"Hello, is this Master Jiang Ling? Don't speak to me in English; I'm just a rough guy and can't understand!" A hearty voice came from the other end of the phone, speaking in perfect Mandarin.
I awkwardly touched my nose and cleared my throat, saying, "Ahem, you must be Yang Xiaochao, the Gold-Eating Mouse. What's going on? Are you abroad right now?"
I tried to change the subject, but fortunately, Yang Xiaochao didn't mind. He excitedly replied, "Master Jiang Ling, I'm currently in the United States. There's a long story behind this; I'll tell you all about it when I see you later.
Anyway, I'm here to track down a treasure map, and I've managed to get my hands on it.
Master Jiang Ling, the location marked on this treasure map is a bit eerie. I'd like to ask you to accompany me underground for a visit. I wonder if you have the time?"
Yang Xiaochao, nicknamed Gold-Eating Mouse, was the leader of the grave robbers I had met in Mianyang. We had a decent friendship.
However, I had some reservations about tomb raiding. The last time I went treasure hunting with Qu Liang, it ended up being a disaster, and I nearly lost my life in the process.
In fact, tomb raiding is a high-risk, high-reward endeavor. After all, the Nine-Dragon Cauldron in my possession was obtained from that ancient tomb.
I furrowed my brow, weighing the pros and cons. I didn't respond immediately to Yang Xiaochao's request. On the other end of the line, he didn't rush me either, so we fell into silence without either of us speaking.
After a while, I made up my mind and said to Yang Xiaochao, "I'm sorry, but I have some matters to attend to lately and won't have time to accompany you. Maybe you should find someone else."
"Haha! This time I'm not just inviting you alone. The place is quite special; I'm planning to invite all the Taoist Masters I know.
Master Jiang Ling, don't be too quick to refuse. Once you see what I've prepared for you, you'll change your mind. I'm waiting for your call back."
With that, Yang Xiaochao hung up decisively. Hearing his last words made me raise an eyebrow and shake my head; I didn't take it too seriously.
I opened the door and walked into the dormitory, turning on the light inside. Habitually, I began to take off my clothes, preparing to take a shower before going to bed.
"Whoa! Who are you? How did you get in here?" Just as I was down to my underwear, I noticed a girl in black night gear sitting on my bed.
She had a delicate figure, long black hair tied into a ponytail, and a pair of sparkling eyes that looked sharp and lively, resembling a female assassin from a martial arts television show.
Her gaze swept over me, and with a mischievous smile, she said, "Master Jiang Ling, you have quite a nice body. Just keep undressing; you can pretend I'm not here!"
I shot her an exasperated look and quickly put my clothes back on. Shaking my head, I muttered, "The world has really changed. I've never encountered a male pervert, but I didn't expect to run into a female one."
She gave me a disdainful glance and scoffed, "Hmph! Those male perverts aren't sick; they wouldn't dare lay a hand on you. Of course, you wouldn't meet them."
I was at a loss for words at her comment and took another look at her. It didn't take long for me to figure out who she was. I clasped my hands behind my back and struck a slightly pretentious pose. "So you're sent by Yang Xiaochao to deliver something to me. What's your name?"
Curiosity flickered in her eyes as she nodded and replied, "Master Jiang Ling, my name is Qiu Ye. How did you know I was sent by Yang Xiaochao?"
"That's simple. I'm a Master Rank expert. With just a little calculation, there's nothing in this world that I don't know." I held my right hand in front of Qiu Ye and pretended to calculate.
The reason I could guess Qiu Ye's background wasn't due to any calculations; it was because I had just received a call from Yang Xiaochao. Plus, Qiu Ye had been calling me "Master Jiang Ling" from the start, which struck me as odd.
Of course, that wasn't the key point. The real reason I could determine Qiu Ye's origins was that after activating my Yin-Yang Eyes, I detected a faint yellow Corpse Qi emanating from her. This aura was something I'd only seen on Yang Xiaochao and his group of Grave Robbers; it indicated someone who had spent an extended period in ancient tombs.
Seeing Qiu Ye stunned by my revelation made me feel somewhat smug, and I was ready to continue showing off.
Just then, Qiu Ye jumped off the bed and grabbed my arm tightly with a grin. "Master Jiang Ling, since you know everything, quickly tell me the lottery numbers for next time!"
I heard Qiu Ye's request and couldn't help but twitch my face a few times. If I could really figure out the lottery numbers, I would have struck it rich long ago. But there's a saying: when you put on a show, you have to see it through, even if it means crying.
"Qiu Ye, just wait. I'll calculate it for you right away," I said confidently, then furrowed my brow tightly, pretending to calculate for a while. Taking advantage of Qiu Ye's distraction, I suddenly bit my tongue and spat out a mouthful of Tongue Blood, swaying weakly before collapsing onto the ground.
"Don't let the secret slip, don't let the secret slip!" I waved my hand at Qiu Ye and murmured a few words in a low voice.
"Master Jiang Ling, are you okay? You should sit on the bed and rest for a bit. I'll get you some medicine," Qiu Ye said with a worried expression. She rushed over to help me sit on the bed, then pulled out a silk handkerchief from her pocket, inside which was wrapped a thumb-sized black Mud Pill.
A faint smile appeared on Qiu Ye's face as she pinched the strange Mud Pill between her fingers and said gently, "Master Jiang Ling, this is a good thing! I heard from Yang Xiaochao that this is a legendary Holy Medicine that cures all ailments. Yang sent me to deliver this to you. You should swallow it quickly!"
Without waiting for my response, Qiu Ye grabbed my chin and forcefully shoved the pill into my mouth.
I couldn't keep up the act any longer and quickly raised my hand to block the pill in Qiu Ye's hand, exclaiming, "What the hell, Qiu Ye! I'm not injured; I was just pretending! Stop it! What kind of weird thing are you trying to shove into my mouth?"
"Master Jiang Ling, how could you deceive me? That's just too much!" Qiu Ye glared at me angrily and stomped her left foot hard on the top of my foot.
"Ah! It hurts, it hurts!" Tears streamed down my face from the pain as I hugged my injured foot, feeling utterly helpless.
