Chen Ming and I, like most couples in this city, live an ordinary life, working nine to five. However, life always likes to catch you off guard when you least expect it. With the economy in a downturn, both of us were laid off from our jobs, and our lives suddenly fell into hardship. To make matters worse, due to debt issues, we were forced to move to a run-down neighborhood.
That neighborhood is truly the worst place I have ever seen. The walls are covered in graffiti, the elevator often breaks down, and the lights in the hallway flicker on and off at night, making it terrifying. Every time I come home, I clutch my bag tightly, afraid that someone might suddenly appear.
On the first night after moving to the new house, Chen Ming went out for a late-night snack and drinks with his friends. I was alone at home, feeling a bit heavy-hearted. It was quiet all around, with only the occasional sound of a dog barking breaking the silence. As I turned off the TV and prepared to go to bed, I suddenly heard a strange noise coming from the window, and my heart immediately started racing.
I cautiously walked over and saw a man wearing a black ski mask trying to pry open the window. Upon seeing this scene, I immediately screamed.
The man heard my voice, suddenly looked up, and stared at me with a pair of cold eyes through the gap in his headscarf. He quickly climbed in and covered my mouth, pushing me onto the sofa.
Headscarf man reached into my skirt, and I cried out, trying to resist, but his strength was astonishing, and I couldn't break free. Just when I felt hopeless, the front door suddenly burst open, and a figure rushed in, punching the man pinning me down to the ground.
I panicked and climbed up, hiding in the corner. It seemed that my neighbor from next door was the one who came to my rescue. He was wrestling with the headscarf man on the ground, rolling towards the edge of the sofa.
My neighbor was clearly bigger and stronger, and soon the headscarf man could only cover his head and take a beating. As I hurried to take out my phone to call the police, the headscarf man somehow pulled out a small knife and injured my neighbor, then quickly jumped out of the window.
At the moment of escape, Headscarf man glanced back at me by the window and said, "You just wait!" That look still sends chills down my spine when I think about it now.
I hurried to help my neighbor up and found that his arm had been scratched, with blood staining half of his sleeve.
"Are you okay? Let me bandage it for you and take you to the hospital to have it checked," I hastily rummaged through the cabinet and found some gauze.
He waved his hand and said, "It's nothing, just a minor injury."
After I bandaged his wound, I raised my hand to take a closer look at him and suddenly felt that he looked somewhat familiar.
"You, are you Zheng Siyu?" He spoke first.
I was stunned for a moment, "You are..."
"Yang Zongcheng Ah, you forgot about me, your classmate from the second year of high school," he laughed.
I slapped my head and said, "Oh, oh, I remember now, Yang Zongcheng, you've changed so much, I really didn't recognize you."
To be honest, I never expected to meet my high school classmate here, and he even saved my life.
"Why did you move to this kind of place? The public security here is too poor," Yang Zongcheng asked.
I sighed and asked him to sit down, then talked about the experiences my husband Chen Ming and I had over the past two years. After listening, he also smiled bitterly and said that life is not easy, and it seems that few of our classmates have done well.
Later, he talked to me about many things from our high school days, and we both got very involved in the conversation, as if we had forgotten about the recent incident where the headscarf man almost violated me.
When we were chatting enthusiastically, suddenly footsteps were heard outside the house.
I turned to look and saw that Chen Ming had returned, holding a bottle of wine. When he saw me chatting with another man, he immediately widened his eyes and walked over angrily.
"Zheng Siyu, what are you doing?" Chen Ming roared.
I was startled and quickly explained, " Chen Ming, you've misunderstood, this is..."
However, Chen Ming didn't listen to my explanation at all. He pushed me away and rushed towards Yang Zongcheng. I cried out in shock, wanting to stop it but it was too late. I only heard a loud "bang," and the bottle shattered on Yang Zongcheng's head, causing blood to flow down his forehead.
I didn't expect this sudden conflict to make my reunion with my classmates so awkward and embarrassing.

The alcohol scent of Chen Ming accompanied his ferocity, hitting me like a hot gust of wind. I stood frozen in place, watching Yang Zongcheng cover his bleeding forehead, the shards of the bottle scattered on the ground, a difficult-to-name fear and anger surging within me.
"Chen Ming, are you crazy?" I screamed, rushing over to try to pull him away. However, Chen Ming was like a wild beast out of control, pushing me away and causing me to stumble and fall onto the sofa.
"Zheng Siyu, you despicable woman, how dare you cheat on me behind my back!" Chen Ming roared, then turned and charged at Yang Zongcheng. Ignoring the pain, I quickly got up and grabbed Chen Ming's waist, trying to stop him from attacking again.
"Chen Ming, calm down and listen to me!" I shouted. However, Chen Ming forcefully broke free from my grasp and slapped me in the face. I felt a burning sensation on my face and a ringing in my ears.
"Explain? What else do you have to explain?" Chen Ming roared, his eyes filled with rage and jealousy.
I covered my cheeks, tears swirling in my eyes. I knew that at this moment, no matter what I said, Chen Ming wouldn't believe me. He had been clouded by alcohol and jealousy, losing his reason.
Yang Zongcheng took the opportunity to break free from Chen Ming's entanglement and stepped back to the door. He wiped the blood from his forehead, gave Chen Ming a cold look, and then said to me, "Zheng Siyu, I'm leaving first. Take care of yourself."
After speaking, he turned and left.
I knew he didn't want to get involved in our conflict anymore. However, Chen Ming was unwilling to give up. He broke free from me and rushed to try to stop Yang Zongcheng.
"You stop right there! Don't you dare walk away!" Chen Ming shouted angrily.
However, Yang Zongcheng walked away without looking back. Chen Ming was furious and turned to vent his anger on me. He dragged me to the bed, ignoring my resistance and tears, and forced himself on me.
At that moment, I felt an unprecedented sense of despair and helplessness. After years of marriage, Chen Ming's alcoholism and domestic violence had left me physically and mentally exhausted. I had thought about divorce countless times, but each time I compromised for various reasons. However, at this moment, as I lay under Chen Ming, I had only one thought in my mind: I must leave this man!
Afterward, Chen Ming fell asleep. I lay in bed, my body aching as if it had been run over by a car. I stared at the ceiling, with no tears in my eyes, only endless hatred. I knew that all of this was caused by Chen Ming. He not only ruined my life, but also made me completely lose faith in love and marriage.
I looked at Chen Ming's sleeping face from the side, feeling an indescribable disgust and a surge of murderous intent in my heart, and began to plan my revenge.
