"How can this be? How are you still alive?" The Waitress's face turned pale with terror as she spotted Lin Junpeng and Wei Penghui. Just moments ago, she had clearly seen them perish at my hands, yet here they were, reappearing in the tavern. Everything felt so bizarre. The Waitress's gaze became lost, leaving her unsure of what to do.
Wei Penghui noticed the expression on the Waitress's face and a mocking smile crept onto his lips. He walked over to her, stopping just three steps away, and said, "Sister, your name is Gao Qinglian, right? Were you trying to betray us just now?"
Gao Qinglian trembled at Wei Penghui's words, lowering her head as she nervously replied, "My lords, please calm your anger. I was completely deceived by this Taoist. Please forgive me this once."
"Haha, at least you know how to be sensible. Otherwise, you wouldn't see the sunrise tomorrow. Gao Qinglian, you can leave now." Wei Penghui shouted at her without any courtesy. The Waitress had previously attempted to escape but hadn’t even reached the tavern's entrance before Lin Junpeng and Wei Penghui forced her back. She understood her own limitations and ultimately abandoned the thought of fleeing.
Lin Junpeng and his companions had controlled this tavern for two or three hours. During this time, everyone who entered was detained by them. A few fearless patrons had tried their luck but met their end at the tavern's entrance, their gruesome fates visible to everyone inside.
The reason Lin Junpeng and his group acted this way was to set an example. After that incident, fear spread among the patrons; no one dared to attempt an escape, leading to the current situation.
As Gao Qinglian retreated past me, she caught my eye with a fleeting glance from the corner of her vision. I could sense her deep desire for me to save them. Although the others on the first floor were too afraid to step forward, they occasionally glanced my way, their eyes filled with hope as they wished for a way out of this tavern.
Lin Junpeng and Wei Penghui noticed those hopeful gazes but dismissed them entirely; they believed I had no chance of rescuing anyone.
Wei Penghui turned his attention toward me and extended his left hand into the air. Instantly, an Eerie Aura surged forth from within him, coalescing into a long sword that appeared in his grasp. He swung the Eerie Aura sword a few times with a sinister smile and said coldly, "Heh heh, Stinky Taoist, you really dared to come in here. You've got guts. But since you're already here, you might as well stay. You will definitely die here."
On the other side, Lin Junpeng summoned his own Eerie Aura as well. Gripping a pair of massive iron hammers in his hands, he stood beside me with a murderous intent and icy tone. "Stinky Taoist, I fell for your trick before, but this time we will strike together. You won't have a chance to take us down one by one. So just accept your fate and surrender; perhaps I'll grant you a quick death."
I looked at Lin Junpeng and Wei Penghui before me, a glimmer of insight flashing in my eyes as confusion filled my mind. Although these two looked exactly like Lin Junpeng and Wei Penghui from before, their Eerie Aura weapons and the tone of their voices revealed some discrepancies compared to earlier.
I scrutinized them closely, even doubting if they were impostors. However, time was running short; Lin Junpeng and Wei Penghui were closing in on me with their weapons drawn, clearly not intending to give me much time to think.
I furrowed my brow and drew the Rusty Sword from my backpack, positioning myself with the sword in my left hand and the Demon-Subduing Staff in my right. Despite having exhausted a significant portion of my magical energy during the earlier fight, I couldn't afford to show any weakness; otherwise, Lin Junpeng and his companions would seize the advantage.
I beckoned to Lin Junpeng and his group with a finger, tauntingly saying, "Cut the nonsense. If I could kill you once, I can do it again. Bring it on if you have the guts."
Lin Junpeng and Wei Penghui exchanged glances, unable to discern my current strength. However, recalling the previous battle, they dared not underestimate me. They nodded in silent agreement and charged at me from both sides.
"Stinky Taoist, this time I want to see how you block this! Die!" Lin Junpeng shouted as he raised his massive iron hammer high above his head and swung it down towards me with tremendous force.
On the other side, Wei Penghui silently lunged at my back with his Eerie Aura sword, aiming to pierce my heart. His attack was particularly treacherous; had I not been vigilant about his movements, I might have fallen victim to it.
As I faced this familiar scene, I remained cautious. The moment Lin Junpeng and Wei Penghui made their move, I quickly summoned the Buddhist Power from my Dantian, calling forth the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's Buddha Manifestation to protect my body and prevent Wei Penghui from launching a sneak attack.
Simultaneously, I channeled all of my Buddhist Power into the Demon-Subduing Staff and recited aloud: "The Buddhist Sect teaches that all beings possess spirit! Life and death are determined by fate; all things share the same realm! Descend upon the celestial mountains and return to your homeland! Evil spirits cling to dust, harming living beings! Fall into the Suffering Sea; turn back for safety! Summoning Buddha's Law, awaken with the Buddha's staff! Namo Amitabha Buddha!"
As soon as I finished speaking, a Golden Buddha Light radiated from the Demon-Subduing Staff. Without hesitation, I swung it swiftly towards Lin Junpeng.
Upon seeing the golden light approaching him, panic filled Lin Junpeng's eyes. He quickly retracted his attack and stepped back while shouting, "Stinky Taoist, how do you still have such powerful magic? This is not scientific!"
Hearing Lin Junpeng's words made me frown. When I looked at him again, I realized that his cultivation level was far below that of a Millennium Ghost General; he was merely a Century Ghost.
"Who are you really?" I asked coldly.
