Looking into the eyes of the Kongming Monk, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva revealed a look of compassion. He shook his head and said, "Monk, you are attached to form. Allow me to guide you."
In an instant, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva transformed into a radiant golden light, enveloping the Kongming Monk's body. The resounding Buddhist Mantras surged into the Kongming Monk's mind, cleansing the murderous intent deep within his Divine Soul.
"I don't want to listen! Let me go!" the Kongming Monk shouted loudly, struggling desperately to break free from the golden light surrounding him.
Unfortunately, his cultivation was too weak. The more he struggled, the tighter the golden light bound him, and the louder the Buddhist Mantras echoed in his ears.
"Ah! Get away from me! I don't want to hear it!" The Kongming Monk cried out in agony, his body completely restrained by the golden light. Moreover, a trickle of Black Blood seeped from his facial orifices, emitting a faint foul odor.
I caught a whiff of the air and couldn't help but furrow my brow. "Something's wrong! This smell is reminiscent of the excrement produced by Blood-Sucking Worms; this monk has been cursed!"
My heightened sensitivity to such scents stemmed from previous encounters with the Evil Insect Master, which had left me with enmity. To prevent being ambushed by him again, I had taken the time to learn about Blood-Sucking Worms.
After about a minute, the Black Blood flowing from the Kongming Monk's orifices had dried up, and fresh red blood began to ooze out.
"Squeak squeak~~" At that moment, a swarm of blood-red Corpse Bugs, each as thick as chopsticks, crawled out from the Kongming Monk's mouth—at least twenty of them. Just seeing so many Blood-Sucking Worms indicated that he had been cursed for quite some time.
The Blood-Sucking Worms sensed danger nearby. As soon as they left the Kongming Monk's body, they immediately took flight, trying to escape from the Buddhist Artifact Shop.
"Where do you think you're going? Destroy them all!" I had been prepared for this moment. The instant those Blood-Sucking Worms appeared, I took out three talismans and tossed them into the air. Then I quickly formed hand seals and chanted loudly: "Separation Fire descend, eradicate evil spirits! Malevolent beings obstructing my path turn to dust! Lingling, Earth Spirit, Supreme Old Lord heed my command! Separation Fire Talisman activate!"
As my words fell, the three talismans ignited without flame, transforming into three fist-sized fireballs that engulfed those Blood-Sucking Worms, incinerating them into ashes.
I made sure that all the Blood-Sucking Worms were eliminated before turning my gaze to the Kongming Monk, only to find him with his eyes closed, lost in a deep slumber.
As the Buddhist Mantra flowed into the Kongming Monk's mind, memories began to surface one by one before his eyes.
He saw himself at a time when he couldn't bear to step on the ants along the road. He recalled how he devotedly recited the Sutra, without comparing levels of Cultivation or boasting about his profound understanding of Buddhism.
As the memories accelerated, the Kongming Monk seemed to relive his life anew. A ripple of emotion stirred within him, and the killing intent that enveloped him began to waver. He started to question whether the path he had chosen was truly the right one.
At that moment, a scene shifted in his mind, and he saw himself taking action against his first monster. It was a Wildcat that had just gained its intelligence. The Kongming Monk had killed it because it was stealing poultry from nearby residents.
When he killed that Wildcat, he remembered its desperate gaze, and a pang of compassion arose within him. He even knelt before the Buddha for three nights in repentance.
Unfortunately, at that time, the Kongming Monk had already fallen victim to a curse. His personality grew increasingly obsessive, and he became more concerned with his Cultivation. Thus, he began hunting monsters to enhance his own power.
In the scene playing out in his mind, the Kongming Monk's hands were drenched in crimson blood. There was no trace of guilt on his face; he had become numb, resembling anything but a Buddhist Monk—more like a ruthless killer.
As he looked at the monsters he had slain with his own hands, tears streamed from his eyes. Deep within him, he felt a powerful emotional upheaval. The killing intent surrounding him began to collapse and slowly dissipate until it vanished completely.
This time, the Kongming Monk truly cleared away the killing intent in his heart. After experiencing so much, it was certain that his understanding of Buddhism would advance further in the future.
When the Kongming Monk opened his eyes again, they shone with unparalleled clarity. The aura around him had completely retracted, as if he had transformed into another person.
The golden light of Buddha radiated from him once more, coalescing into the figure of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva—Buddha Manifestation. However, this time Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva appeared somewhat transparent, and its aura had grown faint and weak.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva wore a calm smile on his face as he looked into Kongming Monk's eyes and asked, "Monk, have you attained enlightenment?"
Kongming Monk's body regained its freedom. If he wished to shatter the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva before him, a single punch would suffice. However, Kongming Monk had no intention of striking. He clasped his hands together and sincerely bowed to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, saying, "Thank you, Buddha, for your guidance! I have attained enlightenment."
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva nodded in satisfaction. He joined his hands together and recited a Buddhist mantra. Then, with a slight sway of his body, he transformed into streams of golden light that flew toward me.
Once all the golden light entered my body, I felt a warm sensation spreading within me, an indescribable comfort. At the same time, I noticed that my internal Buddhist Power had significantly increased, now comparable to my Daoist Magic, granting me Master Rank strength.
A look of ecstatic joy spread across my face as I laughed heartily, "Wow, I can't believe this! I've truly struck it rich this time!"
Every day, I would drink the Elixir of Immortality from the Nine-Dragon Cauldron, gradually enhancing my physical qualities while slowly boosting my internal Daoist Magic. I had previously worried that my Buddhist Power would not improve, but unexpectedly, this outing had resolved a major issue for me.
"I must indeed have a great affinity with the Buddha!" I thought to myself with pride. However, considering there was still the matter of Kongming Monk to address, I refocused my attention on him.
I moved my body a bit and grasped the Demon-Subduing Staff as I walked toward Kongming Monk with a serious tone. "Monk, what happened earlier is not over yet; let’s continue and add another round!"
