It was purely instinct that drove me to the ground!
Don't ask me why I did it; honestly, I don't know either. My nervous reflexes commanded me to do so, telling me that this was the only way to survive, so I complied.
At that moment, my actions were entirely controlled by instinct.
Without thinking, as I lay flat on the ground, I lifted my eyelids and glanced toward the corner where Ghost Granny and the others were.
In the end, it was too late.
I let out a quiet sigh in my heart. To be honest, I wasn't far from that corner—less than ten meters away—but that distance was the thin line between life and death!
Mud splattered everywhere, hitting my face with a cold, chilling touch that seeped into my skin.
Boom!
In the next instant, the stone door suddenly exploded open.
Then, an endless white light flooded the dark passage!
Terrifying energy surged forth, scattering dirt all around me. The shockwave nearly knocked me over.
I clung tightly to the ground, trying to resist being thrown off by the raging energy. I pressed myself down as much as possible while dirt flew chaotically in the passage. I could feel soil striking my face repeatedly; it was dirt lifted by the terrifying energy. However, what had once been cold and damp soil felt scalding hot against my skin now.
I had no idea what was happening or why such a terrifying force had surged into the passage. All that remained in my heart was fear.
Yes, I could indeed feel my fear; at this moment, I was trembling uncontrollably. Under the overwhelming presence of this immense energy, I felt utterly insignificant. My flesh and blood body would be reduced to nothingness with even the slightest impact.
Out of a sense of self-preservation, I curled up, my face scraping against the cold ground as I struggled to turn my head. Finally, I was able to see what was happening.
It was the Yin Soldiers.
They stood outside the dark passage, firing wildly with weapons created by the prehistoric super civilization of Atlantis. These weapons resembled guns, but instead of bullets, they unleashed beams of laser light. Each time those white beams struck the walls, they exploded with terrifying energy.
Fortunately, I was far enough away, lying on the ground; otherwise, a direct hit would have turned me into a pile of shredded flesh!
Even so, at that moment, I was surrounded by Lost Souls. Some lasers grazed my scalp, singeing my hair and releasing an acrid smell that made me tremble uncontrollably.
From that burnt smell, I caught a whiff of death.
Behind those Yin Soldiers, I saw the Rakshasa. He stood there calmly and indifferently, hands clasped behind his back, cruelly smiling as he looked down at the chaos. In his eyes, I saw mockery.
In that instant, he seemed like a deity in this place, controlling the fate of everyone around us. We were merely pawns on his chessboard; with just a gentle flick of his hand, he could easily send us into oblivion!
Was this mockery?
In any case, his lofty demeanor was exceptionally glaring in my eyes!
Yet it was undeniable that at this moment, he stood tall while I lay prostrate on the ground.
Yes, it was me lying there!
Because I am weak!
But what does weakness matter? He has existed for thousands of years, while I have only been in this line of work for a little over six months.
Indeed, he has the power to toy with me, to see me as nothing more than a bug.
However, even if I am a bug, I am not one that can be easily slaughtered. As long as he cannot kill me with a single finger, as long as he leaves me with a breath of life, I will make sure he pays for it. After consuming all kinds of poisonous plants, I will turn around and bite him back!
Ten meters.
Nine meters.
Eight meters.
I moved forward slowly, inching closer to Ghost Granny and the others. My body was covered in mud, and my face was stung by flying sand that had burst up. It hurt; without witnessing it firsthand, it was hard to imagine how terrifying energy could wreak havoc, with sand bursting forth like bullets, piercing through skin and drilling into flesh. That kind of pain was unbearable!
Nevertheless, at this moment, I ignored all of it. All I wanted was to survive.
"Kid, you’ve got some tough luck!"
Bald Qiang came over, his chubby face smeared with dirt. He gave my chest a hearty thump and chuckled.
He laughed, and I laughed along with him.
That scene from earlier would be etched in my memory for a lifetime.
Bald Qiang reached out his hand through the web of intersecting lasers and pulled me back at the most critical moment!
Because the corner was slightly elevated, if I had crawled up, I would have likely been hit. I was moving slowly, and without Bald Qiang's timely intervention, whether I could still be laughing right now was uncertain; I might have already been turned into a pile of shredded flesh.
Bald Qiang's reach was also extremely dangerous. To put it bluntly, if he had been even a moment slower, he could have lost his arm. Those lasers were incredibly powerful, far more so than the current large-caliber sniper rifle; if they had struck his arm, it would have surely been blown off!
In truth, Bald Qiang saved my life. Without his pull, I wouldn't have made it past that elevated corner!
I kept this debt of gratitude in my heart.
"What should we do now?"
Bald Qiang took out his firearm and with two clicks loaded the bullets, gritting his teeth as he said, "Should we fight them?"
"Those single-soldier weapons created by the Atlantis prehistoric super civilization are too powerful; they're almost on par with artillery. If they keep this up, this secret passage will collapse before long."
"Oh come on, you think you can fight them? With a bird gun against cannons? You should focus on dealing with your own issues instead; this isn't going to work here. Don't you feel embarrassed? They’re using laser weapons while you’re still relying on your pea shooter. It's not even the same league!"
Big Mouth Lee chimed in at some point, glancing at Bald Qiang before pointing at the dense barrage of lasers that fell like rain. He tilted his chin and said calmly, "Do you see that? That firepower is called a hail of bullets. Understand? If we go out there, we'll be turned into minced meat in an instant, and you're still thinking about fighting? You're dreaming!"
Bald Qiang glared at Big Mouth Lee. "Do you want me to rip your mouth apart?"
The two were actually bickering in such a dire situation!
Just then, a timid voice suddenly sounded from behind me: "Perhaps I have a way to solve our current problem."
As soon as those words were spoken, we all froze for a moment, then turned in unison to look behind me.
There, Furball was huddled in a corner, exclaiming, "I really am!" We were all taken aback, and Big Mouth Lee simply grabbed Furball by the scruff of its neck, staring wide-eyed in silence.
"Wangcai, are you sure you can solve the problem at hand?"
Big Mouth Lee looked at Furball in surprise. "This is the first time I've heard Wangcai talk, and now he's bragging too!"
"I really am!"
Furball, feeling treated like a dog by Big Mouth Lee, got furious and bit down hard on Big Mouth Lee's arm. The poor guy howled in pain, and as he jumped down, Furball stood up and declared, "Do you know what the most powerful technique inside White Zhaotu is? It's confinement! Do you understand?"
Ghost Granny was stunned. After a long hesitation, she asked hesitantly, "What do you plan to do?"
Furball replied with just four words: "The Net of Fate!"
At that moment, Ghost Granny's expression changed!
