On the other side, I took a short break before following the traces left by the Ghostly Beings deeper into the forest.
After about twenty minutes, I finally reached my destination—a three-story Building that felt quite eerie to me.
"What’s going on? Why is there a house here? Could there be Living Persons inside?" I furrowed my brow, gripping my Demon-Subduing Staff tightly as I slowly approached the Building.
The three-story Building appeared somewhat dilapidated, with many cracks in the walls and green vines covering the interior, resembling a haunted house from a horror movie.
"Chirp chirp~~" Just as I reached the entrance of the Building, I suddenly heard several bird calls from above. Looking up, I discovered a swarm of Hummingbirds hiding among the vines.
The Hummingbirds glared at me with unfriendly eyes, and a few of them flew down from their perch, darting toward me. Startled, I felt goosebumps rise all over my body.
"Damn it, this can’t be the nest of Ghost Birds!" I thought to myself in alarm. Turning to look around, I realized there was no way to retreat. Gritting my teeth, I pushed open the large door of the Building, quickly slipping inside.
"Chirp chirp~~" After seeing me rush into the Building, the Hummingbirds circled around the door a few times before returning to rest quietly on the vines.
In the Ghost Realm, some areas connect with the Yang Realm, and this forest is one of them.
Due to the presence of Yinling Flowers, the space within this forest is somewhat chaotic; things from the Yang Realm can suddenly intrude into the Ghost Realm, and spirits from within the forest can unexpectedly appear in the Yang Realm.
The three-story Building before me had been forcibly pulled into this forest. However, once all the fruits of the Yinling Flowers ripen and space returns to normal, this Building will be sent back out of the Ghost Realm to its original location.
"What kind of place is this!" As I stepped inside the Building, I saw that the first floor was draped with colorful fabrics that obstructed my view and stirred an inexplicable irritation within me.
Holding my Demon-Subduing Staff, I pushed aside one piece of fabric and walked slowly into the room. My only desire was to find the staircase leading to the second floor and escape this strange room.
"This is odd. These fabrics are all new; they shouldn’t be here in the Ghost Realm." After walking for a while, I sensed something was off about this Building. What concerned me more was that despite being inside for so long, I hadn’t encountered a single Ghostly Being—this was quite unusual.
"Could it be that those Ghostly Beings haven’t come here?" I muttered to myself as my pace remained steady while I continued searching for the staircase.
Suddenly, a series of hurried footsteps echoed above me—someone was running on the second floor, and it sounded like more than one person.
"Help! Someone save us!"
"Ah! Don't kill me! Please, spare us!"
"Ah! I don't want to die! Is anyone there to save me?"
I heard a cacophony of desperate cries coming from the second floor, a mix of male and female voices. Their tones were filled with despair, as if something was chasing them.
"Could these people be Living Persons? How did they end up here?" I furrowed my brow, a vague suspicion forming in my mind, but I wasn't sure. The only way to uncover the truth was to check the second floor.
"Woo~~" Just as I was distracted, a chilling wail suddenly echoed behind me. A cold breeze swept through my body, and I felt a hand resting on my shoulder, sending chills down my spine.
"Amitabha! You will die!" I stammered in fear, gripping the Demon-Subduing Staff in my hand and instinctively sweeping it behind me.
Strangely, the Demon-Subduing Staff struck nothing; there was only emptiness behind me. Yet, the hand on my shoulder remained.
I took a deep breath to suppress my rising panic and forced myself to calm down. A fierce glint flashed in my eyes as I muttered to myself, "I must see who you are!"
I pulled out a blank talisman and bit my finger, quickly drawing Daoist Sect runes while chanting: "Supreme Three Pure Ones, Limitless Magic! Tower Suppressing Demons, Divine Talisman to Exterminate Ghosts! Evil Spirit Emergence, Undying! Evil-Repelling Talisman, Restoration of the Dead! Lingling, Earth Spirit, Supreme Old Lord, hasten forth as commanded! Soul-Settling Talisman, command!"
As soon as I finished speaking, the Soul-Settling Talisman was completed. Without hesitation, I pressed it against the hand on my shoulder.
The moment the Soul-Settling Talisman touched that hand, it ignited spontaneously. A White Dao Light burst forth from the talisman, piercing through the hand and flying backward.
"Ah! No!" A scream erupted behind me just then, and the hand on my shoulder vanished. I let out a sigh of relief and turned to look behind me.
"Huh? What is this?" I saw a piece of red fabric that concealed a ghostly figure within. The Soul-Settling Talisman had pierced through that ghostly figure, revealing its true form.
Glancing at the left hand of the Ghostly Being, I noticed it had been pierced by the Dao Light and still bore traces of the Soul-Settling Talisman’s aura. I was now certain that it was this Ghostly Being that had frightened me moments ago.
This Ghostly Being had been hiding beneath the fabric, merely resting its hand on my shoulder; no wonder my Demon-Subduing Staff hadn't hit it.
"That startled me; it turned out to be just a Vengeful Spirit. The Ghost Realm is not a place for you; let me send you to reincarnation!" I shook my head, my left hand forming the Daoist Spell, and raised my hand to strike the fabric in front of me, directly forcing the Vengeful Spirit out from within.
"Get in here!" At that moment, I took out a talisman, my left hand still holding the Spell, and with my right hand, I gestured towards the Vengeful Spirit, quickly sealing it inside the talisman. Since I was still in the Ghost Realm, I could only send this Vengeful Spirit to reincarnation after leaving; for now, it was best to keep it contained within the talisman.
"Woo~~" Just as I secured the talisman, a chilling wail echoed throughout the entire first floor. A gust of cold wind swept through, causing all the fabrics to tremble. I noticed faint ghostly figures lurking on those fabrics.
Seeing those ghostly figures made me frown deeply as I thought, "No way! Are those Ghostly Beings hiding within these fabrics?"
"Help me! Please, save me!"
"Master, save me! I am willing to serve you! Please!"
"Help me! Help me!"
The ghostly figures cried out in unison, their expressions filled with agony as if they had suffered torment. Some fabrics even contained three or four ghostly figures squeezed together; their bodies were mangled—some had limbs severed, while others were left with only their heads. It was a gruesome sight that made my scalp tingle.
