Wang Hongtao glared at Ge Bing with eyes full of resentment and said, "Ge Bing, if you want to kill me, just go ahead and do it. I, Wang Hongtao, am not afraid of you!"
Although Wang Hongtao and Ge Bing were fellow disciples, their relationship was far from friendly; in fact, there was a deep-seated enmity between them.
This animosity dated back to a year ago when Ge Bing and Wang Hongtao had been as close as brothers. They had stumbled upon a treasure map and decided to team up for an adventure in an ancient tomb. Inside that tomb, they faced numerous traps and mechanisms, slaying many Zombies along the way, until they finally reached the chamber that housed the stone coffin of the tomb's owner.
In that chamber, Wang Hongtao and Ge Bing discovered a peculiar tree. It stood only half a meter tall, growing atop the stone coffin as if guarding it.
Even more bizarre was the fact that the tree had blood-red leaves on its left side while its right side boasted vibrant green leaves, creating a striking contrast.
Wang Hongtao and Ge Bing were not particularly excited by the appearance of the tree; their focus was instead on the two fist-sized fruits growing from it.
Standing beside the stone coffin, Wang Hongtao greedily glanced at the two fruits. He took a deep breath and noticed a faint but pleasant fragrance wafting from them.
As that fragrance entered Wang Hongtao's body, he felt a slight increase in his Cultivation. Although this boost was minimal, he could easily imagine the astonishing enhancement he would gain by consuming those two fruits.
Excitedly looking at Ge Bing beside him, Wang Hongtao said, "Ge Bing, these fruits look extraordinary; we’ve struck gold this time. Even though there are only two fruits, it’s perfect—one for each of us—so there won’t be any disputes."
Ge Bing nodded and smiled. "Wang Hongtao, since you’re my junior brother, I’ll let you pick one first."
Wang Hongtao did not refuse; he reached out and plucked the fruit on the left while Ge Bing took the one on the right.
However, as soon as they picked the fruits, the tree atop the stone coffin suddenly began to shake. Leaves started falling onto the coffin, and before their eyes, the tree visibly withered away, turning into a pile of soil that accumulated on top of the stone coffin.
Everything happened too quickly. Wang Hongtao and Ge Bing could only stare blankly, completely unaware of what was happening. However, when they noticed the fruits in their hands starting to shrivel, they didn't hesitate and immediately swallowed them.
As soon as the two fruits were consumed, Wang Hongtao and Ge Bing, who originally possessed only the strength of a Taoist Master Tablet, felt their cultivation levels surge, breaking through to Master Rank and continuing to ascend to even higher levels.
Wang Hongtao sensed the change within him. Looking at his hands, he burst into wild laughter and exclaimed, "Haha, I never expected that I, Wang Hongtao, could cultivate to such strength! As long as I leave this ancient tomb, I can go back. I can finally return to my master!"
Just as Wang Hongtao finished speaking, he suddenly noticed that his hands looked somewhat withered, completely different from before. His brow furrowed as he scrutinized his hands, utterly confused about what was happening.
At that moment, Ge Bing's voice came through. He pointed at Wang Hongtao in panic and said, "Wang Hongtao, look at yourself! How did you suddenly become so old?"
A sense of foreboding washed over Wang Hongtao. He quickly took out his phone and glanced at the screen, only to be horrified to find his face covered in wrinkles and his hair completely white, making him look like a man in his sixties.
"How could this happen? What is going on?" Wang Hongtao's mind was in a daze. He turned to Ge Bing beside him and discovered that Ge Bing's body had also undergone a transformation. However, rather than aging, Ge Bing appeared younger, looking like a teenager.
Ge Bing felt the vitality coursing through his body and wore an ecstatic expression. But when he noticed Wang Hongtao glaring at him with resentment, he quickly wiped the smile off his face and tried to comfort him. "Wang Hongtao, don't worry. I suspect our physical changes are due to those two fruits. There might be something in this tomb that can counteract their effects."
Hearing Ge Bing's words, Wang Hongtao could only nod helplessly. Although he envied Ge Bing's transformation, he held no ill will towards him. After all, it was he who had chosen the fruit; it had nothing to do with Ge Bing.
Feeling dejected, Wang Hongtao silently searched the entire tomb but found nothing useful. Fortunately, his body did not continue to age; otherwise, he might have died of old age right there in the tomb.
Wang Hongtao looked at the stone coffin before him with a glint in his eyes and said resolutely, "Ge Bing, I want to open this stone coffin and see if the antidote is hidden inside."
Previously, Wang Hongtao and Ge Bing had agreed not to open any coffins within the ancient tomb for fear of encountering ghostly beings they couldn't handle. Although they had encountered some zombies before, those were merely burial servants with weak cultivation compared to what lay within this stone coffin.
After seeing Wang Hongtao's gaze, Ge Bing knew he couldn't dissuade him. He could only nod and say, "Wang Hongtao, you can open the coffin, but we need to be cautious to avoid any mishaps."
Wang Hongtao was not a reckless person. He took out a humanoid origami he had prepared earlier and summoned seven Paper Puppets at once. He commanded the Paper Men to open the stone coffin while he and Ge Bing stood at a distance near the exit of the tomb, ready to retreat at the first sign of trouble.
The seven Paper Men walked leisurely to the side of the stone coffin and worked together to push the lid open.
After a while, with a creaking sound, they managed to create a gap the size of a fist. One of the Paper Men approached the opening and leaned down to peer inside, trying to investigate what lay within the coffin.
Suddenly, a pale arm shot out from inside the coffin and struck the Paper Puppet's head, instantly destroying the ghost within that Paper Man with a single blow.
