Ye Xiu slowly opened his eyes, surveying the surroundings. The walls were extravagantly decorated, adorned with various ornaments.
He propped himself up with his left hand while rubbing his forehead with his right.
His head throbbed painfully.
What had happened?
He tried to recall the events leading up to this moment, but nothing came to mind.
Suddenly, he noticed a bag on the table. When he opened it, he was taken aback, feeling a mix of surprise and confusion.
Inside the bag lay a stack of red bills.
A quick glance revealed there was about one hundred thousand.
In his entire life, Ye Xiu had never seen so much money.
Then, it hit him—the image of that girl’s astonished face flashed in his mind. In an instant, everything came rushing back to him.
Damn it, I’ve been set up. I’ve been played like a fool.
Big families are truly terrifying. Just a careless encounter with that girl led to this? Was it really necessary to kill me? What do they value human life as? Doesn’t modern law apply to them?
Dealing with such a frightening family is something I should avoid in the future.
What’s with this hundred thousand?
Could it be that I saved that girl’s life, and out of sudden conscience, she left me this as a reward? Thankfully, I’m lucky enough to have survived that bear’s slap without any harm.
If that’s the case, then I’ll gladly accept it all.
Ye Xiu began wandering around the large house. This room was not just big; it resembled what people would call a luxurious villa. The house was divided into two floors, connected by enormous transparent glass. The living room was ridiculously spacious, and the kitchen and dining area were fully equipped.
After circling around for a while, Ye Xiu went to the front desk to inquire about his room. The fees had already been paid, and there was still half a year left.
He felt so fortunate; at least for a month, he wouldn't have to worry about finding a place to stay.
Life was just like this, with its ups and downs. All the bad luck from before seemed to have been used up, and the future looked bright.
Ye Xiu thought about how he had saved that girl, and how she had given him a reward that he would usually refuse. However, in his current financial situation, he felt justified in accepting it. He planned to return the favor once he earned some money in the future.
Little did he know that the girl didn't actually need saving at all.
Although Ye Xiu now had a place to stay and a substantial amount of money, he realized that he needed a source of income. Otherwise, he would eventually run out of money and wouldn't be able to repay the Tang family.
Thus, Ye Xiu set out to look for a job.
...
A few hours earlier, a significant event occurred at the Tang Family Mansion: Eldest Sister Tang was put under house arrest.
The reason was that Tang Luor had used a precious item, the Revival Pill, to save an outsider—an ordinary person at that.
The Revival Pill was a type of elixir capable of bringing someone back from the brink of death. Such pills were extremely rare worldwide, with only a handful in existence, mostly held by powerful figures.
Despite the Tang family's seemingly grand stature in Starlit City, they were merely considered an upper-tier second-rate force.
For a force of this level, possessing even one Revival Pill was impossible; thus, it served as a betrothal gift.
The gift was from the son of the leader of Maple Pavilion, a first-rate power, who sought to marry into the Tang family.
First-rate forces could easily annihilate second-rate ones without incurring significant losses. However, Maple Pavilion could not simply destroy the Tang family to take Eldest Sister Tang for themselves.
There were two reasons for this: first, due to the presence of the Dao Alliance, they couldn't act recklessly. Without reasonable justification, any major decision would be seen as challenging the Dao Alliance.
The second reason is that although the Tang family is a second-rate power, they are among the top of that tier. It would be a significant loss to spend a great deal for a woman.
Thus, Maple Pavilion made a firm decision to present a Revival Pill as a betrothal gift, and it would only be allowed for the eldest daughter of the Tang family to hold this Revival Pill. Once the matter was settled, wouldn't the Revival Pill ultimately belong to them?
Maple Pavilion first presented the Revival Pill and then began to pressure the Tang family. At that point, if the Tang family refused again, it would seem unreasonable.
Although the Tang family agreed, they continued to delay, citing that their daughter was still young and needed more time.
However, with Ye Xiu's appearance, Tang Luor used up that Revival Pill, and now the situation had changed.
Even her father, who loved her dearly, was angered.
Before being confined, Tang Luor instructed her trusted aide to send Ye Xiu to a nearby hotel and leave some money behind.
At this point, while the Tang family would no longer seek trouble with Ye Xiu, it was still better if Ye Xiu did not appear here again.
"We only have a fleeting connection, yet why do I feel this inexplicable emotion? I do not know your name, but I always remember the image of you flying away," Tang Luor thought sadly as she watched Ye Xiu being sent away.
