Later, I learned that the organization, Zhengyang, classified missions into four levels: A, B, C, and D. Level A is the most difficult, while B is slightly easier. Level D missions are generally outsourced. This time, Bald Qiang and his team were assigned an A-level mission. I heard that during their last assignment, seven or eight experts had died. Since the killer had fled to the South Pacific this time, an important mission was specifically issued.
Thus, once you take on an A-level mission, surviving is luck; dying is fate, regardless of who you are!
Before my cup of tea had even cooled down, I was urged by the two burly men who had escorted me to hurry up. Reluctantly, I had no choice but to follow them.
I kept asking these two what was so urgent about this matter. Their lips were tightly sealed; although they were clearly tough fighters, they didn’t have the straightforward demeanor one might expect. Instead, they had mastered the art of subtlety often found in scholars. They always wore a smile that felt like a gentle spring breeze, yet their words were impenetrable. It seemed like they were smiling, but underneath lay a cold indifference that pushed people away by miles. Yet they greeted me with smiles; I couldn’t express my frustration and felt stifled, my teeth itching with irritation. After some back-and-forth banter, I finally learned their names: the square-faced man was Tu Gen, and the dark-skinned handsome man was Baozhu.
Once we reached the ground floor, Tu Gen and Baozhu drove us at breakneck speed in a car.
Later on, I discovered that in this organization, the more rustic-sounding names indicated seniority. Tu Gen and Baozhu could be considered second-tier veterans. For instance, among the five elders of the branch were Jin Wang, Earth Prosperity, Water Prosperity, Fire Prosperity, and Flourishing Woods. The twelve pillars of the branch included Dogsheng, Er Danzi, Wood Pillar, Big Treasure, Black Egg, Mao Dan, Tu Gen, Baozhu, Stinky Wa, Gazi, and Fortune. Tu Gen and Baozhu clearly belonged to the top tier of the administrative department and were likely among the first members trained after its establishment. What a peculiar taste!
Now that Tu Gen and Baozhu had both shown up, it was evident how much they valued this mission!
The journey was silent as we followed Tu Gen and Baozhu to a secluded dock on the island where there were hardly any pedestrians. At the dock sat an incredibly luxurious yacht.
“Board the ship, everyone!”
Tu Gen pointed to a Luxury Cruise Ship docked at the pier and said with a smile: “Before we reach our destination, you can enjoy a luxurious ocean cruise!”
I stared at that Luxury Cruise Ship in disbelief; this really was meant for long-distance travel! The size of this Luxury Cruise Ship indicated it could hold an astonishing amount of water—something only used for ocean voyages. Suddenly I felt uneasy and grabbed Tu Gen's arm to ask him: “Can you tell me where exactly we are going? Is this the organization's ship?”
“No! This is Bald Qiang's ship!”
My goodness!
Bald Qiang's yacht?
I widened my eyes in shock; I had known Bald Qiang was wealthy but never imagined he was rich enough for this! Yet here he was joining us on this risky venture—what greed!
To be honest, it was my first time on such a luxury cruise ship. I wandered around, touching and looking at everything, feeling a bit like Liu Laolao entering the Grand View Garden.
As soon as I stepped onto the deck, I spotted Bald Qiang right away.
Bald Qiang still looked strong overall, but his belly had clearly relaxed a bit, with some fat accumulating around his midsection. It seemed like he had been living quite leisurely lately!
As my gaze shifted, I couldn't help but laugh when I saw Big Mouth Lee! This guy was dark and thin, looking just as disheveled as ever, with round eyes and wearing a pair of shorts. He lounged in a big chair, enjoying his time without a care in the world. The most infuriating part was that he grinned widely, his gold tooth gleaming in the sunlight, practically blinding me. He looked utterly sleazy!
Bald Qiang and Big Mouth Lee made quite the pair of Birdmen!
Besides them, there were two other people sitting together. One was a middle-aged Taoist priest dressed in a gray Daoist robe, with squinty eyes that made him look shifty; I couldn't shake the feeling that he wasn't a good person. The other was a burly man in his thirties with a bushy beard who was sipping tea. His physique and hobby were completely at odds—definitely another oddball!
However, I couldn't quite place who these two were; they were probably new companions for this mission.
At that moment, Big Mouth Lee and Bald Qiang noticed me too. Bald Qiang laughed heartily and dragged Big Mouth Lee up from the lounge chair to come over to me. He immediately gave me a bear hug: "Haha, Xia! We missed you so much! We heard you ran into some trouble at sea; it had us all worried sick!"
Worried sick? Looking at their carefree expressions, they hardly seemed worried at all!
Thinking of this made my blood boil. I patted Bald Qiang's belly, which jiggled under my hand. "Bald Qiang! The last time I saw you, you were so fit with eight-pack abs. What happened? Did you train to turn them into one big belly? At this rate, you could launch rockets with that elasticity..."
"Hey now! Don't roast me like that! I left without saying goodbye last time because I was afraid bringing you along would be dangerous. When Zhengyang and I went to that Tomb for our mission, we almost didn’t make it back! Just a month ago, the three of us were stuck in the hospital for half a month! If it weren't for the organization's strength, we might have been wiped out by the Dong Family! But lying there for that month turned my eight-pack into one big one—hahaha!"
"The Dong Family came after you too?"
To be honest, Dong Tong was a scar on my heart; she risked everything for us and now her fate was unknown. But it was truly excessive for the Dong Family to pursue us so relentlessly!
"Yeah! Otherwise, why do you think I came to this overseas ghost island to hide? Luckily this mission is being carried out abroad!"
"Well, how did you know I was on that island?"
"A wise person figured it out. At first, we weren't sure, but then we discovered that the Yin Sha and the Three Talents Formation had been broken. We guessed it was probably you, so we searched around this area of the island!"
"Last time's mission was extremely dangerous! Big Mouth Lee was about to meet his end but still managed to knock out a Gold Tooth from a corpse. Can you believe that guy? He has a mouth full of natural teeth but insists on having a mouthful of Gold Teeth!"
A mouthful of Gold Teeth?
I was taken aback and instinctively glanced at Big Mouth Lee. He was grinning at me, showing off his shiny Gold Teeth under the sunlight, making him look even more sleazy.
Those Gold Teeth were knocked out from a corpse? I felt a wave of nausea wash over me. What kind of hobbies does this Birdman have at night? He's like a morally corrupt middle-aged man!
Big Mouth Lee chuckled and patted Bald Qiang's belly, seeming even more excited. "Don't listen to Qiang ’s nonsense. What are you talking about? As someone who works in cultural heritage preservation, my teeth aren't just any random gold. They must have historical significance! This set is just right; the taste is authentic. Across the centuries, I can almost still smell the scent of history!"
He even looked intoxicated by the thought.
I shuddered. What historical scent? It must be the stench of decay!
"Xia, this time we've gathered the Four Doors of Tomb Raiding and many experts from the Taoist Sect. What do we have to fear?"
