Thinking back to my experience at the Big Belly Deity Temple, my scalp began to tingle, and I couldn't help but let out a nervous laugh. My brows furrowed deeply. To be honest, I wasn't particularly afraid of the Jealous Woman Ghost at first, but after hearing their stories, just the mention of her sent chills down my spine. I suffer from a fear of clusters, and the thought alone made my skin crawl. If that thing were to suddenly appear, it would surely scare someone to death. Hearing Zhengyang speak like that made me feel uneasy.
Big Mouth Lee was indeed sharp; his eyes twinkled as he guessed my thoughts. He patted my shoulder and grinned mischievously, "Don't worry! Don't worry! The Jealous Woman Ghost is now a beautiful young lady; you’ll definitely be satisfied when you see her. Her appearance is absolutely genuine!"
"Really?"
"Really! She was convinced by Zhengyang. If you want to see what she looks like, just ask Zhengyang to let her show you!"
"Zhengyang is that powerful?"
"Of course! None of us three combined are a match for Zhengyang. Just look at that sword of his; it’s an artifact from the Warring States period, dug up from the Qiantang River. It has cut through Blood Corpses and chopped Zongzi!"
Big Mouth Lee walked over to Zhengyang and effortlessly drew out the sword. As the sword emerged, a burst of brilliance erupted, resembling a lotus blooming in water—graceful and clear. The decorations on the hilt were as profound as constellations, and the blade and hilt seemed to merge seamlessly, like clear water flowing over a pond—calm and soothing. The blade stood tall like a sheer cliff, imposing and majestic... I was left stunned, trembling all over in disbelief. Big Mouth Lee handed me the sword, and I straightened up to receive it with both hands.
The sword weighed over ten pounds; as soon as my fingers brushed against the blade, I instinctively pulled back as if I had touched ice. In my heart, I thought, "What a fine sword!" I closed my eyes in contemplation and suddenly realized something, asking aloud, "Could this be the Pure Jun Sword?"
"You have a good eye! This sword is one of those forged by Spring and Autumn Ou Yezi!"
Legend has it that when Ou Yezi forged swords, he used copper from Chiqin Mountain, tin from Ruo Ye River, and charcoal from Wuyi Mountain—pouring his heart and soul into it for ten years before completion. On the day the sword was finished, he quenched it in water from Zhanlu Mountain. When the sword was pulled from the water, clear skies turned into thunder and lightning with torrential rain that lasted for half a month. After completing the sword, Ou Yezi died from exhaustion!
Xue Zhu was a renowned swordsman from the Qin state who merely smiled faintly upon seeing King Goujian of Yue's Mao Cao and Giant Gate swords—they did not impress him at all. Later on, when Goujian presented the Pure Jun Sword, Xue Zhu was so astonished that he fell to the ground. After a long while, he got up and prostrated himself before the sword in utter reverence as if he had encountered an unparalleled treasure. The Huainanzi states: "The Pure Jun Sword can sever dragon boats on water and pierce rhinoceros hides on land." Afterward, this sword went through wars and sank into the Qiantang River, its whereabouts unknown!
"When the Pure Jun Sword appears, demons will hide away!"
To see the Pure Jun Sword in this lifetime would be worth dying for. The owner of such a treasure must be no ordinary person. My heart soared with joy; encountering such an extraordinary being made me feel like clinging to his leg wouldn’t hurt.
Zhengyang listened to Big Mouth Lee's wild claims with a hint of embarrassment on his face; naturally, he wasn’t going to argue back. Without another word, he pulled out a Purple Gourd and removed its lid. A plume of red smoke billowed out as a woman knelt on the ground.
As she lifted her head, my fear of clusters kicked in again; my scalp tingled and goosebumps covered my body. Seeing this reaction, Zhengyang shouted loudly, causing the woman to pull out a piece of human skin from her bosom and cover her face with it. Zhengyang then said, "You can look now!"
I looked at the woman, and since she still resembled Sister Lian, I felt less afraid. However, her eyes were completely blind, and the two dark eye sockets staring at me were even more chilling.
"Abomination, kneel down!"
The Jealous Woman Ghost didn’t dare to utter a word and obediently knelt down.
"What the hell! So obedient?" I thought to myself. This was unbelievable; the Jealous Woman Ghost must have been dealt with harshly by Zhengyang, to the point where she had lost even the basic dignity of being a ghost.
"If you have any questions, ask quickly!" Zhengyang said as he took back the sword from my hands and sheathed it. He crossed his arms and stood proudly to one side.
"Did you skin people just to make a disguise?" I looked at Zhengyang's arrogant demeanor, and with a surge of courage akin to what Liang Jingru gave me, I directed my question at the Jealous Woman Ghost.
"Master, spare me! This has nothing to do with me; they deserved it! I couldn’t help but eliminate the harm they caused! I killed these scoundrels just to leave them in tatters!"
