From ancient times to the present, those who practiced Evil Spell were fond of crafting Corpse Oil Lamps to cast wicked spells and nurture sinister beings. They believed that the Corpse Oil Lamp contained the essence of the deceased, and some even thought it harbored fragments of broken lifespans. In their quest for immortality, there were those who would willingly consume the Corpse Oil Lamp.
"Corpse Oil Lamp? Impossible! How could such a thing exist in this world! Jiang Ling, are you trying to scare me?" Hou Libang shook his head without hesitation after hearing my description. Though he verbally denied it, his heart told a different story; he was already about seventy to eighty percent convinced.
I shook my head, not insisting that Hou Libang believe me. I glanced at the houses in the village and said to him, "Hou Libang, go gather everyone in the village. The three people who went missing earlier might have been kidnapped. If we all work together, we might find some clues and perhaps even locate those three missing individuals."
I patted Hou Libang on the shoulder and flashed him a confident smile. "Hou Libang, I'll head into the deep mountains ahead to take a look. You can handle things here. Don't worry; with my skills, no one can keep me here."
With that, I ignored Hou Libang's expression and turned to dash toward the deep mountains not far away.
Hou Libang wanted to stop me, but before he could speak, I had already vanished into the night. He looked at the dark surroundings, feeling a chill as a cool breeze swept past him, causing him to shudder involuntarily and abandon the thought of chasing after me.
Hou Libang shook his head and sighed, "Sigh, when did Jiang Ling become so impulsive? I should hurry and inform everyone. Who would have thought that on our first visit here, we would encounter such a situation? I hope no one dies here; otherwise, it would be troublesome."
With that, Hou Libang quickly turned and ran toward the houses in the village. Although my earlier explanation was lengthy, it had only been less than ten minutes since the three people went missing.
I walked alone in the darkness. Although there was no light around me, I had activated my Yin-Yang Eyes, allowing me to see clearly within a twenty-meter radius.
In my hand was a sharp Sabre glowing with white light. I had inscribed two high-level runes on its side using Blood Demon as a means to combat Ghostly Beings.
This time for the Night Operation, I was not allowed to carry anything with me; thus, my Demon-Subduing Staff and Rusty Sword were left in my school dormitory. The only weapon I had on me now was this Sabre.
Thinking about those few drops of Corpse Oil Lamp I had seen earlier made my brow furrow tightly. As I ran toward the deep mountains, I analyzed quietly: "This time it seems I've really encountered trouble. Corpse Oil Lamps are considered taboo items in Yin-Yang Realms; very few Evil Cultivators dare to craft such things. I wonder what kind of person is hiding in these deep mountains."
After seven or eight minutes, I finally arrived at the depths of the mountains. Along the way, I noticed several hidden traces, and I was already convinced that I had not come to the wrong place.
"Quack quack~~" As soon as I stepped into the mountains, I heard a chilling crow call not far away. This crow had clearly stopped cawing earlier, but now it suddenly began to squawk again. Even though I wasn't afraid of Ghostly Beings, I was startled by the crow's cry.
I looked in the direction of the sound with a puzzled expression, furrowing my brow as I muttered to myself, "Something unusual must be a sign; this crow is trying to lure me over. Since I don't have any leads right now, I might as well go take a look."
With that thought in mind, I quickly ran toward the source of the sound. Of course, just in case, I kept my Sabre firmly in hand for protection.
In folklore, crows are also known as Mourning Doves. If many crows gather in one place and remain there for an extended period without flying away, it indicates that someone nearby is about to die.
Due to their unique sensory abilities, crows can easily awaken their intelligence and cultivate themselves into independent thinking beings. However, no matter how powerful a crow may be, it is still just a crow and poses no real threat to me.
After about three minutes, I finally reached the location of the crow. In front of me stood a tall tree with a crow about the size of a domestic cat perched on one of its branches.
"Quack quack~~" The crow let out a loud call and glanced at me with its lively eyes. When it saw the Sabre in my hand, its body trembled slightly. The crow then shook itself and struggled to take off from the branch, quickly flying deeper into the mountains.
"Crow, stop! I mean you no harm; I just want to ask you something. Don't run away!" Seeing that the crow was about to flee, I shouted loudly. However, the crow showed no signs of stopping; instead, it flapped its wings even more vigorously and increased its speed.
"Damn it! Not giving me any face? Then don't blame me for being ruthless." Frowning, I quickly followed after the fleeing crow with my Sabre at the ready. This time, as I pursued it, my Sabre was poised for action; if there was an opportunity for a decisive strike, I would use it to bring down that crow.
After a while, the crow led me into an entirely unfamiliar environment where only a Crooked Neck Tree stood. Although the tree looked quite ugly, it emanated a faint aura of demonic energy. This Crooked Neck Tree turned out to be a hidden demon; if one wasn't careful, they could easily fall into the hands of this Tree Demon.
"Quack quack~~ quack quack~~" The crow let out another loud call from mid-air before circling around several times and landing on a branch of the Tree Demon. It calmly began preening its feathers as if completely ignoring my presence.
Just as I was about to strike at the crow and the Tree Demon before me, a weak voice suddenly came from beneath the Tree Demon, pleading for help: "Help! Someone, please come! Who's there? Please save the three of us!"
