After a satisfying meal, Zhengyang rested in the coffin for about half an hour, feeling that the water from the Yin River he had consumed was nearly digested. Finally, he stood up, his body still damp.
"Let's go," he said lightly, without any grand declarations. He simply ran his fingers through his wet hair. The long hair that had been tied up in a bun was now completely loose due to the previous immersion in water. He didn’t mind; he just gathered his dark hair back with a simple tie, looking neat and composed. Dressed in a dark Daoist robe, he exuded an aura that seemed out of place for this era, more like an ancient nobleman than someone who had transcended the world.
Saying little, he tightly secured the Evil Sword to himself and, without hesitation, leaped directly from the coffin into the water.
"The energy in this river is heavy; everyone be cautious," said the Water Ghost. "I will do my best to guide you all in the water. I’ll go down first."
With that, she plunged into the depths.
As soon as these two moved, we couldn’t just stand by and watch. Bald Qiang and Big Mouth Lee quickly sprang into action. In no time, everyone had jumped in. I stood up from the coffin and glanced at the bottomless Yin River. Taking a deep breath to expel the stale air from my lungs, I inhaled sharply the damp, musty cold air and gathered strength in my legs. I stomped hard on the coffin, feeling it sink deeply. Using that momentum, I sprang up and dove into the water.
Cold!
Bone-chilling cold!
That was my only sensation at that moment. The dense Eerie Energy enveloped me as soon as I hit the water, sending goosebumps all over my body. I could feel my skin tighten as waves of Yin River water surged into my clothes.
I didn’t move; I gritted my teeth against the chill and opened my eyes. The water was pitch black; I could see nothing. My clothes filled with water instantly swelled up, dragging me deeper into the abyss.
Loneliness, darkness, panic, coldness.
As all of this engulfed me, it felt like I was facing an ancient solitude and emptiness alone. The sensation was indescribable—there was no light, no hope to be seen, no knowledge of an end. All I could do was grit my cold teeth and endure while thoughts of Doron’s grotesque face filled my mind!
Perhaps it was the power of hatred, or perhaps the power of obsession; in any case, under the pressure of it all, I managed to endure the cold.
One meter, two meters.
Based on my sinking speed, I silently estimated my descent. After about a minute and a half, I realized I was nearing the bottom. In that instant, I felt my feet touch solid ground!
At that moment, I was completely stunned!
Had I reached the bottom?
This was definitely not a good sign!
Anyone familiar with rivers knows that in slow-moving waters, the sediment beneath is often very deep because it hasn’t been washed away. For example, in lakes, where the surface is calm, the sediment can be thick. Just like in our country’s West Lake—who would dare step into that water? One foot into the mud, and you’re done for!
It was the same here. So when I hit what felt like the bottom at a depth of a hundred meters, I truly panicked. My hands began to flail in the water as I tried to push myself upward, but my feet were already stuck in the mud. It felt as if they were gripped by enormous invisible hands; no matter how hard I struggled, I couldn’t break free. The sensation was unbearable. The air in my lungs was slowly depleting, and the lack of oxygen made me see stars. Moreover, an eerie energy began to stiffen my limbs, and my struggles grew weaker.
Just then, I suddenly noticed a flickering light not far away.
It was Bald Qiang and his team holding up a flashlight underwater; they must have found the entrance to that hidden passage. A glimmer of hope surged within me.
Soon, the beam of light from their flashlight shone on me.
Were they searching for me?
I felt a surge of joy. At that moment, aided by the light from Bald Qiang's flashlight, I saw countless black threads rushing through the water toward me, wrapping around me completely.
Was that the hair of a water ghost?
I instinctively froze for a moment, then felt a sudden, fierce tug on my hair, pulling me out of the mud and dragging me swiftly in one direction.
In the blink of an eye, I found myself in front of Fat Bald Qiang and the others.
It was only then that I noticed a faint glow emanating from a spot in the mud.
Could it be another glowing membrane created by the Heart of Atlantis energy that isolates water?
As this thought crossed my mind, she yanked me hard and flung me directly into the mud. My head crashed into the soft muck, plunging toward the glowing spot.
No, that faintly glowing area was indeed a membrane supported by the Heart of Atlantis energy, capable of blocking water from entering. As I broke through the mud, everything brightened before me, and I surged into the membrane, crashing into a narrow, dark passage.
This must be her secret path leading straight to the Forbidden Palace.
I had no idea how long it had been since anyone had entered this passage. The air inside was foul, and the ground was slick with moisture. As soon as I rolled in, I was covered in muddy water. Being the first one inside and having lost my flashlight meant I couldn't see anything at all. I could only find a place to lean against while feeling the Eerie Energy invade my body, causing me to shiver uncontrollably. Reluctantly, I had to channel my Killing Intent.
I channeled my Killing Intent not to expel the Eerie Energy from my body but to absorb it!
Sure enough, as I activated my Killing Intent, I felt the Eerie Energy within me rapidly transforming into Killing Intent. The foul energy that had been lurking in my limbs vanished in an instant, and my frozen limbs finally regained movement. My body temperature gradually returned to normal, and I let out a long breath.
No matter what, I had made it in alive; that was what mattered. The feeling of stiffness in my limbs had given me the illusion that I had become a living corpse!
At that moment, Bald Qiang and Big Mouth Lee began to tumble through the membrane one after another. It was clear they too had sunk into the mud and were dragged out by the water ghost.
We truly owe her a life!
In the blink of an eye, everyone had made it inside safely, though they were not in great shape. Each of them looked pale and frozen, and once inside, they fell silent and immediately began to disperse the eerie energy clinging to them.
Taking advantage of this moment, I grabbed Bald Qiang's flashlight and started to observe the overall situation here.
This dark passage was essentially a crude dirt tunnel dug out in the simplest way possible, resembling some larger smuggling holes. It was poorly constructed and clearly a makeshift effort. It seemed she was right; this was indeed a hastily created secret passage. After so many years underwater, having endured tsunamis without collapsing, it could only be attributed to luck!
After resting for nearly half an hour, our group finally adjusted our states and began to walk along the dark passage, which sloped upward.
The tunnel was about two miles long, and we reached the end in less than an hour. A stone door stood solidly before us, appearing quite thick.
"This is it."
She said, "Pass through this Taoist Sect, and you'll reach the back garden of the Forbidden Palace within the tomb. It's less than two hundred meters from where the Predecessor King lies in eternal sleep."
"I'll take a look first."
Bald Qiang exclaimed, rolling up his sleeves without hesitation. He approached the stone door and fiddled with it for a moment before managing to pry it open just enough to slip his head through. As soon as he peeked outside, he gasped, "Oh my God!" It was as if he had seen something extraordinary; he quickly pulled his head back in with a start!
