I heard a cry for help not far away, and my expression changed as my movements came to a halt. I glanced behind the Tree Demon, frowning as I said, "Could this be a trap set by that Tree Demon?"
Ever since I learned that those three people were likely kidnapped by the Evil Cultivation, they had already become dead in my heart. But now, hearing the cries for help in front of me, I couldn't help but feel cautious. Although I was suspicious, I still held my Sabre tightly and cautiously approached the Tree Demon.
As I reached the other side of the Tree Demon, I saw three figures covered in blood sitting at the base of the tree. Their eyes were tightly shut, and they sat there motionless, leaving me uncertain whether they were alive or dead. Frowning slightly, I observed them closely and noticed that they were wearing camouflage uniforms like ours. Despite their faces being smeared with blood, I could still barely recognize them.
Seeing them in such a miserable state made my heart sink, and I shook my head sadly, muttering to myself, "You three can rest easy; I will find out who is behind this and avenge you."
As soon as I finished speaking, one of the figures at the base of the tree began to tremble violently. He opened his eyes with a pained expression and looked at me. Weakly coughing a few times, he extended his hand toward me and said hoarsely, "Help me, Jiang Ling, please save us."
I turned to look at him, feeling a bit surprised. I recognized him; his name was Wang Yan, a freshman from one of the top three military academies in the country. The two people sitting next to Wang Yan were from the same university and had a good relationship with him, though they studied different majors.
I had crossed paths with Wang Yan once before; in terms of physical skills, he was slightly stronger than me. Now seeing him in such a state made me feel a sense of melancholy. With a complex gaze directed at Wang Yan, I quickly ran toward him while shouting loudly, "Wang Yan, don't be afraid! I'll get you back right away; you won't be harmed!"
I was already quite close to Wang Yan's position, so it only took me about ten seconds to reach him. However, just as I was running over, the crow perched on top of the Tree Demon moved.
"Caw caw~~" The crow let out an eerie cry and then flapped its wings, transforming into a blur as it swiftly dove toward Wang Yan.
"Get away from me, you damn crow! Go away!" Wang Yan looked up at the crow in fear, desperately waving his arms in an attempt to shoo it away. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe; he didn't even have the strength to stand up much less drive away the approaching crow.
"Ah! My eye! My eye!" Wang Yan covered his left eye with his hand and let out a wretched scream. Just moments ago, the crow had lunged at him and quickly lowered its head to tear out his left eyeball from its socket.
"Caw caw~~" The crow opened its mouth and chewed a few times before crushing Wang Yan's eyeball. A mixture of yellowish-white fluid instantly oozed from its mouth, filling the air with a strong stench that made my head spin.
However, the crow was completely unfazed. Its eyes sparkled with a glimmer of enjoyment as it tilted its head back and swallowed the eyeball whole. Then, it flapped its wings a few times, preparing to go after Wang Yan's other eye.
"Demon, you’re asking for death!" I saw Wang Yan lose his left eye to the crow, and his face instantly darkened. At the same time, guilt surged within me. Yet, I could only increase my speed, desperately running toward Wang Yan. Finally, just as the crow was about to strike again, I positioned myself in front of him.
A murderous intent flashed in my eyes, and without a moment's hesitation, I noticed the crow not far ahead. I summoned the Daoist Magic within me and quickly raised my left hand, casting a series of Daoist Spells toward the crow while loudly chanting: "Ultimate Earth, Mystical Arts Have Methods! Supreme Three Pure Ones, lend me Divine Power to exterminate the demon spirit! Daoist Seal, eradicate demons and eliminate evil for peace! Demon-Exterminating Seal, command!"
As soon as my words fell, a beam of white light shot from my palm. The light surged into the Spells I had cast earlier, instantly activating them and forming a series of Daoist Seals that surrounded the crow in the center.
The technique of the Demon-Exterminating Seal was subtle; it would only truly manifest when the last Spell landed. By that time, the crow would be completely encircled by the seal, leaving it no chance to escape.
"Quack quack~~" The crow sensed the danger around it and let out an anxious cry. It flapped its wings wildly like a headless fly, trying to escape from my Daoist Spells.
Unfortunately for it, this crow's cultivation was too weak; it couldn't shake off my Daoist Spells, let alone escape from within them.
I glanced at Wang Yan, who had fainted from pain. My killing intent intensified. With a cold gaze fixed on the crow, I clenched my left hand without hesitation and directed the Daoist Spells into its body.
"Be destroyed!" I shouted fiercely as all those Spells surged into the crow's body. The crow’s form was crushed by the light of the spells and instantly shattered into a mist of blood that dissipated in midair.
At that moment, the Crooked Neck Tree beside me suddenly trembled. A faint aura of demon energy coalesced from within the Tree Demon’s trunk, forming an ugly face on its bark.
The Tree Demon opened its eyes on the trunk and glared at me with coldness in its gaze. Its voice dripped with malice as it said, "Roar~~ You damned human! How dare you kill my companion? I will kill you to avenge it."
This Tree Demon’s cultivation was far stronger than that of the crow; just the fact that it could speak human language hinted at its power.
However, the strength of this Tree Demon is only comparable to that of a Ghost Messenger with Centuries of Cultivation. With my already achieved Master Rank power, eliminating this Tree Demon would be a matter of mere moments.
