Wang Hongtao left an Evil Spell mark within Wu Chun. Just moments ago, he had seen through Wu Chun's eyes what was happening outside. He had initially thought that Wu Chun would easily eliminate Zhao Sanbao and his companions, but the outcome was the exact opposite; Wu Chun was actually defeated by the three of them working together.
Wang Hongtao's expression darkened as he glanced at the shop's entrance, his tone filled with dissatisfaction. "Useless! Truly useless! If you can't even handle three ordinary people, you deserve to die!"
With that, Wang Hongtao turned and walked behind the counter. He picked up a peculiar Iron Can from the ground, which was engraved with many bizarre skulls. Some skulls were as small as a thumb, while others were as large as a palm. Even more strangely, the carvings appeared lifelike; despite being mere sculptures, they conveyed emotions—some skulls seemed to be laughing heartily while others appeared to be weeping loudly, each displaying a unique expression.
Wang Hongtao looked at the Iron Can in his hands, filled with hesitation. This Iron Can was actually the magical tool he used to refine the Twelve Fiends Resurrection Technique. Upon closer inspection, one could see that there were exactly eleven skulls engraved on its surface. This indicated that it contained the souls of eleven individuals; only one more soul was needed from Zhao Sanbao for the Twelve Fiends Resurrection Technique to be completed. Unfortunately, Wang Hongtao realized he no longer had that opportunity.
"Alas, I never expected that all my plans would be ruined by a stinky brat," Wang Hongtao sighed. Soon after, an unusual glint flashed in his eyes as he gazed at the Iron Can. His expression turned frenzied as he declared, "As long as the last soul belongs to someone born in the Year of the Tiger, it will suffice. Conveniently enough, I am born in the Year of the Tiger. Let me offer my own soul to complete the final step of this Twelve Fiends Resurrection Technique."
With that, Wang Hongtao retrieved a finely crafted Black Carving Knife from behind the counter—the very knife he had used to extract souls from the bodies of those eleven individuals.
Wang Hongtao gazed at the carving knife with a complex expression. He gently caressed it and then chuckled self-deprecatingly. "Heh, I, Wang Hongtao, traveled far and wide to learn these techniques. Who would have thought I would end up like this? Truly ridiculous! Hahaha! But perhaps this is for the best; dying by my own hand is better than falling into the hands of my enemies."
Whether living or dead, everyone possesses three souls and seven spirits. The three souls are known as the Soul, Earth Soul, and Human Soul, located above a person's Spirit Cover and their arms. The seven spirits reside within a person's internal organs, with specific locations varying from person to person.
Having made up his mind, Wang Hongtao raised the carving knife and made a cut across his Spirit Cover, extracting a pure white soul—his own.
Once his soul left his body, Wang Hongtao's complexion turned pale and he felt weak, barely able to stand upright. He struggled not to collapse when suddenly a mouthful of fresh blood spewed from his lips.
"Ugh! It hurts so much! So this is what it feels like to have your soul extracted; no wonder those people cry like that," Wang Hongtao wiped away the blood at the corner of his mouth. While he still had some clarity of mind, he quickly opened his clothing and made a cut with the carving knife on his navel.
He then reached into his abdomen and after some searching, pulled out a strand of red soul tainted with blood.
"Ha ha, I've finally found it! Now I can leave with peace of mind!" Wang Hongtao let out a hearty laugh as he merged the soul and spirit in his hands, then without hesitation, tossed them into the Iron Can.
The moment Wang Hongtao completed this act, his body swayed and he collapsed to the ground. At the same time, a brand new skull appeared on the surface of the Iron Can, its face twisted into a maniacal grin that bore a resemblance to Wang Hongtao just before his death.
As twelve skulls emerged on the Iron Can, they seemed to come alive. They opened their mouths and began to bite at each other, trying to swallow one another whole.
"Crack crack~~" With the sound of the skulls tearing at each other, fine cracks began to appear on the Iron Can's surface, growing larger with each passing moment. Once only one skull remained, it would signal the moment the Iron Can shattered and the demon was unleashed.
"Bang~~" After a while, a loud noise came from the shop's entrance as I kicked the door open and rushed inside, but I was still a step too late.
I glanced at Wang Hongtao's lifeless body on the ground and then at the peculiar Iron Can beside him, a vague suspicion forming in my mind.
"What a lunatic!" I shook my head in disbelief as I approached and picked up the Iron Can, examining it closely. After a moment, my brow furrowed as I muttered to myself, "It seems there's no way to stop this demon from emerging. However, it won't be so easy for it to break free!"
I bit my finger hard enough to draw blood and quickly began inscribing Daoist Sect runes on the Iron Can while chanting aloud: "Ultimate Earth, Mystical Arts Have Methods. By my Blood Demon, Seal the Evil Spirit. Half-Life, Half-Moon Seal. My seal shall not break; the evil spirit shall not emerge. Sealing Spirit Seal, command!"
As soon as my words fell and I completed the last rune inscription, blood-red symbols on the Iron Can emitted a white glow. One by one, they flew toward the skulls inside the Iron Can in an attempt to seal them away.
"Crack crack~~" A strange noise erupted from within the Iron Can as those skulls opened their mouths and tore apart the flying runes into shreds. Their eyes turned crimson as if provoked, and their frenzy for consumption intensified.
Seeing more cracks forming on the Iron Can in my hands made me frown deeply. "I still need to look into this Twelve Fiends Resurrection Technique; it seems I won't be able to seal this demon after all. The only thing I can do now is set up a formation in advance so that when this demon emerges, I can immediately slay it."
I observed the speed at which those skulls devoured each other and estimated that it would take at least four or five moments before that demon could break free.
Wang Hongtao had originally planned everything meticulously. He even used those Corpse to nourish souls, hoping to shorten the time for the demon's emergence. Unfortunately, he ultimately failed to extract Zhao Sanbao's soul, which significantly undermined his plans.
I placed the Iron Can into my backpack and then stepped out of the shop. Wang Hongtao was already dealt with, and there was no longer any reason for me to stay.
However, one thing troubled me: Wang Hongtao had just died not long ago, yet I had not seen his soul. I walked outside the shop, pondering aloud, "This situation is a bit strange; I need to think it over carefully."