Lu Jianguo, Big Mouth Lee, and I were left dumbfounded, our mouths agape in disbelief. "What kind of theory is this? Am I living in another world?" No, we truly were living in different worlds. I was human; she was a ghost—truly separated by yin and yang.
"Abomination! Do you think those twelve lives can just be erased by your empty words? If you don’t confess all your crimes today, I will shatter your Three Souls and Seven Spirits, ensuring you never achieve rebirth!" Zhengyang shouted angrily.
The Jealous Woman Ghost trembled all over and began spilling everything that had happened to her like beans falling from a bamboo tube.
As we suspected, the Jealous Woman Ghost had followed Er Ya to Baisha Village. After harming Er Ya's family, she vented all her resentment on the youngsters of Baisha Village. Evil spirits cannot reincarnate after causing harm, so they must grow stronger to resist Yincha. This created a vicious cycle of continuous harm!
The Jealous Woman Ghost's real name was Huang Ying'er. She was a famous actress from Rongcheng and had won the title of "Sister Rongcheng" as runner-up. Her husband was a wealthy businessman, and they fell in love at first sight during a social gathering. However, her husband had a history of abusing his ex-wife. Friends and family strongly opposed their relationship. After marriage, their life seemed perfect at first, and they soon had a daughter.
After marriage, Huang Ying'er withdrew from the entertainment industry to focus on being a good wife and mother. However, her husband's bad nature did not change; he often used the excuse of having a daughter to seek pleasure outside and would come home to beat her. Unable to endure the domestic violence any longer, Huang Ying'er filed for divorce but ended up leaving with nothing.
Although she left empty-handed, thanks to Huang Ying'er's stunning beauty, she quickly attracted a single university teacher and married him shortly after. Unexpectedly, this teacher turned out to be just like her previous husband; he soon became abusive as well. This time, Huang Ying'er decisively took action first and initiated another divorce.
For a long time after that, Huang Ying'er dared not touch her emotions. Although she had become haggard, her beauty remained. She made a comeback in the entertainment industry and gained some fame. During this period, she was once again moved by a young makeup artist in his twenties over the course of three years. She felt she had found a support and decided to live well. Amidst the uproar of public opinion, she married this seemingly unpromising man.
To her surprise, shortly after their marriage, this seemingly sincere man actually got involved with Er Ya, who had neither outstanding looks nor even graduated from school. Moreover, Er Ya threw acid on her, ruining her appearance. Her husband just stood by and watched, motionless.
Huang Ying'er was utterly heartbroken; with her beauty destroyed, what was the point of living? So, in a moment of despair, she picked up a child from the street and jumped into the river to drown herself. There was no greater sorrow than a dead heart! In her lifetime, Huang Ying'er felt like a worthless person, as expressed in the lyrics: "You smell of her perfume; it’s my nose's fault for sniffing her beauty, wiping everything away to sleep with you..."
Thus, she committed suicide filled with immense resentment, wanting to take someone down with her. Not only did she die an untimely death, but she also became a vengeful spirit. The resentment she carried throughout her life sealed her fate at that moment; she could only drift in the Wilderness afterward, ultimately transforming into the Jealous Woman Ghost.
After her death, she became an unyielding spirit. First, she used a makeup pencil to stab the makeup artist repeatedly until his entire face was peeled off. Then she tracked down Teacher's Husband's family and scared them to death while capturing their souls to torment them continuously. Before long, her rage intensified as she found the wealthy husband and burned him and his family alive in a fire.
On the night after the makeup artist's husband died, Er Ya managed to escape. Following Er Ya's trail, she arrived at Baisha Village. She thought killing Er Ya directly would be too easy for her and devised a plan instead.
She made several excuses and gifted Er Ya a dress made from human skin. The desire for beauty is particularly evident in girls; Er Ya was easily swayed by a few words. Without realizing it, Er Ya became infatuated and spent every day smiling foolishly at herself in the mirror. Later on, when Er Ya's mother fell seriously ill and planned to marry off Da Ya and Er Ya together, Er Ya was bewildered and ran into the mountains where she encountered the Jealous Woman Ghost.
The Jealous Woman Ghost came up with an idea: she would disguise herself as a Nun and spread rumors that Da Ya was made of wax and could be turned into Cinnabar Powder. She manipulated Da Ya into marrying early to eliminate Er Ya’s hidden troubles. Indeed, an agreement was reached; the Jealous Woman Ghost easily removed Da Ya from the picture and came every night to demand lives from Er Ya’s family. Terrified by this haunting presence, Er Ya's mother died of shock. Although Er Ya died too, she did not suffer soul-shattering torment from the Jealous Woman Ghost!
This seemingly ordinary statement felt off somehow; it certainly didn’t align with common sense! Hearing this made me suspicious; I straightened up and directly asked the Jealous Woman Ghost!
"Since Er Ya has lost all value now, why don’t you just get rid of her?"
