I watched Yang Runlong leave, shaking my head in silence, thinking to myself, "You ungrateful That Guy, I won't forget you." 0

I took a moment to calm my emotions and then looked up at Wang Yasheng in front of me, asking curiously, "Instructor Wang, is there something you need from me?" 0

Wang Yasheng smiled at me as he led me out of the basketball court, saying, "Classmate Jiang Ling, I want to recommend you for a special event organized by the military. This event is codenamed Night Operation, and it includes the most physically capable students from this year's cohort. Are you interested in participating?" 0

I furrowed my brow and seriously thought about it, but unfortunately, I had never heard of this operation before. After a moment, I asked Wang Yasheng, "Night Operation? Instructor Wang, why haven't I heard of this before? What exactly is it?" 0

Wang Yasheng chuckled and replied, "It's normal that you haven't heard of it. Night Operation is classified military information. Although its security level isn't very high, it isn't something that gets circulated freely." 0

He paused for a moment and then shook his head, saying, "As for the specifics of Night Operation, I'm not really sure either. Each operation has different content; sometimes you'll be sent to survive in the desert for a few days, and other times you'll be dropped abroad and have to find your way back using your own skills. The details of this Night Operation will only be announced once the operation begins." 0

"In simple terms, Night Operation is an exercise focused on training your survival skills—it's exciting and fun without much danger. Classmate Jiang Ling, are you interested in participating?" 0

Without even thinking about it, I shook my head firmly and replied, "Instructor Wang, I don't want to participate in Night Operation. You should find someone else." 0

Are you kidding? Wang Yasheng was serious; this Night Operation could toss people around randomly—even throwing them into the desert! I definitely didn't want to get into that kind of trouble. 0

Wang Yasheng didn't seem too surprised by my response. His smile remained as he nodded confidently and said, "Classmate Jiang Ling, don't be so quick to refuse. I believe by tomorrow morning, you'll change your mind." 0

With a meaningful glance at me, he didn't say anything more and simply waved his hand before turning to leave. 0

"How ridiculous! There's no way I'm participating in any Night Operation. Whoever wants to go can go; I'm definitely not going," I muttered as I watched Wang Yasheng walk away. Shaking my head, I continued on my way back to the dormitory. 0

As the clock struck nine-thirty in the evening, just around the time when classes at the university were letting out, I found myself walking down the path leading to the dormitory. The streetlights illuminated the surroundings, and ahead of me were five upperclassmen holding English textbooks, laughing as they walked past. 0

I hadn’t paid much attention to them at first, but as they approached, they suddenly turned to look at me in unison. One of the upperclassmen, wearing glasses, smiled and said in a calm tone, “Hello there, junior. My name is Zheng Shichao, a third-year student majoring in Information and Computer Science. What’s your name? By the way, you’re quite handsome; may I take a photo with you?” 0

The reason Zheng Shichao and his friends recognized me as a junior was that I was wearing my Military Training uniform, which clearly indicated that I was a freshman just starting my training. 0

Although I had never met Zheng Shichao before, there’s a saying that goes: “A compliment is always welcome.” With no defenses against someone like him who appreciated honesty, I nodded enthusiastically and replied with a smile, “Hello, senior! My name is Jiang Ling, and I’m a freshman majoring in Chinese Ancient Martial Arts. Actually, you look quite handsome too! The moment I saw you, I wanted to take a photo with you. Haha, it seems we have similar tastes!” 0

Upon hearing my words, Zheng Shichao's eyebrows twitched slightly in surprise, and an awkward expression crossed his face. However, he quickly composed himself and masked his reaction. Clearing his throat, he put his arm around my shoulder and said with a grin, “Jiang Ling, let’s take that photo! There are plenty of people waiting for you behind us.” 0

A sense of foreboding crept into my mind at his words. Furrowing my brow in confusion, I asked, “What do you mean by ‘plenty of people’? Zheng Shichao, what exactly are you talking about?” 0

Zheng Shichao seemed to realize he had let something slip. A forced smile appeared on his face as he exchanged glances with his companions. “Jiang Ling,” he said with a chuckle, “don’t be too sensitive. I just misspoke; it was an offhand comment. Don’t take it to heart.” 0

At that moment, one of Zheng Shichao's friends stood in front of us with a phone ready to take pictures. He opened the camera app and called out to me, “Jiang Ling! Look this way and smile for the camera!” 0

I temporarily set aside my doubts and instinctively smiled as I turned to face the camera. 0

“Get ready; I’m about to take the picture,” the photographer adjusted his angle. After a moment, he shouted, “Look this way—one, two, three! Cheese!” 0

“Cheese!” I whispered with a smile just as Zheng Shichao and his friends sprang into action. Each of them pulled out a raw egg from their pockets and smashed it on my head at the exact moment the shutter clicked. 0

Since they had prepared in advance and timed their actions perfectly while I was focused on posing for the photo, I was completely caught off guard by their prank. 0

A series of crisp sounds echoed above my head, and in an instant, the eggs shattered on top of me, leaving a sticky mess of egg whites and yolks all over my hair. 0

"Jiang Ling, my apologies," said Zheng Shichao, patting me on the shoulder with an apologetic smile. "For the sake of my goddess Zhu Caini, I have to put you through this." He exchanged a glance with his companions and then quickly ran away. 0

I wiped the egg off my eyes, a surge of anger rising within me. I shouted, "Zheng Shichao, you better stop right there!" 0
