The road from Baishan Village to the county town was difficult to navigate, especially at night. We had to be cautious of any enemies lurking in the shadows, so we dared not move too quickly.
At this pace, it would take us at least three hours to reach the county town.
After walking for about half an hour without incident, Baishan Village had vanished behind us, leaving only the faint glow of burning firewood visible from within the village.
I held a Sabre in each hand and walked at the front of our group. Thanks to my Yin-Yang Eyes, the lack of torchlight did not hinder me much.
As I passed through a grove of coniferous trees, I sensed a strong Eerie Aura emanating from within. My brow furrowed as I quickly signaled to those behind me and shouted, "There's something strange in this forest. Stay alert and prepare for battle."
"Roar~~ Stop right there! Give me your lives!" Just as I finished speaking, eight figures suddenly burst forth from the trees, clawing their way toward us.
These eight Figures wore military uniforms identical to those of Tian Long; they were indeed his eight teammates. However, they now appeared utterly unrecognizable, their bodies devoid of flesh and blood, resembling skeletons draped in Human Skin. The sight was particularly unsettling.
I glanced at the eight Corpses before me but felt little concern. I leaped over their bodies and peered deeper into the forest, sensing a formidable presence hidden within.
Gripping my Sabres tightly, a Cold Killing Intent flashed in my eyes as I muttered to myself, "I was wondering why the ghost Tian Long mentioned hadn’t shown up; turns out it's hiding here. I’m curious to see what you really are."
"Roar~~ Die! You all shall die!" At that moment, the eight Corpses charged toward us, letting out a terrifying roar as they reached for Hou Libang's necks with their bony hands.
Hou Libang and the others didn’t need my command; as soon as the Corpses appeared, they brandished their Sabres and rushed forward.
"Brother, since you’re already dead, you might as well rest in peace," Hou Libang said to one of the Corpses in front of him. With his glowing Sabre and two others, they formed a Three Talismans Formation, encircling the nearest Corpse in the center.
"Roar~~ You all deserve to die! I want you to accompany me in death! Die!" The Corpse shouted hoarsely, lunging forward with its body, reaching out to grab Hou Libang's head, and opening its mouth to bite at Hou Libang's neck.
"Brother, I'm sorry. If I can escape alive, I promise to burn paper money for you next Qingming Festival," Hou Libang said with a hint of reluctance. The three of them kept shifting their steps, ensuring that the Corpse could never reach Hou Libang's body. At that moment, the other two sprang into action.
A cold murderous intent flashed in their eyes as they swung their Sabres from both sides, swiftly aiming for the Corpse's waist.
"Thud~~" A light sound echoed as the Corpse failed to evade the two Sabres, and its body was torn open with a long gash. Intestines spilled out from the wound, hanging messily around its waist and emitting a strong, foul odor that was particularly nauseating.
"Roar~~ You all will die! Die!" The Corpse let out a furious howl, turning around in an attempt to grab the arms of the other two. Unfortunately, it was just a moment too late; after landing their strikes, the two quickly shifted their steps and chose to retreat decisively instead of being greedy for more.
"Brother, rest in peace!" Just as the Corpse turned around, Hou Libang finally made his move. He dashed behind the Corpse and bit his tongue hard, spraying a mouthful of Tongue Blood onto the back of the Corpse's head.
"Sizzle~~" A light sound came from the back of the Corpse's head as black-red Eerie Aura began to seep out from where the Tongue Blood had splattered. The once hard skull of the Corpse suddenly showed a crack.
Seeing that he had breached the Corpse's ghostly form, a fierce glint flashed in Hou Libang's eyes. Gritting his teeth, he tightly gripped his Sabre and plunged it directly into the back of the Corpse's head.
When Hou Libang withdrew his Sabre, a mixture of red and white liquid flowed from the back of the Corpse's head. The Corpse halted its movements; its eyes slowly became vacant and lifeless. It trembled slightly before collapsing straight to the ground.
The three of them looked at the fallen Corpse before them, each feeling a complex mix of emotions. Especially Hou Libang; it was his first time killing someone. Although he knew he was killing a body that had already died once, he still found it hard to accept.
Noticing Hou Libang's inner turmoil, the other two approached him and firmly patted his shoulder. "Hou Libang, don't think too much about it. Whatever happens, we can deal with it once we escape alive. If you lose focus now, we might die here."
"Thank you, I understand," Hou Libang nodded, forcing himself to suppress his chaotic thoughts. He took hold of his Sabre and followed the other two as they rushed over to help others deal with the remaining Corpses.
I had not intervened from the beginning; I simply stood quietly to the side, watching the fight unfold before me. With the Sabre artifacts I had given to Hou Libang and his group, even if they had not mastered the Three Talismans Formation, it was enough to eliminate the eight Corpse before them. The reason I refrained from stepping in was to give them an opportunity to train.
In less than two minutes, Hou Libang and his team had dealt with all eight Corpse without a single injury among them. I was somewhat surprised by this outcome.
I turned to glance at Hou Libang and noticed a subtle change in their expressions. They no longer feared the Ghostly Being deep down. If they could maintain this momentum, working together as a trio, they might even be able to handle some Vengeful Spirits that had reached Centuries of Cultivation.
"Hehe, interesting. Daoist, I didn't expect you could train this bunch of useless people to such a level in such a short time. Impressive!" At that moment, a chilling voice emerged from the nearby woods, followed by a cacophony of footsteps that suggested there were quite a few of them.
