The monk walked into the shop, and I looked up to see that he was wearing a clean robe. He had a somewhat handsome appearance, resembling the Tang Seng from television, making him quite an appealing monk.
His gaze swept over me, and when he realized I was not a demon, he shifted his attention away. Instead, he looked sincerely at Jin Yuan, clasped his hands together, and with a solemn expression said, "Demon, how dare you appear here? You truly do not know the meaning of danger. I will give you a chance to escape. Since you have chosen to stay, I, Kongming, shall take your life today!"
Jin Yuan was provoked by Kongming Monk's words. She slammed her hand on the counter and shouted loudly, "Monk, although I am a demon, I have never harmed anyone. On what grounds do you come to capture me? There are so many wicked demons outside; why don’t you go after them?"
Kongming Monk looked at Jin Yuan with an expressionless face. He chanted a Buddhist mantra and calmly replied, "Amitabha! Demon, since I have encountered you today, I must capture you. When I encounter other demons in the future, I will naturally subdue them as well; you need not worry about that. Although you have not harmed anyone now, no one can guarantee that you won’t in the future. For the sake of all living beings in this world, it is best for you to return to the temple with me. Perhaps I will spare your life."
Seeing Kongming Monk's unyielding demeanor made Jin Yuan's face turn pale with anger. The demonic energy within her began to boil. With a howl, she suddenly lunged at Kongming Monk and shouted, "Monk, aren’t you supposed to uphold justice? Let me see just how capable you are!"
Jin Yuan's cultivation level was not very high; she knew she was no match for Kongming Monk. However, there was a surge of resentment within her that needed to be released; otherwise, it could become her inner demon and lead her down the path of evil.
"Demon, have you forgotten the lesson from yesterday? It seems I have been too lenient. I should have exorcised you then." Kongming Monk spoke with a decisive tone as he watched Jin Yuan charge at him without any sign of panic. He calmly raised his right hand and struck her with a Buddha's Palm.
Although the monks of the Buddhist Sect were kind-hearted individuals, their compassion was reserved for living beings. When dealing with those who committed evil deeds, they would also take action to punish them.
Kongming Monk could not distinguish between good and evil; he regarded Jin Yuan as an embodiment of wickedness and acted with thunderous force without leaving any room for mercy. In his mind, even if he were to eliminate Jin Yuan, it would be considered upholding justice without any psychological burden.
With a loud bang, Jin Yuan was hit by Kongming Monk's Buddha's Palm and was sent flying across the room before crashing heavily onto the ground.
Coughing up blood, Jin Yuan looked up at Kongming Monk and noticed that his expression had not changed in the slightest. She couldn't help but burst into laughter as she sat on the ground, pointing at him and declaring loudly, "Ha ha! Monk, you are so cold-blooded! You’re not practicing Buddhism; you're practicing demonic spells!"
"Demon, shut your mouth!" Kongming’s face changed as he shouted loudly. Jin Yuan’s words struck a nerve; among the monks in the temple, he was considered one of the most talented in cultivation. At just over twenty years old, he had already reached a profound level in Buddhism that many Buddhist monks might never attain in their lifetimes.
However, for the past two years, Kongming Monk's cultivation had stagnated. No matter how hard he practiced, he could not break through his bottleneck. In fact, his heart grew increasingly restless, showing signs of regression in his cultivation.
To prevent the decline of his internal cultivation, Kongming Monk began to explore unorthodox methods. Ultimately, he nearly fell into the path of darkness. It was only thanks to his master’s timely intervention that he was saved and taken out for training.
The old monk was Kongming Monk's master, and he had been guiding him for nearly a year. During this time, Kongming Monk experienced many ups and downs in life, gaining insight into the fluctuations of existence. The dark thoughts in his heart were completely eradicated.
Yet, Kongming's cultivation still showed no signs of improvement. Therefore, he resolved to slay more beasts he encountered to enhance his combat abilities, hoping this method might help him break through his bottleneck.
Kongming felt a surge of pain from Jin Yuan, and an aura of killing intent emanated from him—an aura that should not belong to a monk. His eyes turned icy as he formed a seal with his hands, summoning a phantom beast behind him and directing it toward Jin Yuan.
"Kill her! Make her shut up!" Kongming Monk shouted loudly, appearing somewhat deranged; his current demeanor was a stark contrast to his previous solemnity.
Seeing Kongming Monk's expression, Jin Yuan's face filled with fear. She realized that her earlier provocation had unexpectedly triggered the killing intent within him. Turning to me, she shouted, "Jiang Ling, save me!"
I nodded and signaled to Jin Yuan, saying, "Jin Yuanjie, step back; I'll handle this monk."
I had been preparing for Kongming Monk's attack from the moment he moved. When I saw that Jin Yuan was struggling to cope, I summoned Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's Buddha Manifestation from within me to block the phantom beast summoned by Kongming Monk.
At the same time, holding my Demon-Subduing Staff, I rushed toward Kongming Monk. A fierce light flashed in my eyes as I swung the staff down onto his shoulder while shouting loudly: "The Buddhist Sect teaches that all beings have spirits! Life and death are determined by fate; all things descend upon the celestial mountains and return to their homeland! Evil spirits cling to dust and harm living beings! Falling into the Suffering Sea means turning back is salvation! Summoning Buddha's Law—Awakening Buddha Staff! Namo Amitabha Buddha!"
Although my strike did not target a vital point on Kongming Monk's body, I put all my strength into it. As my words fell, the Demon-Subduing Staff emitted a Golden Buddha Light that forced Kongming Monk to close his eyes.
"Bang!" The staff struck Kongming Monk's shoulder with such force that it sent him flying. However, I couldn't help but furrow my brow as I glanced at him not far away.
My previous strike did not awaken the Kongming Monk, who was lost in his madness; instead, it ignited the killing intent within him. A surge of even greater power emanated from the Kongming Monk.
