Master Chen's eyes lit up with excitement as he heard that I could let him see Chen Mengmeng's spirit. He nodded vigorously, his voice trembling with emotion. "Ten minutes is enough, more than enough! Thank you, Master, you truly are a good person!"
"Master Chen, close your eyes. Open them only when I tell you to," I instructed seriously. He complied, his face flushed with excitement, and his body trembled slightly.
My backpack had been taken by the police, leaving me without any tools to perform the ritual. The only option was to bite my own fingertip, using my Blood Demon as a guide. I swiftly began to inscribe Taoist Talismans on Master Chen's eyelids.
"Ultimate Earth, Mystical Arts Have Methods. Daoist Guardian, show compassion for the spirits. With blood as a guide, bridging yin and yang. Yin-Yang Eyes open, let the spirit manifest. Daoist Sect's yin-yang incantation, open your eyes!" As I recited the incantation, I quickly finished inscribing the talismans. Just as my words faded, the symbols on Master Chen's eyelids were complete. I injected a strand of Daoist Magic into the talismans and called out loudly to him, "Master Chen, you can open your eyes now."
The talismans on Master Chen's eyelids resembled delicate pupils. After infusing them with Daoist Magic, a faint white light emanated from them. In an instant, the symbols twisted and shot into Master Chen's eyes. When he opened them, I noticed a faint crimson ring around his pupils.
"Cute! It really is you! Dad finally gets to see you!" Tears streamed down Master Chen's face as he rushed toward Chen Mengmeng's spirit, reaching out to embrace her. Unfortunately, his hands passed right through her; he couldn't grasp her form at all.
Seeing this unfold before him only made Master Chen's tears flow more freely. He sank to the ground in despair, choking on his words. "Cute, I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry!"
At that moment, Chen Mengmeng stepped closer to him and gently wiped away his tears. She took his right hand and smiled softly. "Dad, don't cry. Cute doesn't want to see you like this."
Watching their exchange stirred something within me; they truly were a pair of unfortunate souls. Their sorrow reminded me of another father-daughter duo—Liu Zhenxian and He Ying.
Liu Zhenxian had cultivated himself to the level of Eternal Ghost King; he could manifest his ghostly form whenever he wished to see He Ying. In contrast, Chen Mengmeng was merely a newly departed soul who couldn't solidify her spirit without my assistance.
However, their bond was far stronger than that of Liu Zhenxian and He Ying. Having been away for so long, I wondered how those two were faring now.
Lost in thought, Wu Jie approached me and nudged my arm gently. "Jiang Ling, can't you let them spend a little more time together?"
Zhao Sanbao was the only one who couldn't see Chen Mengmeng, but he noticed Master Chen's sorrowful expression and spoke up, "Jiang Ling, they are so pitiful. Can't you let them wait a little longer?"
I glanced at Zhao Sanbao and Wu Jie, shaking my head without hesitation. "It's not that I don't want them to be together, but Master Chen's Yang Qi is too strong. When he couldn't see Chen Mengmeng, his Yang Qi couldn't harm her. Now that he can see her, his Yang Qi will inadvertently hurt her. Chen Mengmeng's soul is too weak; if this goes on for too long, she might completely dissipate."
Wu Jie furrowed his brows and asked in confusion, "Jiang Ling, that's strange. I've always been able to see Chen Mengmeng. Why hasn't my Yang Qi harmed Cute?"
I explained, "Wu Jie, you've already opened your Wisdom Eye, which means you're half a step into the Daoist Sect. Therefore, your Yang Qi has become restrained and won't disperse from your body, so it naturally can't harm Chen Mengmeng."
I spoke loudly enough for Master Chen to hear me clearly. Ten minutes passed quickly. Master Chen gently stroked Chen Mengmeng's head, wiped away his tears, and smiled at her. "Cute, don't worry. Daddy will live well. Every year during the Ghost Festival, I will wait for you at home. You can go with peace of mind."
"Daddy, I don't want to leave you! I don't want to!" Chen Mengmeng said reluctantly as she held onto Master Chen's hand. Seeing her expression made Master Chen's tears well up again. He turned his head away and nodded at me politely. "Master Jiang Ling, please help send Cute to the Underworld for reincarnation. Thank you."
I nodded and secretly mobilized the Buddhist Power within me. Then I quietly sat in front of Chen Mengmeng, pressed my palms together, and solemnly recited: "All Things Have Spirits, All Things Have Souls. All Things Have Fate; All Lives Have an End; Do Not Be Attached to the Mortal World. Born in the Mortal Realm; Return to the Underworld. All Things Have Causes; In the Next Life, There Will Be Consequences. Namo Amitabha Buddha!"
My Buddhist Power had reached a great level; I no longer needed the Longevity Lamp's assistance to easily guide souls. However, since Chen Mengmeng had lost a soul and a spirit, I recited the Buddhist Scriptures for the Departed over a dozen times before I could cleanse her lingering resentment and forcibly send her into the Underworld.
Only with the help of the Underworld Deities would Chen Mengmeng have a chance to cultivate a new soul and spirit before being reincarnated. However, all of this depended on her own fortune.
Once Master Chen saw that Chen Mengmeng's soul had been sent away, the blood-red hue in his eyes faded. He wiped away his tears and a glimmer of light flashed in his eyes; the despair that had once enveloped him vanished as well. He clasped his fists in gratitude towards me and said earnestly, "Master Jiang Ling, thank you! If you ever need my help in the future, just let me know."
I quickly helped him up and smiled back at him. "Master Chen, you're too polite; this is what I should do."
Time passed swiftly, and before long it was seven in the evening. The sun had set, and darkness began to envelop the outside world.
They had asked around all the shops, but they couldn't find the owner of the withered arms. Now, the group returned to the scene of the incident. Huang Ping noticed that the sky was getting darker, and his expression turned worried.
"Yellow Team, look at that person! His hands look just like those in the video!" Suddenly, one of the officers beside Huang Ping shouted excitedly. Huang Ping's heart raced as he followed the officer's gaze and saw a pair of withered arms come into view.
A smile crept onto Huang Ping's lips as he waved his hand and said, "Finally found him! Brothers, let's go after him and don't let him escape!"
