In the darkness, the girl slowly opened her eyes. 0

Within her blood-red eyes, a strange crimson light flickered and vanished. 0

Then, she sat up. 0

The sheets slipped down to her waist as she moved, and the girl stared blankly at her hands. The pale skin bore the unique curse of a Zombie. 0

Her nails, once sharp and menacing, had been dulled by Chu Donglin to prevent her from accidentally harming herself in daily life. 0

Now, these hands were delicate and beautiful, like the finest piece of art. If not for the ghastly pallor devoid of any color, one would never associate these hands with a corpse. 0

Dim moonlight filtered into the room, and confusion filled the girl's eyes. 0

It seemed she had witnessed something incomprehensible, staring at her hands in a daze, lost in thought. 0

"Snow Sister, what happened?" 0

In a sleepy voice, she clung tightly to Snow's waist, burying her head in her embrace, mumbling drowsily, "Is Dad back? Or what happened?" 0

The girl glanced down at her and shook her head. "He hasn't come back..." 0

After a moment's thought, she answered another question from the girl. "I had a dream... a very strange dream." 0

With that, she gently gathered her hands and held the girl even tighter. 0

"I didn't like it... it felt really uncomfortable, so I didn't like it..." 0

"Did you have a nightmare, Snow Sister?" 0

"Nightmare... is it?" 0

The girl stared blankly at the moonlight outside, her gaze still dazed and confused. "I don't know... but it doesn't seem like a dream; it feels like something... more important. It's very significant to me... but I don't understand, I don't understand what those things really mean." 0

With that, she lowered her eyes sadly and murmured, "If only he were here... if it were him, he would definitely be able to tell me what this is..." 0

... 0

... 0

In the morning, a thin layer of mist began to dissipate in the dawn light. 0

The staggering Zombies wandered hesitantly down the street, but their swaying figures appeared exceedingly sparse on the empty road. 0

In a city where no sounds emerged, it felt desolate like a ghost town. 0

This was the area of Wocheng in North City, and it was now six o'clock in the early morning, marking the second hour since Chu Donglin and the girl set off. 0

However, even Chu Donglin, who feared nothing in the face of High-Level Zombies, found himself in a predicament. 0

As he left the temporary residence with the girl and continued toward their destination, he realized he couldn't find any food. 0

Not food for Zombies, but food for Liu Xiner, the girl who was still human. 0

The empty streets were devoid of life; there were hardly any abandoned cars left behind, unlike the City Center District where they were everywhere. 0

There were no living people and certainly no food. 0

Most of the shops lining the streets had their roller shutters closed, belonging to newly constructed buildings that had yet to be occupied by any businesses. 0

Occasionally, they could see one or two shops open, but inside, aside from Zombies, there was nothing edible for the living. 0

After much effort, the two finally found another supermarket nearby, but the shelves inside had long been emptied by others. 0

The interior was desolate, with only a few dusty scraps of paper scattered on the floor. 0

As for the food and drinking water that had originally been on the shelves, they had vanished without a trace. 0

The food they carried with them was limited, and after their journey, they had reached a point where they desperately needed to replenish their supplies. 0

However, the harsh reality left them feeling utterly helpless. 0

“Brother-in-law, let’s keep moving. The food around here must have all been taken. It would be a waste of time to search any longer. There should be food once we leave this area,” suggested the girl as they stood at the empty crossroads. 0

Chu Donglin pondered silently for a long time before nodding in agreement. 0

“There should be a human Survivor Base nearby; they must have collected all the food. After all, there are fewer Zombies here, making it safe to hide out. Plus, it’s close to the city center. If any Survivors escaped from downtown, fleeing here would be a wise choice.” 0

Chu Donglin's judgment was soon confirmed. 0

The desolate autumn wind blew through, carrying with it yellowed leaves. As Chu Donglin led Liu Xiner through an alley, they were suddenly surrounded. 0

A group of cold-eyed humans blocked both sides of the alley, trapping them in the middle. The cold light glinted off machetes under the sun, and dark red stains could even be seen on the blood grooves of several long knives. 0

A chilling aura of murder enveloped the alley as a muscular man at the forefront wore a faint smirk, his scarred nose twitching slightly. 0

“Brothers, with Zombies roaming outside in such a dangerous world, you dare to walk alone with a girl… you’ve got some guts. Where did you come from?” 0

Chu Donglin coldly regarded the group of unfriendly onlookers, gently tightening his grip on Liu Xiner's hand to reassure the somewhat anxious girl. 0

"Are you survivors from around here?" 0

His gaze lingered on their gear, searching for anything he could seize. 0

Although Chu Donglin disliked senseless slaughter, he wouldn't hesitate to eliminate a few scoundrels if this group was foolish enough to attempt robbery. 0

His calm demeanor irritated the group. 0

"Hey! Kid, know your place! Who do you think you're talking to?" 0

Before the leader, the Scarred Man, could respond, one of his lackeys eagerly jumped in to pledge loyalty. 0

"This is our Silver Lord! Silver Lord! How dare you speak so loudly in front of Silver Lord? Who do you think you are?" 0

The lackey's provocation did not deter the Scarred Man; instead, he squinted at Chu Donglin, sizing up this man who clearly wasn't an easy target. 0

He felt a sense of threat emanating from Chu Donglin, akin to facing a volcano that could erupt at any moment, instilling a sense of crisis within him. 0

"Let's get acquainted." 0

Ignoring the lackey who had jumped out, the tall Scarred Man stepped forward to face Chu Donglin, holding a knife at his side with his left hand while extending his right. 0

"I'm Dai Yinzhi. Friends in the business like to call me Silver. May I ask your name, brother?" 0

Chu Donglin calmly met his gaze and shook his hand. "Chu Donglin." 0

It was a brief exchange, but Dai Yinzhi's eyes suddenly narrowed sharply. 0

“Chu Donglin... Lin?” 0

He savored the name, looking up and down at Chu Donglin with a strange smile on his face. 0

“The head of Kaiyuan Corporation? The business prodigy who took down the veteran Li Zheng in just a year?” 0

“Kaiyuan Corporation is indeed my creation, but that’s all in the past. As for the collapse of Li Zheng's company, it wasn’t as exaggerated as outsiders claim. That fellow crossed the line on his own, and I merely facilitated things a bit. Anyone in my position could have easily brought him down; it’s nothing extraordinary.” 0

“Hahaha... Chu Zong is truly humble. After all, who dared to challenge Li Zheng in the Wocheng business scene? Only you, Chu Zong, could be so bold as to drive him to bankruptcy; that’s not something just anyone can achieve.” 0

At this moment, Dai Yinzhi's gaze shifted to the side where Liu Xiner stood. 0

“This lady... if I’m not mistaken, you must be Liu Family’s second sister, Liu Xiner, right?” 0

The girl was taken aback. “You know me?” 0

“When you’re in Wocheng, you have to know who to provoke and who to avoid, right?” 0

Dai Yinzhi chuckled, the scar on his nose twitching slightly. “The Liu Family is notorious; anyone who crosses them is doomed. We’re all just out here trying to make a living; there’s no need to court disaster ourselves. So I do have some impression of Liu Erjie’s appearance.” 0
