At eight in the morning, I followed He Ying out for breakfast and also bought some yellow paper for drawing talismans. By the time we returned to the shop, it was nearly nine o'clock.
He Ying moved a clever little table out from inside the shop, where she placed the cinnabar and brush used for drawing talismans.
"Jiang Ling, wait a moment. I'll be quick. I'll have this yellow paper cut in no time," He Ying said as she laid out the large sheets of yellow paper on the table. She quietly sat beside it and began to carefully cut the paper into the standard size for Taoist Talismans.
Watching He Ying's skilled movements, I couldn't help but shake my head in disbelief and said, "He Ying, you're being too stingy. Those cut talisman papers only cost about a hundred bucks. With all that effort, you might as well find a way to sell another talisman."
"It's easy for you to say. Where am I supposed to find someone to buy talismans? Since I'm idle anyway, I might as well cut them myself and consider it extra income," He Ying replied without even looking up, her hands moving increasingly smoothly. After three or four minutes, she had cut out more than thirty suitable sheets of talisman paper.
Seeing that He Ying hadn't made a single mistake from start to finish, I nodded in admiration of her skill. I didn't just stand by; I took the stack of talisman paper in my hands, dipped the brush on the table into the cinnabar, and began crafting a talisman.
As I held the brush, I infused a strand of Daoist Magic into it. The brush's handle emitted a faint white light, and the cinnabar at its tip gained an extra touch of spirituality.
"Wow, I didn't expect this brush to be a magical tool," I murmured in surprise as I glanced down at it.
Normally, when a Taoist Master creates talismans with a brush, they would infuse a strand of Daoist Magic into it first. Then, using the brush as a conduit, they would blend that magic into the cinnabar and further seal it within the finished talisman.
The reason my brush had transformed into a magical tool was simply that it had crafted thousands of talismans over time, accumulating so much Daoist Magic that it naturally became an enchanted tool.
However, this brush would only save some magical energy while drawing talismans; it didn't have any significant power beyond that.
I held my breath to focus my attention and quickly brought down my right hand with the brush. In just a few swift strokes, I drew a low-level talisman.
He Ying placed the cut talisman paper in front of me and happened to see my actions. Raising an eyebrow in suspicion, she said, "Jiang Ling, the Taoist Masters who came before weren't like you. They took at least a minute to draw their talismans. You barely took ten seconds; you’re not trying to fool me, are you?"
I glanced at He Ying with a smirk, my hands still busy with the task at hand. "He Ying, don't compare me to those previous Taoist Masters. I'm a true expert, and of course, I can draw talismans faster than they could."
The Taoist Masters who had come before to draw talismans for He Ying were just ordinary practitioners from the Mu Qiufeng Taoist Temple. My Daoist Magic had reached the pinnacle of True Master, so naturally, I was not comparable to them.
"Heh, keep boasting. I'll pretend I didn't hear that," He Ying replied with a cold laugh, lowering her head to continue cutting the talismans.
"Believe it or not," I shook my head and said, then focused back on making Taoist Talismans.
After about two hours, I had turned all the yellow paper I bought into Taoist Talismans, drawing nearly six hundred of them. Most were Exorcism Talismans and Calming Talismans. I also created a few rare ones, like talismans that could immobilize corpses and those that could temporarily open Yin-Yang Eyes.
With my explanation, He Ying neatly arranged the talismans on the shelves in the shop and even labeled them with their names.
Once everything was set up, it was already twelve-thirty in the afternoon. Feeling a bit hungry, I pulled He Ying out for lunch.
After locking up the shop, He Ying walked alongside me, her brow furrowed with concern. "Jiang Ling, do you think anyone will come to buy talismans today?"
I patted my chest confidently. "He Ying, don't worry; there will definitely be people coming to buy them. Even if no one shows up, I'll find a way to sell these talismans."
Having witnessed my skills yesterday, He Ying still held some hope for me. However, given the unusual circumstances of yesterday, she was skeptical about today's business since not a single talisman had been sold in the morning.
After a moment of silence, she finally nodded but remained half-convinced. "Jiang Ling, I hope you're not lying to me. You've drawn so many talismans today; if no one comes to buy them, you can just go home. I don't have any money to pay you."
Seeing He Ying's nonchalant expression as she spoke made my heart sink a little. I couldn't help but pout. "He Ying, your speed in burning bridges is too fast."
Without a hint of awkwardness, He Ying smiled at me and said, "Heh, to thank you for your contributions, I'll treat you to lunch today. Just order whatever you want."
I shook my head in silence, not saying much more. I was just quietly thinking about ordering some expensive dishes for lunch, like shark fin soup and Buddha Jumps Over the Wall.
As expected, He Ying was still the same He Ying. She never disappointed me. She pointed to a fast food restaurant by the roadside and smiled, "Jiang Ling, that fast food place is pretty good. Twenty bucks is enough; you can take whatever dishes you want, and eat as much as you like."
He Ying completely disregarded my grim expression. She grabbed my hand and led me straight into the fast food restaurant.
While we were eating, a group of over ten young people arrived outside He Ying's shop. They glanced at the address displayed on their phones and then compared it with the shop's door number.
The group exchanged looks, and one of them spoke up, "Wu Jie gave us the right address; this is the place that sells talismans."
Someone scanned the shop's environment and remarked disdainfully, "This shop is a bit too shabby; it looks so simple. If we hadn't known in advance that they sell talismans here, I would have never noticed this place."
These people had watched Wu Jie's live stream last night and had seen the power of those talismans. Since they lived nearby, they had specially formed a team to come over.
Of course, there were others on their way to He Ying's shop as well, but those people were farther away and a bit slower.
