Wei Penghui looked up at the incoming Buddhist Staff Technique with despair in his eyes. Instinctively, he wanted to turn and flee, but no matter how fast he was, he could not outrun Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's Buddha Manifestation behind him.
With a loud crash, Wei Penghui was struck into the ground by the Buddhist Staff Technique, creating a massive pit the size of a bathtub. His soul lay at the bottom of the pit, its aura already faint.
Struggling to rise, Wei Penghui found that his limbs had been destroyed by the Buddhist Staff Technique. Coupled with the severe injuries to his soul, he realized that there was no way for him to climb out of the pit in the short term.
Understanding his condition, Wei Penghui abandoned any thoughts of struggle. He looked up at me, his eyes filled with resentment. After a moment, he suddenly spoke in a chilling tone, "Stinky Taoist, if you have the guts, come into this tavern. Even if you kill us both, you'll ultimately die here too. Hahaha."
His wild laughter echoed as if he had already foreseen my demise. Upon hearing his words, I couldn't help but frown, an ominous premonition rising within me.
However, I did not show it on my face. My three best brothers were inside this tavern; no matter what dangers lurked here, I could not retreat.
I cast a cold glance at Wei Penghui at the bottom of the pit and raised my right hand toward him while saying, "Wei Penghui, whether I die in this tavern or not is uncertain. But I know you will die by my hand right now."
Given Wei Penghui's weakened state, I didn't need to call upon Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's Buddha Manifestation. With just a simple Buddhist Spell, I could easily eliminate him.
I secretly gathered Buddhist Power within me and concentrated it in the palm of my right hand. My expression turned solemn as I chanted aloud: "Buddhist Teachings to Save All Beings, ferrying humans, demons, and spirits! For those who are Undead, reincarnate and be free from worldly attachments! Buddhist Transformation Palm! Namo Amitabha Buddha!"
As soon as my words fell, a golden light shot from my palm into the pit, directly obliterating a large portion of Wei Penghui's soul.
Under the illumination of the Buddha's light, Wei Penghui's soul began to dissipate gradually. At this rate, his spirit could only hold on for about ten more seconds before it would completely vanish.
Yet there was little fear on Wei Penghui's face; instead, he glared at me with murderous intent and sneered coldly, "Heh heh, Stinky Taoist, if you kill me, you won't escape this calamity either. Hahaha! Stinky Taoist, you will definitely regret this."
Not long after Wei Penghui finished speaking, his soul began to weaken, and soon a cold wind swept through, causing the last remnants of his spirit to dissipate into the air.
With the immediate danger resolved, there was no need for Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva or Buddha Manifestation at the moment. Summoning them had already drained a significant amount of my Buddhist Power. Therefore, as soon as the two Millennium Ghost Generals were defeated, I quickly retracted Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and Buddha Manifestation back into my Dantian.
I walked again to the entrance of the tavern and looked up at the building before me. Suddenly, I noticed that the dark clouds atop the tavern had grown even more ominous, and the aura emanating from them felt increasingly cold.
"I want to see what secrets this tavern hides. I refuse to believe I will truly die here," a glint flashed in my eyes as I stepped boldly through the tavern's doors. My earlier victory over the two Millennium Ghost Generals had relied solely on my own cultivation.
If I encountered an insurmountable problem inside the tavern, I would summon Liu Zhenxian from the Soul Nourishing Stone. This was my confidence in entering this place.
"Welcome, sir. May I ask what you would like to eat?" As soon as I entered, a waitress in a black vest approached me. Her voice trembled slightly, and her pale face made it easy to sense her underlying anxiety.
Despite her fear, the waitress forced a stiff smile and politely inquired about my order, behaving as if everything were normal.
I glanced at her in surprise and took the opportunity to look further into the tavern. To my astonishment, the first floor was filled with people—living people.
Most of them were customers ordering food, while some were waitstaff serving tea and water. However, what struck me as odd was that despite the crowd, the atmosphere was eerily quiet; even the sound of someone swallowing could be heard clearly.
I scanned the faces of those present and noticed that fear was evident in everyone's eyes. Upon seeing me enter, they quickly glanced up before lowering their heads again, pretending not to see me.
Furrowing my brow in confusion, I wondered aloud, "What are these people so afraid of? There are no ghostly beings guarding this tavern; if they are scared, why don't they just flee?"
I hadn't intentionally lowered my voice when I spoke. The waitress standing beside me happened to overhear my words; she had been positioned at the entrance and had witnessed my earlier confrontation with the two Millennium Ghost Generals.
The waitress's eyes flickered with hesitation, but soon a glimmer of determination crossed her face. She bit her lip and suddenly grabbed my arm, speaking earnestly, "Master, you must save us! I don't want to die here. Please, I'm begging you."
I nodded and gently patted the waitress's shoulder, speaking in a soothing tone, "Sister, don't be afraid. Now that I've come in, I will definitely find a way to get you all out. You can take everyone outside first."
"Hey, Stinky Taoist, now that you've entered this tavern, you're barely safe yourself. What makes you think you can protect anyone else? You really love to boast," a familiar voice called from the second floor of the tavern. Two figures descended from above; they were the Millennium Ghost Generals I had just slain—Lin Junpeng and Wei Penghui.
