After dinner, as usual, Chen Jia carried her backpack to the third floor to do her homework.
Under the soft eye-protection lamp, Jiang Mo was working on the math problems assigned by the coach, while Chen Jia was flipping through Francis Bennett's "The Secret Garden" on the bed, messing up the sapphire blue pillowcase.
"Momo, I have a question for you," she stared at Jiang Mo's delicate profile.
"What is it?" The young man lowered his eyes, his pen not stopping.
"Do you have someone you like?"
Jiang Mo paused with his pen, looked up, and Chen Jia's bright gaze shot straight over the book towards him.
"Jia Jia......"
"Class 7's Su Yulin wrote you a love letter, but you didn't reply."
Chen Jia said in a cheerful voice, "Do you remember, Su Yulin, the class flower of Class 7, that really pretty girl?"
"I don't remember."
Jiang Mo uttered three cold words, his eyes instantly turning cold and deep.
Chen Jia recalled Su Yulin's instructions and asked again, " Momo, what type of girl do you actually like?"
Jiang Mo glanced at her, pursed her pale lips, and then continued writing the question.
Chen Jia noticed that he was obviously not very happy, thinking that she had disturbed his thinking process, and didn't dare to speak again.
Every other day at school, she grabbed Fang Yu's hoodie and asked him this question. Fang Yu squinted, "Tell me the truth, Chen Jia, did you receive favors from someone again?"
"No... that's not the case," Chen Jia swallowed hard and instinctively covered the limited edition Pikachu pendant that Su Yulin had given her on her backpack.
Fang Yu smiled knowingly, thought for a moment, and said, "I think Jiang Mo should like girls with excellent grades."
"Why?" Chen Jia didn't quite understand.
Fang Yu looked at her with a look of contempt, "Girls with excellent grades are probably smart. Jiang Mo is so intelligent, he definitely wouldn't have anything in common with a dumb girlfriend."
Chen Jia said seriously, "But you're not very smart, and Jiang Mo still has things to talk about with you."
"Chen Jia, you idiot," Fang Yu said angrily as he hit her on the head with a notebook.
"You're not cute at all, no wonder no guys like you."
Chen Jia: "I don't accept it. Who are you to judge me?"
Fang Yu: Sneered, "You don't really think we're the same, do you? Let me tell you the truth, there are at least eighty girls who like me. I just find them annoying and don't want a girlfriend."
After school in the afternoon, Chen Jia told Su Yulin the information she had gathered. Fortunately, Su Yulin was not too disappointed.
She confidently told Chen Jia, "Actually, I had already guessed it. A good student like Jiang Mo definitely wouldn't be in a relationship early, he's solely focused on studying."
Chen Jia kindly said, "But I think Fang Yu makes a good point. If you really like Jiang Mo, you can strive to surpass him in your studies. Once you outperform him in exams, he will definitely like you."
"You must be joking, how could I possibly win against Jiang Mo?" Su Yulin looked horrified. "I might as well be Fang Yu's girlfriend, he's handsome too."
Su Yulin unknowingly struck a chord with Chen Jia.
Because of the girl's small self-esteem, Chen Jia began to quietly observe Fang Yu.
During lunch break one day, Fang Yu and a few boys were playing soccer on the field, while Chen Jia sat under the shade of a tree reading a book.
Three graduating class girls were carrying a large bag of ice mineral water as they passed by her, heading towards the direction of the playground.
Chen Jia stared at them as they walked by and surrounded Fang Yu.
A girl eagerly handed him a towel, while two other girls handed him water. Fang Yu said something that made them cover their mouths and laugh. Chen Jia squinted her eyes and walked away feeling annoyed.
On the field, a tall boy looked at the back of Chen Jia as he left, and grabbed Fang Yu by the neck, "Fang Yu, the thing I just told you..."
Fang Yu frowned and shook off his arm, "No."
The boy was not very happy: "We're all brothers, do you have to be so stingy..."
Fang Yu said irritably: "Chen Jia is lazy, greedy, stupid, and loves to cry. She was particularly sloppy when she was young, often wiping her snot on me. What's so good about her?"
"She is beautiful."
The boy spoke earnestly, scrutinizing Fang Yu with suspicion: "You keep beating around the bush and refusing to help. Could it be that you are interested in her?"
"Ghost is interested in her!" Fang Yu's face suddenly turned red.
He would never admit to such an embarrassing thing.
The boy kindly reminded, "Keep your voice down, be careful not to be overheard."
"Let them hear, I won't like Chen Jia even if all the girls in the world die."
Turning his head, he met a pair of amber eyes.
Chen Jia stood opposite, holding his missing sports jacket, with a slight arch of her thin eyebrows.
"Chen Jia... Fang Yu was shocked and watched as Chen Jia approached step by step."
