It was truly fortunate that I managed to slip in so quickly; had I hesitated for even a moment longer, the consequences would have been unimaginable!
The Grand Corridor was not long, just two meters wide and less than ten meters long, forming an arc. It was constructed from blue stone and served as a passage connecting the upper and lower tomb chambers. There were no steps, as the ancient tomb was situated above an Underground River, resulting in a particularly damp environment inside the tomb. Even the Grand Corridor was covered in droplets of water, making it very slippery. As soon as I dove in, I felt my feet slide beneath me, and before I knew it, I stumbled and fell, sliding down the Grand Corridor like a slipstream, directly into the Middle Tomb Chamber.
That was just the beginning. Upon entering the Middle Tomb Chamber, I didn’t stop for a moment; I rushed straight toward the center of the chamber!
In an instant, I was completely disoriented. The chamber was extremely humid and emitted a musty, decaying odor. The ground was covered in Moss, and not only did I fall, but everyone who had rushed in behind me also tumbled over one another in chaos.
I slid about thirty or forty meters before finally crashing into a pillar with a loud thud, which brought me to a halt. However, that impact was quite painful because my legs had been spread apart while sliding, and when I hit the pillar, it wedged itself right between them.
Do you know what that feels like?
I can tell you that it wasn’t pleasant at all; it felt as if my insides were being torn apart. The pain made my eyes widen in shock as I instinctively clutched onto the pillar wedged between my legs.
This pillar was cold as ice—exactly like a block of ice—and it seemed to be wrapped in cloth. That cloth emanated a chilling stench of decay; I recognized that smell—it was definitely the odor of a Corpse.
Why was there cloth wrapped around this pillar, and why did it smell like a corpse?
I sensed something was off and instinctively reached out to touch what I thought was a "pillar." In an instant, my face turned pale!
This "pillar" was only as thick as two hands clasped together and had a bent structure in the middle. The moment I touched it, I realized it wasn’t a pillar at all; it was clearly a leg!
I felt toes—five distinct toe bones lined up next to each other, uneven in length. This was definitely not some pig's trotter; it had to be a human foot!
“Run!”
Bald Qiang seemed to be overwhelmed with fear as he shouted in panic.
Did he really need to say that?
Once I confirmed that what I was holding onto was indeed a thigh, I immediately struggled to get up. However, the ground was slick with Moss everywhere; my feet couldn’t find any grip at all. Every time I tried to push myself up, I would just slide back down onto my backside!
My scalp tingled with anxiety. In my panic, my hands instinctively grabbed at the cloth wrapped around this thigh!
The cloth had been buried underground for over ten thousand years and had long since deteriorated. It tore easily when pulled; however, it provided just enough leverage to become my lifeline. As I continued to tug at the fabric wrapping around this corpse—like undressing it—the sound of tearing filled the air with “rip, rip” noises. Gradually, I began to rise!
Thud!
Bald Qiang and the others suddenly shone their flashlights in my direction. With the light from those flashlights, I finally saw what I was holding!
It was a mummy!
More precisely, it appeared to be a female mummy, as its face was covered with a golden mask shaped like a dog’s head, adorned with mysterious runes.
At this point, I had basically confirmed that ancient Egyptian civilization had a certain connection with the Atlantis Civilization, as the burial customs were completely inherited from Atlantis.
In other words, I could entirely refer to ancient Egyptian burial customs to interpret this pyramid.
In ancient Egyptian burial customs, only female mummies had their faces covered with golden masks!
As for Pharaohs, they did not wear golden masks; they were only accompanied by scepters in their coffins.
The mask shaped like a dog’s head, engraved with runes, was exclusive to the high priest in ancient Egypt!
That’s right, it belonged to a priest!
In ancient Egypt, all priests did not worship the gods; they worshipped death and revered the god of mummies, Anubis. Their worship of Anubis stemmed from the wolf totem, and later on, dogs became embodiments of Anubis. Thus, when the high priest died, their faces would be covered with dog-headed masks as a sacrifice to the god of mummies, Anubis. This was considered an honor; ordinary priests did not have the privilege of wearing dog-headed masks upon death. However, if the high priest was male, the mask they wore would be made of silver!
Putting all this together, I was certain that this mummy before me had been the high priestess of Atlantis in life because she wore a dog-headed mask made of gold. This meant she was indeed a woman. Furthermore, she was buried alongside Canberra the Great in the same tomb, occupying the queen's chamber. Therefore, she was not only a female high priestess but also a queen—Mother of All!
This individual must have wielded immense power in life!
For a moment, I felt dazed. The spiritual beliefs of Atlantis were quite complex; while countless citizens in the bright world maintained their faith in Orion the Great, some priests in dark corners held their own beliefs and worshipped natural totems! Even though Atlantis Civilization had fallen for ten thousand years, what I saw was merely the tip of the iceberg. It was easy to guess that during its peak existence, conflicts over spiritual beliefs must have been the greatest internal strife within that civilization. Perhaps they never waged wars externally because of ongoing domestic conflicts and relentless civil wars fueled by intense spiritual belief clashes.
All these thoughts flashed through my mind in an instant. As soon as I stood up and steadied myself slightly, I began to back away.
Just then, the mummy stirred; suddenly green light erupted from its dark eye sockets beneath the dog-headed golden mask!
Seeing this spectacle made me think something was amiss. From the moment I confirmed that this American Ginseng was standing upright, I suspected it had been animated by Scarabaeus; now it seemed my suspicion was entirely validated.
At that moment, having retreated more than two meters and still within striking range of this American Ginseng, running away was no longer an option. So I decisively drew my long sword with a clang and shouted loudly as Dark Malevolent Energy surged forth. Without hesitation, I lunged forward and thrust my sword toward the face of this American Ginseng!
Unexpectedly, the American Ginseng seemed almost sentient. Just as my sword was about to strike, its neck let out a sharp crack, and its head suddenly tilted to the side, narrowly avoiding my blow!
Then, it raised its hand, wrapped in bandages, and struck towards my chest with tremendous force. My pupils dilated in shock; I was wide open and had no way to dodge. If that hit landed, I feared my chest would be shattered, and I would die on the spot!
"Die!"
Suddenly, a hand shot out, and a lithe figure stepped in front of me. It was Wan. It seemed her inner spiritual energy had sensed the danger and surged forth like a tidal wave. With a cold expression on her face, she launched a powerful punch at the mummy.
Boom!
The clash was akin to a comet colliding with the Earth; the force was overwhelming, creating an explosive shockwave where they met.
To my surprise, Wan was actually pushed back!
It was no wonder; that strike wasn't the best opportunity for either side. After all, Wan had acted solely to save me. With her Daoist Practice still not fully restored, she was naturally no match for the mummy.
Caught in the crossfire, I was also sent flying by the force of their clash. While airborne, I felt a wave of pressure in my chest, and before I knew it, I coughed up blood—clearly injured internally. Fortunately, I landed directly on top of Big Mouth Lee, who was watching from the sidelines. He let out a yelp as he hit the ground hard!
"I'm injured! Why is he screaming?" Everyone looked at him with confusion mirroring my own!
