After three or four minutes, Bai Haizhen's soul was guided to the Underworld by me. I also put away the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Buddha Manifestation behind me and walked slowly out of the room.
As I reached the doorway, I saw White Alliance sitting on the floor to my left, his head buried between his legs, sobbing quietly. Beside him lay a bag filled with fresh pork and vegetables, which contained the dinner he had prepared.
Looking at White Alliance's state, I shook my head in pity. In fact, he had returned shortly after I entered; he had been standing outside the door watching. Originally, he intended to ambush me from behind, but upon witnessing the unfolding events, confusion clouded his mind as he didn't know what to do.
Upon hearing movement nearby, White Alliance wiped his tears away and looked up at me, his voice trembling with emotion. "Jiang Ling, why? Why didn’t Grandpa let me go in to see him? Why?"
Bai Haizhen and I had noticed White Alliance outside long before, but we chose not to discuss him. At the moment Bai Haizhen made his decision, White Alliance attempted to rush in to stop me from guiding Bai Haizhen's soul. At that time, Bai Haizhen summoned a faint Eerie Aura around him, creating a ghostly barrier at the door that kept White Alliance outside.
I walked over and pulled White Alliance up from the ground, then patted his shoulder gently to comfort him. "White Alliance, your grandfather has passed away. Please accept my condolences. Everyone experiences life and death; your grandfather would want you to live well in the future. Don’t let his kindness go to waste."
After hearing my words, White Alliance's emotions did not improve; instead, tears streamed down his face uncontrollably. He pushed me aside forcefully and rushed into the room, crying out with a choked voice, "Grandpa! Grandpa, why did you leave me? What am I supposed to do without you? Grandpa, boohoo~~"
His sorrowful cries echoed from inside the room. Understanding the situation, I stepped out of the house to give them some space.
I walked alone to the roadside, furrowing my brow as I began to think about how to handle Bai Haizhen's affairs. Since I had promised Bai Haizhen to take care of White Alliance’s wishes, I naturally needed to see things through properly. Now that White Alliance had no family around him, I was all he had left.
Just then, while lost in thought, my phone rang. I took it out and saw that it was a call from Hou Libang.
This phone was actually a knockoff that Hou Libang had bought from a street vendor. After selecting a notebook, the scammer realized Hou Libang was naive and sold him two more phones. Before I set off, Hou Libang handed one of these phones to me for convenience in our communication.
As for our own phones, they had been confiscated long before Night Operation began. We would only be able to retrieve our belongings once Night Operation concluded.
"Hey, Hou Libang, where are you guys? Do you want me to send you a location?" I asked curiously after answering the call. According to the original plan, Hou Libang and his group should have arrived by now, but as I looked around, I found the area completely deserted, with not a single person in sight.
"Zzzz~~ Zzzz~~ Jiang Ling, it seems like we’re being watched. We can’t get away for a while. Be careful and don’t let..." Before Hou Libang could finish his sentence, the call was abruptly cut off. Frowning, I tried calling him several times, but the message on the line indicated that Hou Libang's phone was turned off.
I shook my head in frustration and put my phone away, muttering to myself, "Ugh, these knockoff phones are really terrible."
Although I hadn’t gotten a clear understanding of the situation on Hou Libang's side, I felt an unsettling sense of anxiety creeping in. Turning around to scan my surroundings, I noticed two thugs squatting by the roadside smoking. They occasionally glanced in my direction without bothering to hide their intentions.
Frowning, I recalled that those two seemed to have been following me for a while. After considering for a moment, I placed my right hand on the Sabre at my waist and walked slowly towards them.
The two thugs realized they had been spotted, but their expressions remained unchanged. They exchanged glances before one of them scoffed, "Bro, it looks like we’ve been discovered. What should we do?"
The other thug tossed his cigarette butt aside, a glint of killing intent flashing in his eyes as he stood up. His tone was icy as he said, "What should we do? Let’s just take care of him! This kid is just a little brat; why should we be afraid? Let’s just go over and beat him up. We don’t even need to wait for Boss Ma."
These two thugs weren’t under Ma Yiwen’s direct command, so they were unaware of what had happened earlier that afternoon. As the saying goes, ignorance is bliss. The two thugs pulled out spring knives from their pockets and began to encircle me from both sides.
One of them, sporting dyed yellow hair, brandished his weapon with a mocking grin and said, "Kid, I don’t care who you are; since you’ve run into me today, you’d better surrender quietly. Otherwise, I won’t hold back—I might just leave you crippled or something. Don’t come crying to me later. Heh heh."
I ignored the yellow-haired thug's provocation and scanned both of them carefully before speaking seriously, "I’ll give you ten seconds to decide. If you drop your spring knives, I’ll fight you two barehanded. But if you choose to use those knives, don’t blame me for being ruthless. It’s your choice."
The other thug sneered dismissively as he stepped closer to me and said ominously, "Heh heh, you really are arrogant. Let’s see how you handle us! Brothers, let’s take him down together!"
With that, the two thugs lunged forward with their spring knives drawn, swiftly aiming for me.
"Since you have already made your choice, do not regret it. There is no medicine for regret in this world," I said calmly, drawing the Sabre from my waist. With a swift movement, I charged towards the two thugs in front of me.
