I walked up to the third floor of the inn and saw a large wooden sign on the wall with the number 07 written on it.
As for why the sign wasn't nailed to the door of the room, it was because this room didn't have a door at all.
The entire third floor was one big open space, filled with more than a dozen beds lined up closely together, similar to the wards in my father's clinic.
"Damn, this is ridiculous!" I shook my head in disbelief. If it weren't for waiting for Yang Xiaochao to arrive, I would have felt an urge to leave right then.
"I want to see what kind of response Yang Xiaochao can give me. If it's not satisfactory, I will make him regret it!" I said coldly, then took the key and went to open the wooden cabinet inside the room.
Before long, I found my designated cabinet. However, it wasn't very spacious and could only fit my backpack; there was no way that bag of Mud Pills would fit inside.
"Damn it, what a piece of junk! I don't even want this!" I angrily tossed the bag aside. I had originally planned to feed that bag of Mud Pills to Yang Xiaochao; they weren't worth much anyway, so I just dropped them on the floor.
I was the only one in the room on the third floor. Bored, I used my Yin-Yang Eyes to scan the surroundings but saw no evil spirits or any oil paintings.
It seemed that the evil spirit I encountered earlier was only present on the walls of the second floor. The other areas were quite clean and posed no danger.
After resting on the bed for a while and seeing that it was about time, I grabbed a few talismans and headed down to the second floor to find Qin Hui.
As soon as I appeared on the second floor, I saw that the hallway was packed with people. They all carried burlap sacks on their backs and held various strange equipment in their hands.
Some had fishing nets, others wielded iron shovels for digging sand, and some carried a soft water hose about a meter long. There were also many clearly modified tools that made it impossible to tell what they were planning to do.
"Hey, what are you all doing?" I frowned and asked in confusion.
Qin Hui smiled and replied, "We're all getting ready to collect some Mud Pills! The place is a bit far away, and it's getting late. Let's hurry up and set off!"
I found myself surrounded by Qin Hui and her group, bewilderedly getting into a van. After about two hours, they brought me to a remote area deep in the mountains, the very place where that strange person had bathed before.
“Caw caw~~ caw caw~~” The sky was already darkening, and the eerie cawing of crows echoed through the forest, creating a somewhat terrifying atmosphere.
Qin Hui jumped at the sound of the crows. She tugged at my arm and asked, “Hey, you’re a Taoist Master. Can you take a look and see if there are any ghosts or monsters around here?”
Since entering the dense forest, I had activated my Yin-Yang Eyes. A faint Eerie Aura permeated this secluded area, but when I looked through my Yin-Yang Eyes, I didn’t see any ghostly figures.
Although I was somewhat puzzled, I shook my head and said, “Auntie, there are no ghosts here. Just do what you want.”
Upon hearing my words, Qin Hui’s face broke into a relieved smile. Holding a rice scoop in her hand, she called out, “Let’s get to work! Let’s get to work! Everyone, be quick about it. We’ll leave in an hour at most. How much you can collect depends on your skills.”
“Hehe, this place is mine! Last time I found a lot of Mud Pills here; I wonder how many I’ll get this time!”
“Haha, I found one! A good start today! My luck seems great; looks like I’m going to make a fortune!”
…
Qin Hui and her group began to show off their skills as they collected black Mud Pills from the ground with their tools. However, most of the Mud Pills on the ground were just fine powder; they usually needed to gather enough from an area the size of a tabletop to form a single Mud Pill.
“Damn it, those pills really were found here! Yang Xiaochao, you scoundrel! When I see you, I’ll make sure to deal with you!” A cold glint flashed in my eyes as I gritted my teeth.
Qin Hui and her group squatted on the ground, busily collecting the Mud Pills. Feeling annoyed at the sight of them, I lifted my legs and walked towards a nearby lake.
“Hmm? There’s actually someone painting here!” As I reached the lakeside, I saw someone setting up an easel and painting. Next to him was a lamp for illumination, and the canvas looked somewhat strange.
Curiously, I approached the person and saw he was sketching an oil painting. His style was exactly like those oil paintings I had seen earlier in the hotel. Moreover, on this canvas before me was also an unremarkable figure wearing a hat from behind.
However, as I looked at the figure in the oil painting with my Yin-Yang Eyes, I found that there was no trace of evil spirits within it.
"Strange! The oil paintings in the hotel have all given birth to evil spirits, so why is there none in this one?" I furrowed my brows and muttered to myself. I noticed that the man was about to finish his painting, so I refrained from interrupting him and quietly stood by, watching.
After more than half an hour, the man finally completed the entire oil painting. He placed his brush on the easel and turned to me with a smile, saying, "Friend, you've been watching for so long; you must have quite a bit of patience. My name is Chen Haiping. May I ask how you are called?"
I carefully examined Chen Haiping's appearance and found that he was a middle-aged man in his forties, dressed casually, with a long beard that gave him a somewhat artistic air.
I smiled kindly at Chen Haiping and replied, "My name is Jiang Ling. Brother Chen, I would like to ask you something: are those oil paintings in the hotel your work?"
"That's right; all those oil paintings are mine. Do you have any advice for me?" Chen Haiping admitted openly, looking into my eyes without a hint of guilt.
I was somewhat puzzled by Chen Haiping's background. After thinking for a moment, I decided to speak directly: "Brother, the oil paintings you've created hide evil spirits within them. You must be aware of this, right?"
"I know! Those evil spirits are my creations. Is there something wrong with that?" Chen Haiping continued to admit it openly, grinning as he looked at me. "Jiang Ling, my employees called me earlier to say that someone had destroyed my paintings. That person must be you."
I nodded and mirrored Chen Haiping's attitude, smiling calmly as I said, "That's correct; I was the one who destroyed those oil paintings. The evil spirits inside wanted to kill me, and naturally, I wouldn't just sit back and do nothing, so I eliminated those spirits. Chen Haiping, you don't think I shouldn't have acted, do you?"
