You can imagine the scene of being besieged by a group of dimwits; it was nothing short of a nightmare.
Damn it, with so many Serpent Women around, I’m afraid we’re going to meet our end here!
Bald Qiang muttered behind me, “There must be several thousand of them, right? Even if we had three heads and six arms, we’d still be done for today. I just wonder if these things eat people…”
“Can you not eat?”
Big Mouth Lee chimed in from the side, his voice trembling as he spoke, “You’ve seen what this godforsaken place is like; it’s definitely lacking in food and water. These creatures look like they’re starving, their eyes are all green with hunger. Did you see that one that was baring its teeth at us? I think it’s got its sights set on that little bit of softness on Xia!”
“ Big Mouth Lee, you bastard! Why isn’t it after your softness instead? That thought gives me the creeps!” I shouted at Big Mouth Lee.
“I’m so skinny and smelly; who would want me?” I didn’t bother to engage with Big Mouth Lee further; even when facing death, he still couldn’t stop his nonsense.
“Exactly! Brother Li is right!” Bald Qiang jumped in when he saw I had nothing to say!
What a pair of clowns! They just had to pick on the things I didn’t want to hear. Goosebumps rose all over my body, and I couldn’t help but turn around and glare fiercely at them both. “Can you two shut up? The fire is already burning at our brows, and you’re still chattering away!”
After my glare, Big Mouth Lee shrank back and fell silent!
At that moment, the Serpent Women seemed to realize we had discovered their presence. Their advance quickened significantly. You’d expect some noise when they moved, but this group of Birdmen approached without making a sound; they glided forward silently, their bone spears raised high.
It was clear what they intended: to throw their spears and pin us down!
“Run!”
Ghost Granny shouted loudly, then immediately turned and dashed away with remarkable speed.
Damn it! This bastard usually walks unsteadily and loves to sit, but now he’s running faster than anyone! What the hell, this guy clearly can’t be trusted.
This was a life-or-death moment; there was no time to hesitate. I saw that Ghost Granny had already taken off, so I didn’t dare to linger. Without a second thought, I ran.
As soon as we moved, the Serpent Women started hurling their bone spears at us like rain. The sound of them slicing through the air was piercing, and just that noise was enough to scare anyone. To avoid being targeted, I took a zigzag route, but even then, I nearly got hit. One spear grazed my scalp painfully, drawing blood. In that instant, I felt a rush of fear; if that spear had been just an inch lower, it would have pierced my temple and pinned me to the ground!
I wasn’t the only one in trouble; even Qingyi and the others were in a bad spot. Zhengyang’s Daoist Robe had been torn, revealing a hint of blood—clearly, he had been injured.
“This can’t go on like this!”
Ghost Granny was dodging left and right without sustaining any injuries. Truly impressive! Nearby, she pointed to a larger building ruin and shouted, “Everyone over here! We need to take cover!”
With that, she dashed toward it and quickly disappeared through an entrance beneath the ruins, followed closely by Bald Qiang and the others.
I hesitated for a moment. With so many Serpent Women around, if we entered that ruin, it would be like walking into a dead end. They could easily surround us and trap us inside!
Right now, the best option was to keep moving and try to find an exit from this cursed place—that was our only chance for survival!
Unfortunately…
I glanced at the Serpent Women still frantically throwing bone spears and gritted my teeth as I made my way into the ruins. If I didn’t get in soon, I wouldn’t last much longer; my stamina and reflexes were fading fast. If I fell behind even slightly, I’d be skewered outside. The strength of those Serpent Women was formidable; their bone spears could probably pierce through a bull!
The ruins weren’t far from me—only about thirty or forty meters away. Gathering all my strength, I sprinted toward them. At the last moment, I leaped forward and rolled into the entrance. Turning back to look, cold sweat broke out all over me; where I had just run past was now filled with bone spears sticking up like a porcupine! If I had hesitated for just a second longer, I would have been impaled!
Inside the ruins, I sat down and gasped for breath. After what felt like an eternity of thirty or forty seconds, my racing heart finally began to calm down a bit. As I breathed in deeply, I caught a whiff of the damp and moldy smell inside the ruins. Shining my flashlight around revealed that the place was completely empty; nothing remained. It didn’t take long for me to realize why—this area was too humid and highly acidic; anything that might have been here had long since decayed and decomposed.
After resting for more than ten minutes!
"Guys, what should we do now?"
Saint Void Child spoke with heavy breaths, his entire body bent over. I could see now that this guy was not just spiritually drained but physically exhausted as well! Gasping for air, he said, "We can't just sit here and wait to die, can we? Even if we didn't plan to come back standing, we should at least get a glimpse of the legendary Atlantis Ruins, right?"
"Kill them all!"
Ghost Granny still wore a grim expression. "From the looks of it, they don't intend to let the old lady go. The only option left is to fight back and take them all down!" It seemed she was quite confident; I hadn't noticed any such bravado when she was fleeing earlier. Nevertheless, her plan appeared to be the most feasible at the moment.
That made sense!
I nodded; it seemed we had no other choice.
At this moment, I estimated that those Serpent Women had already surrounded us.
Instinctively, I tightened my grip on the Azure Dark Sword, running my fingers along its cold blade. The blue light reflected in my eyes eased some of my fear and anxiety; at this point, it was the only thing that could give me courage.
Strangely enough, after surrounding us, the Serpent Women fell silent!
"What’s going on?"
Bald Qiang whispered to himself and then nudged Big Mouth Lee. "Brother Li, you're closest. Take a look outside and see what's happening."
"Damn! You have more meat on you; why don't you go check? Even if you get eaten, you can hold out for three to five minutes!"
Big Mouth Lee was the least willing to engage in such dangerous activities. Upon hearing the fat man's words, he rolled his eyes dramatically and muttered a few complaints. However, after glancing around, he realized he was the only one sitting at the entrance of the ruins. Reluctantly, he peeked out, cautiously revealing half of his face.
Just a quick look—barely half a second—and then he quickly withdrew his head!
"Oh my gosh, it looks like everyone has arrived!"
Big Mouth Lee grinned widely and exclaimed in an exaggerated tone, "There really is a big shot out there! The aura is so strong that just standing there makes all those monsters outside look like scared rabbits. They’re behaving so well!"
Has the leader come out?
I furrowed my brows in thought, struggling to understand what the Serpent Women outside were up to. At first, they seemed intent on fighting to the death, but now they had surrounded us without attacking. Were they playing some kind of tactic?
"I'll go take it down! If I can eliminate it, those things outside might go into chaos, and then we’ll have our chance!"
Ghost Granny suddenly spoke up in a low voice, tucking her pipe into her belt.
Decapitating the leader was indeed a strategy, but it came with significant risks. If we took out their leader, the Serpent Women might either descend into chaos or retaliate fiercely against us—both outcomes were undesirable!
In an instant, Ghost Granny was ready to make her move; her current aura was formidable. Just as she was about to step outside, a voice suddenly rang out from beyond!
The voice was clear and still in Cursed Script. Although I didn’t understand several syllables perfectly, I grasped the general meaning. It seemed to convey that—war only brings death; if you can understand my words, please come out and talk.
