The Ghostly Beings gazed greedily at the Yinling Flowers before them, yet none dared to rush forward to pluck the fruits.
Among them was the Faceless Ghost General, a leader among this group of Ghostly Beings. His cultivation ranked within the top three, but his appearance was rather terrifying; his entire face was missing, exposing raw, bloody flesh beneath, which looked particularly gruesome.
The Faceless Ghost General naturally extended his right hand and scratched at his face a few times, tearing off chunks of raw meat that revealed the bones underneath. However, there was no sign of pain in his eyes; instead, he wore an expression of enjoyment as he tossed the raw meat into his mouth, chewing heartily. He then casually spoke, “Everyone, the fruits of the Yinling Flower are right before us. The question now is how we shall divide these fruits!”
His gaze met those of the other leaders from various factions, their eyes glinting with cunning. No one knew what schemes were brewing in their minds.
Wanjiang Ghost Hand, whose cultivation had just reached the level of Nine-Thousand-Year Ghost General, was among the weakest of the leaders present. He stepped forward and spoke loudly, “Everyone, when we formed our alliance earlier and destroyed the dead tree, we all contributed equally. However, my subordinates suffered the heaviest losses during the ambush by the Ghost Birds; they accounted for half of my casualties. Therefore, I believe I should receive an extra hundred fruits from the Yinling Flower!”
“Hah! Wanjiang Ghost Hand, your subordinates were killed by those Ghost Birds because their cultivation was too weak; that’s not our concern!” scoffed another Nine-Thousand-Year Cultivation Ghost General known as Thousand-Layer Bug. He was a soul of a monster that had died and belonged to a rare category of Ghostly Beings.
Thousand-Layer Bug scanned everyone with a calm demeanor and said, “I’m a straightforward person and won’t waste words. Let’s simply divide these Yinling Flower fruits equally. No one should think about taking advantage; you must understand that if the Greedy Moon Demon King and his crew come in here, we won’t be able to decide what happens to these fruits!”
Upon hearing Thousand-Layer Bug’s analysis, the expressions of the faction leaders turned serious. Their brows furrowed as they began weighing their options in silence.
After a while, they exchanged glances and shared opinions among themselves. The leader with the highest cultivation level among them, a Millennium Ghost General, nodded and said, “If we’re going to divide it equally, then let’s do it! If no one has objections, let’s get started!”
The faction leaders nodded in agreement and pointed at the branches laden with fruits on the great tree as they began to delineate their territories. Someone shouted out, “The layer of Yinling Flower fruits on the east side belongs to me, Faceless Ghost General!”
“The western section is mine, Thousand-Layer Bug!”
“The central position will be claimed by me, Wanjiang Ghost Hand!”
After three or four minutes, the Ghostly Beings had divided their territories and flew towards the large tree with their subordinates.
The weaker Vengeful Spirits reached out to pluck the fruits from the tree. As they inhaled the fragrant aroma emanating from the fruits, their emotions became incredibly agitated, and their gazes turned dazed.
"Haha, we have easily snatched the Yinling Flower's fruits this time. We are truly fortunate!" The Vengeful Spirits trembled as they clutched the fruits in their hands, secretly thinking, "As long as I swallow this Yinling Flower fruit, my cultivation will surely advance further. I will definitely ascend to Millennium Ghost General! I can do it!"
As the Vengeful Spirits caught the scent of the Yinling Flower fruit, their minds suddenly became scattered, as if they were entranced. A red light flickered in their eyes, and without any hesitation, they swallowed the fruits in their hands.
Everything happened too quickly; in just two or three seconds, the Vengeful Spirits had consumed the fruits without giving the Millennium Ghost Generals supervising them a chance to intervene.
Upon noticing the unusual behavior, the Millennium Ghost Generals rushed over, shouting loudly, "What are you doing? Do you want to die? Spit it out now!"
The Millennium Ghost Generals summoned their Eerie Aura and formed their respective weapons. Without any mercy, they wielded their weapons and slaughtered the Vengeful Spirits.
"Ah! No!" The Vengeful Spirits screamed in agony as their bodies were cleaved in half. Clarity returned to their eyes, but it was already too late; they had no chance of survival.
After the souls of the Vengeful Spirits vanished, walnut-sized fruits fell from their bodies and floated in mid-air.
Seeing this scene, the Millennium Ghost Generals breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Fortunately, these fruits were not digested! We still have a chance to reclaim these Yinling Flower fruits!"
The number of Millennium Ghost Generals was only one-fifth that of the Vengeful Spirits. After slaying the first batch of Vengeful Spirits, the remaining ones scattered in a panic, swiftly trying to escape from the large tree.
"Ah! Why do you want to kill us! These Yinling Flowers' fruits were picked by us; why can't we eat them? I refuse to accept this! I want to leave here; I don't want to die!" The Vengeful Spirits let out a loud roar, and at that moment, a dark Black Ghostly Aura erupted from their bodies. The Eerie Aura transformed into a pair of wings behind them.
With a flap of their wings, the Vengeful Spirits increased their speed significantly, becoming mere shadows as they dashed deeper into the forest.
"Don't run! Stop right there!" shouted the Millennium Ghost Generals. They summoned the Eerie Aura within them and quickly pursued the Vengeful Spirits. However, their speed was just slightly slower, making it impossible for them to catch up in that moment.
Although the group of Vengeful Spirits scattered in all directions, they all fled toward the deeper parts of the forest, as if something there was calling out to them.
"Chirp chirp~~" The Vengeful Spirits emitted a series of crisp bird-like sounds from their mouths, but they were unaware of it. Even the Millennium Ghost Generals chasing them did not notice this anomaly; they assumed it was the sound made by a hidden Ghost Bird and paid it no mind.
After two or three minutes, both the fleeing Vengeful Spirits and their pursuers, the Millennium Ghost Generals, had left, leaving only the leaders of their factions behind at the original spot.
They gazed in the direction where the Vengeful Spirits had escaped, their eyes sparkling with excitement.
The Faceless Ghost General wore a chilling smile as he said, "This Yinling Flower is extraordinary! Just one fruit can grant a Vengeful Spirit speed surpassing that of a Millennium Ghost General. It truly opens my eyes!"
