I took out the Longevity Lamp from my backpack, lit it, and placed it at the stairway. Then, with my hands clasped together and a solemn expression, I recited, "All Things Have Spirits, All Things Have Souls. All Things Have Fate, All Lives Have an End. Do Not Be Attached to the Mortal World. Born in the Mortal Realm, Return to the Underworld. All Things Have Causes, In the Next Life, There Will Be Consequences. Namo Amitabha Buddha!"
Previously, I had performed a rite for a Ghost Bird and knew that the Rebirth Sutra I was chanting could break the seals on them. So I secretly channeled my Buddhist Power to amplify the sound of the Rebirth Sutra, allowing it to reach further.
"Chirp chirp~~" The group of Hummingbirds heard my chanting and responded with excited calls. They flapped their wings and all flew to the stairway, quietly listening to the Rebirth Sutra.
"Trash Fish, get out of here!" a ghostly face shouted at the Hummingbirds. It wanted to stop everything from happening and aimed to drive the Hummingbirds out of the room.
Unfortunately, under the cleansing power of the Buddhist Scriptures for the Departed, the connection between it and the Hummingbirds was gradually fading. The Hummingbirds were slowly breaking free from its control.
"Chirp chirp~~" One Millennium Ghost Bird glanced impatiently at the ghostly face. It flapped its wings and sent the fabric hiding the ghostly face flying away.
The ghostly face was merely a projection of a fragment of its soul; its power was equivalent to that of a newly trained Soul. Under the casual attack from the Millennium Ghost Bird, the ghostly face on the fabric became illusory, as if it would collapse at any moment.
"Damn it! You little brat, stop right now!" The ghostly face roared as its soul began to twist. Within two or three breaths, that ghostly face completely shattered and vanished without a trace.
At that moment, a violent tremor shook the large tree in the forest. The fruits on it exploded, transforming into strands of Black Ghostly Aura.
"What’s happening? Why are the Yinling Flower's fruits exploding?"
"This isn't right! These are fake fruits! Everyone run!"
"No! Hurry up and run!"
The group of Ghostly Beings standing atop the tree realized something was wrong and turned to flee, trying to escape from that large tree.
At that moment, a ghostly face appeared on the trunk. Its expression was fierce, and its hollow eyes were fixed on a building deeper in the forest. The ghostly face let out a roar, shouting, "Ah! You brat, you’ve hurt me twice! I will definitely kill you!"
"Once I devour this group of Trash Fish and train more Ghost Birds, I will come for you! Just wait." With that, the ghostly face turned its gaze toward the group of Ghostly Beings before it. An overwhelming killing intent radiated from it as it controlled those Eerie Auras, enveloping all the Ghostly Beings within and beginning to absorb their power.
Inside the Building, I was unaware of what was happening outside. Sitting on the stairs, I recited the Buddhist Scriptures for the Departed nearly twenty times, and finally broke the seal on the group of Hummingbirds.
“Chirp chirp~~ Ah ah~~” The Hummingbirds emitted a strange cacophony, sometimes sounding like birds and other times like human voices, creating an eerie atmosphere.
After a while, their bodies began to twist, and wisps of Black Ghostly Aura emerged from them, enveloping their forms completely.
Through the Eerie Aura, I could vaguely see the Hummingbirds' bodies expanding, gradually transforming into human shapes. I put away the Longevity Lamp in front of me, wiped the sweat from my forehead, and let out a long breath. “Phew, it seems to have worked.”
“Help! Someone save me!”
“Ah! No, stop! Please stop!”
At that moment, I suddenly heard desperate cries for help coming from the second floor. Sitting at the stairway entrance, the voices were clearer this time. However, what caught my attention was that this time I only heard a girl's voice; all others had fallen silent.
“They can’t all be dead, can they?” My brow furrowed as an ominous premonition gripped me. I quickly drew the Rusty Sword from my side and rushed up to the second floor.
After three or four minutes, the Eerie Aura at the stairway dissipated completely, and the Hummingbirds transformed back into human forms. Their faces lit up with ecstatic expressions as they danced and shouted in joy.
“Ah, I’m finally back! I’m finally free!”
“Haha, I’m free again! Free at last!”
“I want to leave this place, escape this strange forest!”
Once the Ghostly Beings regained their human forms, they cheered for just a few seconds before turning and sprinting toward the Building's entrance without a hint of hesitation. They seemed utterly uninterested in what lay above in the Building; instead, their eyes were filled with fear as they desperately sought to escape.
“Phew~~” Just as the group of Ghostly Beings reached the Building's door, a violent gust of cold wind swept through the first floor. Some fabric was lifted into the air and quickly flew toward them.
"Hehe, since you're here, don't be in such a hurry to leave! Stay and play with me!" A chilling laughter echoed from the first floor, coming from the direction of the staircase leading to the second floor. Strangely, there was no one at the staircase, and when I rushed up, I didn't encounter anyone.
"Please! No! Have mercy on us!"
"Let us go! We won't tell anyone!"
The group of Ghostly Beings recognized the owner of that voice, and their fear intensified. They trembled uncontrollably. Oddly enough, the exit of the Building was right before them, yet none dared to run out.
"Hehe, don't be afraid. My brother is a bad person; he turned you into Ghost Birds. I won't do that." The eerie voice continued, and at that moment, pieces of fabric flew in front of the Ghostly Beings, forming a circle around them and trapping them in the center.
"Hehe, I don't like Ghost Birds. I'll keep you all and turn you into my favorite pictures!" The sinister voice sounded casual. As soon as he finished speaking, the fabric suddenly wrapped around the Ghostly Beings, pulling them into its folds.
Everything happened quickly and ended just as fast. In less than a minute, all the Ghostly Beings were sealed within the fabric, which then returned to its original place. The first floor fell silent again as if nothing had happened.
I was unaware of what transpired downstairs. By this time, I had reached the second floor of the Building, and before me was the staircase leading to the third floor. An enticing fragrance wafted down from the third-floor staircase; it was the unique scent of Yinling Flower fruit.
