 0

Their twisted forms were grotesque and hard for ordinary people to accept, filled with an aura of evil. 0

The air was thick with a chilling and dark malevolence that sent shivers down one's spine. Even the unmatched power of the White Wolf felt a twinge of unease in the presence of these bizarre creatures. 0

It paced restlessly, its front paws lightly scraping against the pavement, uncertainty flickering in its blood-red eyes. 0

Before it and Chu Donglin stood monsters unlike any they had ever encountered. 0

Their bodies were a dull greenish hue, with white underbellies. Most of their skin was smooth and shiny, but they had scaled ridges along their backs. They bore vague humanoid features, yet their heads resembled fish, with enormous, bulging eyes that never seemed to close. 0

On either side of their necks were constantly quivering gills, and their long limbs were webbed. They jumped forward in a chaotic manner—some using only their hind legs while others moved on all fours. Their hoarse, sharp vocalizations filled the air, conveying dark emotions that their faces could not express. 0

This aura was enough to unsettle even high-level Zombies. 0

These were strange creatures never before seen; they bore no characteristics of Zombies whatsoever. Neither Chu Donglin nor the White Wolf could detect any viral scent emanating from them. 0

They were a group of evil and unfamiliar monsters, approaching with ill intent, surrounding Chu Donglin and the White Wolf from all sides. Their throaty growls echoed eerily, as if mocking these two Zombies for inadvertently trespassing into their hunting grounds. (To be continued...) 0
