I could only hear the distant cries of insects and the chilling wails of spirits outside.
It was dark outside, and when I regained my senses, I frantically searched around, realizing that the bowl was missing, causing me to break into a cold sweat. I quickly crawled out of the dirt slope, and as soon as I raised my head, I was stunned by the scene before me.
Boom!
A swarm like a storm surged toward a group of Evil Spirits. One by one, the Evil Spirits howled in agony from the relentless stings. The Swarm moved like a sandstorm, crawling over everything in its path, instantly covering every Wandering Soul and Wild Ghost as if they were clad in thick armor.
Roar!
The Corpse King let out a furious roar, spewing black smoke from its mouth and nose, resembling the thick smoke from ignited black paper. Its eyes glowed with a sinister red light. With a powerful gust from its wide sleeves, it swept away layers of flying insects into the air, quickly stripping the thick armor from the ghosts.
The insects were scattered like dust by the raging wind...
Damn it! Is this what they call a Swarm of a Thousand Insects? It was so easily dispelled?
From my hiding place in a bush at the foot of the mountain, I saw the bowl standing there, her hands gesturing wildly as if trying to summon back the thousand insects. Her face was flushed, and she stomped her feet on the ground in frustration.
The swarm of flying insects charged again, creating a red glow on the ground that intertwined with the Corpse King's Killing Intent, forming an imposing barrier. It seemed this barrier would be enough to withstand the Corpse King's assault for now.
Run?
That was no longer an option...
"Let's fight!"
I gritted my teeth and shouted, "We can't just sit here and wait for death! Is that what you all think? To catch a thief, you must catch the king. We either take down this thing or get taken down by it!"
It seemed that this was the only way forward. Based on my observations over time, this Corpse King didn't possess much strength on its own. It relied entirely on its Daoist Practice, using external forces to strike at us! The quickest way to victory was to eliminate this Corpse King.
But how easy would it be to kill the Corpse King?
As we approached within about ten meters of it, a group of Evil Spirits suddenly tore through the thick layer of insect armor covering it as if it were mere paper. This group of Evil Spirits then charged straight at me.
I was momentarily stunned…
From the looks of it, these Evil Spirits seemed to be intentionally hiding their strength?
Yes, that must be right. In this extremely hidden place of death, after who knows how many millions of years of accumulation, even the weakest of these restless souls shouldn't be troubled by a few poisonous insects. So why were they hiding their power? Did I look too intimidating?
Probably not!
The more likely explanation was that they didn't want to fight!
If they were hiding their strength, and if I guessed correctly, a greater calamity was about to occur. Therefore, this group of Evil Spirits had to conserve their power. They completely did not want to expend energy on me!
But none of this made sense. If they didn't intend to expend energy on me, why were they attacking me? They could completely ignore my existence!
It seemed they were planning to test my abilities; if I turned out to be an easy target, they would crush me without hesitation!
I let out a bitter laugh. However, there was no point in regretting at this moment. As I saw that group of Evil Spirits lunging toward me, I shouted "Kill!" and charged forward!
In a narrow encounter, the brave prevail!
At first, I was filled with confidence, thinking that dealing with a few Evil Spirits would be manageable. So, I charged in with determination and an unstoppable spirit! But when the real fight began, I realized... I was utterly outmatched!
Whoever said that in a narrow encounter the brave prevail must have been a fool!
These Evil Spirits were incredibly formidable. One of them, clad only in a Grass Skirt and wielding a Stone Spiked Club, resembled a tank made of flesh. Without any hesitation, it swung its club directly at me. The sound of the wind whooshing past made me shudder; I could even feel a chilling aura accompanying the swing aimed straight at my face!
The force behind that swing not only carried physical weight but also emanated Eerie Energy!
In an instant, half my face felt frozen. How could I possibly continue charging forward? I slammed to a halt just in time to dodge, hearing a loud crash as the Yin Soldier's spiked club struck a tree trunk as thick as a bowl, splitting it cleanly in two and sending leaves flying everywhere!
At that moment, the Evil Spirit wasn't about to give up after missing me. It pulled back its club and lunged at me again, launching an unrelenting assault that left me scrambling backward for dozens of steps, flattening the grass beneath me. There was no way I could counterattack! This is what they mean by "one misstep leads to further missteps." To avoid being killed, I had no choice but to dodge once more.
This time, the spiked club nearly grazed my belly as it passed by, causing me to break out in a cold sweat. However, the Evil Spirit still wasn’t finished with me. After missing its strike, it flicked its wrist and swung the club upward again, slamming it into my stomach with tremendous force. It felt like being hit by a freight train; I was sent crashing against the wall with a loud thud. My insides felt like they were twisting together in agony, leaving half my body paralyzed from pain.
As I faced imminent defeat, the relentless assault from that creature continued while my resistance grew weaker!
Watching those clubs rain down like falling rain, I knew there was no escaping this time. A bitter smile crept onto my lips as I gently closed my eyes, suddenly feeling exhausted...
"Brother Xia, I'm here to save you!"
At that moment, a tall and graceful woman soared into the air, directly intercepting the Evil Spirit's descending club with her own strike. With just one Dragonfly Touch, she sent the Evil Spirit flying aside.
Her fair and slender hand moved with an unimaginable speed and struck down on the Evil Spirit's club with a sharp "crack," breaking it into two pieces.
It was a bowl, no doubt about it, a bowl!
But the expressions and movements accompanying it were completely unfamiliar to me.
She soared into the air, spinning like a windmill, her legs kicking out in a relentless flurry!
One kick, two kicks...
In no time at all, the chest of that Evil Spirit had endured no fewer than a hundred kicks, and then this Evil Spirit, which had seemed invincible before me... was sent flying!
That's right, it was sent flying!
The other ten or so Evil Spirits, unable to react in time, were completely stunned and dared not take a step forward!
Everything happened so quickly—from my charge to being knocked down, to that ferocious Evil Spirit being sent flying with bare hands—the entire process took less than three seconds!!
Clap, clap, clap...
At that moment, a round of applause suddenly erupted behind the Evil Spirit, followed by a woman's voice saying, "Hahaha! Impressive, impressive... It's been a long time since I've replenished my Killing Intent. This is good; This Body has guarded this place for so long... loneliness and solitude have gone unspoken... this is good..."
