The Bay Area, before the apocalypse arrived, was a semi-suburban emerging development zone, sparsely populated and with air quality much better than that of the city.
Additionally, its convenient transportation made it only a ten-minute drive from the city center, which led to many villas and upscale residential areas being built here.
Unlike the sparsely populated North District, although the population here was not dense, it was still sufficient. When Chu Donglin and Liu Xiner rode White Wolf around from North Ring Road to this area, less than half an hour had passed.
Such speed was rarely achievable even before the apocalypse.
In the urban area, speeding like that would be tantamount to seeking death, as tragic accidents could happen at any moment.
After the apocalypse began, there were no vehicles on the roads anymore, and traffic police would not come to stop anyone. However, the roads were littered with various debris and broken-down cars, making it impossible for vehicles to pass.
On the streets of the apocalypse, most human transportation methods had become incapacitated except for bicycles or motorcycles… Of course, if someone could drive a tank over, that would be another story.
However, as a powerful Second-Stage Zombie named Baymax by Chu Donglin, White Wolf had no concerns about human transportation methods.
Speeding like the wind was its passive skill, and Running up Walls was its specialty; as long as it wanted to, it could even run directly along the outer walls of buildings.
The abandoned cars and debris left behind by people fleeing were things White Wolf could easily ignore.
Carrying Chu Donglin and Liu Xiner on its back, White Wolf sprinted fiercely. In less than an hour’s time, they raced from North District to the Bay Area.
This was still due to Chu Donglin occasionally needing to give it directions and call for turns; otherwise, at White Wolf's speed, they could have covered the roughly twenty kilometers in just over ten minutes.
During this wild dash, Chu Donglin also noticed the differences between these beast-like Mutated Zombies and human Zombies.
Strictly speaking, White Wolf was not a true agile Zombie; it belonged to the speed-type Powerful Zombies. With its increased size and weight after mutation, it could barely be considered a half-strength type Zombie.
However, when it comes to speed, the agile Zombie known as Snow can leave the White Wolf behind in a short amount of time, making it impossible for the White Wolf to catch up with her.
But in terms of endurance, Snow's agility as a Zombie falls short compared to the White Wolf.
At her fastest, Snow can reach a limit speed of about two hundred yards, but this extreme speed puts a tremendous strain on her body, and she can only maintain it for less than a minute at most.
Under normal circumstances, Snow's sustainable maximum speed is around one hundred yards.
The non-agile Zombie, the White Wolf, has a speed similar to Snow's. Although during their battles, Chu Donglin estimates that Snow could take down the White Wolf within three minutes. However, as a mount, the White Wolf is still quite competent.
As the White Wolf entered the Bay Area, Chu Donglin began to command it to slow down.
The density of Zombies here is much higher than in the North District. While it is still far from the overwhelming hordes of Zombies seen in the City Center District, there are still enough of them.
As Chu Donglin traveled through the area, he started looking for signs of human Survivor activity.
Those signs might be beyond the comprehension of the Zombies' dull intelligence, but even a slightly experienced human could quickly spot them.
Moreover, Chu Donglin was also on the lookout for potential attacks from so-called Ability users and Second-Stage Zombies.
After encountering Li Zheng and the two Twin Girls—three Ability users—Chu Donglin no longer underestimated the hidden powers among humans.
It seemed that while most humans were overwhelmed by this sudden Zombie crisis, suffering losses and devastation, there were still some fortunate individuals who had benefited from it.
Chu Donglin was certain that Li Zheng and his companions had not acquired their superpowers beforehand because he discovered that he could sense these human Ability users... that feeling was similar to how he sensed Mutated Zombies with super abilities.
It could even be identical.
Clearly, the reason these individuals gained superpowers was the same as the sudden mutation of humans into Zombies.
This discovery led Chu Donglin to ponder the origins of the virus that abruptly transformed humans into Zombies.
However, the information he possessed was far too limited; he couldn't delve deeper or make any predictions. After contemplating for a while, he ultimately decided to set it aside for the time being.
Soon, Liu Family Villa appeared ahead.
As White Wolf walked down the secluded path and approached the villa's entrance, Chu Donglin furrowed his brow and quickly gestured for White Wolf to stop.
"Brother-in-law? Is something wrong?"
Liu Xiner noticed the change in Chu Donglin's expression and instinctively asked.
Chu Donglin tilted his head and sensed for a long moment before frowning and saying, "It seems... there might be someone inside the villa..."
Earlier, when he got closer to the villa, he had felt a faint wave of Mental Power emanating from within.
