The mission had reached a conclusion, and I called Team Leader Zhang to brief him on the basic situation. I did this to put his mind at ease. If I had followed the protocol, I could have left right after finishing my tasks. During the call, Team Leader Zhang asked about my future plans, and I made my intentions clear.
After hearing me out, Team Leader Zhang sighed. He didn’t press me too hard, but he did remind me that my line of work was perilous—like putting my head on the chopping block. So, I needed to be more cautious moving forward, and he expressed his gratitude as well.
Later, I had a meal with Big Mouth Lee before heading home to sleep.
With everything finally resolved, I summoned Big Mouth Lee and Lu Jianguo. The old man hadn’t shown up, and I couldn’t reach him by phone. He was always unreliable, so I didn’t dwell on it too much. However, I felt a nagging sense of something being off despite having avenged Zhou Daming.
That night, we all drank ourselves into a stupor. Xiao Xiao and the others were hiding in the nearby mountains due to the heavy Yang Qi in the city, so they didn’t participate in this mission.
As I drifted in and out of sleep, I suddenly heard a voice outside the window.
“Help!”
Help?!
I jolted awake and leaned against the window to see a pale face repeatedly banging on the glass. As I focused, I froze in shock. Wasn’t that Zhou Daming?
Zhou Daming was bleeding from his seven orifices, looking utterly miserable as he cried out, “Save me!”
“What happened? Brother, I will definitely save you…”
“The Dong Family! The Dong Family saw me escape and used dark magic to kill the old man! They sent a sorcerer after me too!”
“I managed to slip away while they weren’t paying attention to warn you! The old man’s soul is trapped; he might be turned into a ghost slave!”
I was furious upon hearing this, tears streaming down my face. “Didn’t we take care of the Dong Family?”
“They’re part of the Water Blue Sect! We’ve hindered their Light Restoration project…” At this point, Zhou Daming’s expression stiffened. “There’s not much time left; the Dong Family is coming for you. You must avenge me!”
“Alright, brother! I’m coming with you right now!”
I quickly pulled Lu Jianguo and Big Mouth Lee aside to share the news with them. They were momentarily stunned, but then they burst into tears, embracing each other tightly, both determined to avenge the old man!
"Follow me! I remember where the Necromancer is!"
This was undoubtedly uplifting news; the most troubling aspect of dealing with the Necromancer was finding them!
These guys were like a group of venomous snakes hiding in the shadows, their most terrifying tactic being the ability to take a life without a sound. As long as we could flush them out, I was confident I could eliminate them in close combat!
I hurriedly asked, "Fatty, do you remember roughly where the Necromancer is located?"
Zhou Daming chuckled and simply replied with three words: "Poet Bay!"
A cold sweat broke out on me. Clinging to a sliver of hope, I asked, "Which part of Poet Bay?"
"Eagle Beak!"
Eagle Beak had gradually faded from the memories of the people in Rongcheng; only a few centenarians who had lived through the war might still recall it vividly.
Back then, Eagle Beak wasn't even called that; the people of Rongcheng referred to it as Hundred Bones Reef!
Its location was unmistakable—on the eastern side of Poet Bay, an area heavily saturated with Eerie Energy. It could practically be considered a nest for Eerie Energy, a secret lair for countless spirits. Even Outsiders would feel a chill just being there! Yet, it was also known for its stunning scenery, making it an ideal spot for seaside villas. However, several attempts at development had failed.
Why?
It was cursed! Haunted!
Several developers had tried to build suburban villas there, but before they could even lay the foundation, their projects were abandoned due to disturbances. Workers familiar with Taiyuan refused to go there because in past development attempts, people had died—some were strangled in their sleep while others hanged themselves. One man even mysteriously drowned while washing his feet by the Fen River, despite being an excellent swimmer. His wife was present when he died; she claimed that a pale hand pulled him into the water. However, the police didn't believe her and eventually sent her to a mental institution for evaluation. It wasn't until they confirmed she wasn't mentally ill that they released her.
In short, that piece of land was anything but auspicious!
However, I do have some understanding of the Eagle Beak and a rough idea of its history!
This matter goes way back, like an old grudge, as long and foul as an old woman's foot binding!
Eagle Beak was an ancient place for disposing of corpses!
The first massacre occurred during the reign of the Manchu Kangxi, when the Qing army suppressed the Earth Will uprising. The Earth Will was hidden among the people, much like guerrilla fighters; you wouldn't know if they were soldiers or civilians unless they drew their swords. At that time, some remnants of the Earth Will were hiding near Rongcheng and Eagle Beak. Unable to find the followers of Earth Will, the Qing army decided to make a show of force by slaughtering all the Han people in the vicinity of Eagle Beak. They dragged them outside and executed them, throwing their bodies into the sea, which turned red with blood!
The second massacre took place at the end of the Manchu era during the Light Restoration in Rongcheng. The local Eight Banners troops aimed to eliminate all Han people. They led a unit from their garrison and killed indiscriminately, slaughtering several villages and resulting in thousands dead before they were pursued and annihilated by revolutionary forces. This was a form of revenge for the villagers! Consequently, those bodies were also thrown into Eagle Beak!
The third massacre occurred when the Japanese army occupied Rongcheng, annihilating the local forces. Initially, they used prisoners for bayonet practice at Eagle Beak, killing over seven hundred people. These three massacres have turned Eagle Beak into a place filled with vengeful spirits; it has long since transformed into a realm that lingers between life and death. During my previous missions, I passed through there; aside from some stone bunkers left from last century, there were no living souls left. This issue cannot be resolved; only time can gradually wash away the blood smell lingering there!
Since this Necromancer chose that location, it clearly indicates that this person is not afraid of ghosts!
A Necromancer who is unafraid of ghosts is akin to a Ghost Master!
In other words, this Necromancer we encountered not only practices potion magic but also commands spirits—essentially a Voodoo Master!
When dealing with such individuals, one must exercise extreme caution; otherwise, it could lead to dire consequences. Therefore, on my way there, I repeatedly drafted plans in my mind, meticulously considering potential flaws in this operation. Achieving complete success would be the best outcome!