But that wave was so subtle that it was nearly imperceptible, and it vanished quickly. Chu Donglin couldn't be sure if he had merely imagined it.
After pondering for several seconds, he picked up Liu Xiner and jumped down from White Wolf's back.
"There might be someone in the villa; let's be cautious."
He turned around and commanded the White Wolf behind him to shrink its form.
Chu Donglin's words made Liu Xiner reveal a surprised smile. "Is there someone in the villa? Could it be that Dad is really still at Home?"
Chu Donglin shook his head, dispelling the girl's fantasies.
"First of all, your villa is located in a relatively remote area, far from crowds. As long as Liushan Shu hasn't directly turned into a Zombie, with his intelligence and abilities, he would definitely be able to escape from here at the first opportunity."
"Moreover, your father has worked hard in the business world for most of his life, and his judgment of situations far exceeds that of ordinary people. He wouldn't be like most Survivors, foolishly seeking help at places like the police station. When phones are down and television programs are in chaos, he would certainly be able to assess the current Apocalyptic Crisis immediately."
"In this situation, it would be impossible for him to stay in this villa near the city waiting for Zombies to come and eat him. He would definitely take food and weapons that he could gather and flee towards the sparsely populated suburbs, planning to explore the city situation slowly once things settled down."
"So, the superpowered individual inside the villa is most likely not your father but rather someone else passing through."
After analyzing this, Chu Donglin took the girl's hand and walked toward the entrance.
The once massive White Wolf, now shrunk in size, appeared more like a pure white wolf dog following Chu Donglin closely.
Pushing open the violently damaged iron gate of the villa, Chu Donglin led Liu Xiner into the courtyard, just in time to see two men walking out from inside the villa.
From a distance of over ten meters, the four of them stared at each other in shock. The two men had not expected to suddenly encounter Survivors, leaving them momentarily stunned.
"Uh... who are you?"
The two Survivors looked at Chu Donglin and Liu Xiner standing at the entrance, along with the imposing white wolf dog behind them, bewildered. "What are you doing here?"
Chu Donglin squinted at the two young men and spoke up.
"Are you sent by Liushan Shu?"
The two young men were genuinely startled by this.
"How did you know?"
One of them exclaimed in shock, while the other remained more composed and directly asked, "Do you know Mr. Liu?"
Chu Donglin sized up the two relatively young men without answering their question. Instead, he continued, "You work for Yuan Yang Building Materials, right? Where is Liushan Shu now?"
The two men called Liushan Shu and Mr. Liu were likely former employees under Liushan Shu.
The nearest property of the Liu Family was a Yuan Yang Building Materials Company not far from there, which is why Chu Donglin asked directly.
At this point, the two young men were completely convinced that Chu Donglin was indeed an acquaintance of Liushan Shu.
"Sir, do you have business with Mr. Liu?"
Chu Donglin took a step back and pushed Liu Xiner forward. "I don't have any business with him, but this lady, Liu Xiner, you must have heard of her name, right?"
"Liu Xiner?"
The two young men were taken aback and showed expressions of surprise. "Mr. Liu's daughter?"
The two of them quickly leaned in, carefully examining Liu Xiner's face, revealing a look of realization. "It really is Sister Liu Xiner; she looks exactly like in Mr. Liu's photo."
Another young man scratched his head with a hint of joy, smiling somewhat foolishly.
"It really is Sister Liu Xiner! This is our big break. Mr. Liu said that whoever finds Sister Liu Xiner will be rewarded with a big bag of chocolates... Haha... Zhou Jing, how are we going to split this?"
A companion named Zhou Jing cleared his throat and elbowed his outspoken friend heavily, awkwardly smiling at Chu Donglin and the others.
"My friend can be a bit clueless sometimes, but he's actually a good person. Please don't mind him."
Chu Donglin chuckled and extended his right hand. "My surname is Chu. May I ask for your names?"
Zhou Jing quickly reached out to shake Chu Donglin's hand, smiling nervously. "I'm Zhou Jing. I used to work under Mr. Liu... I guess that counts? Yuan Yang Building Materials seems to be just an outer industry of the Liu Family, but now we're in the same camp as Mr. Liu. Thanks to him, we're doing much better than the other two camps."
"Oh? So there’s more than one Survivor camp around here?"
This revelation surprised Chu Donglin. He then extended his right hand towards the young man next to Zhou Jing. "Is this gentleman with you as well?"
The young man smiled awkwardly and quickly shook Chu Donglin's hand when he saw it extended.
"I'm Chen Xu, just eighteen this year. Mr. Chu, you can call me A Xu or Chen." (To be continued...)
