We three watched as Bloody Wolf and Stinky Wolf left with their subordinates, not making any move to stop them. There were two reasons for letting Bloody Wolf and Stinky Wolf go.
First, if the three of us had engaged in a fierce battle with Bloody Wolf and Stinky Wolf, although we would likely emerge victorious, we would inevitably sustain some minor injuries. This would affect our subsequent actions and allow others to take advantage of the situation.
Second, while Bloody Wolf and Stinky Wolf had gained the upper hand by entering the eerie forest before us, they also took on the role of scouts, which was something we were quite pleased to see.
I noticed that all of Bloody Wolf and Stinky Wolf's group had entered the forest. Before long, they disappeared from my sight. I felt a bit anxious upon seeing one shadow and said, "White-Haired Daoist, Corpse Control Shaman, should we follow them in? The sooner we enter, the better our chances!"
Bai Bufan shook his head, his expression calm as he replied, "Demon Mask King, there's no need to rush. Let's wait a little longer."
Shen Chunlan walked over to me, patting my shoulder with a smile. "Demon Mask King, the Yinling Flower isn't so easy to obtain. Just wait and listen for their cries of despair!"
"Alright!" I nodded, abandoning the idea of following Bloody Wolf and Stinky Wolf into the forest. After all, Bai Bufan and Shen Chunlan were experienced; I chose to trust their judgment.
In that strange forest, Bloody Wolf and Stinky Wolf led their subordinates deeper inside for over a hundred meters before finally stopping.
Due to the narrow gaps within the forest, all of Bloody Wolf and Stinky Wolf's group stood scattered apart from each other, with at least one dead tree between them.
Bloody Wolf turned around to scan his subordinates behind him. The dim light in the forest made it difficult for him to see all of them clearly. He frowned and shouted loudly, "Listen up! I'm about to resurrect Blood Wolf Boss. You all stand guard on the side; keep your eyes peeled and don't let anyone get close to me!"
"Don't worry, Boss Bloody Wolf! We won't let anyone near you!" his subordinates responded in unison. They methodically spread out, forming a protective circle around Bloody Wolf while vigilantly watching their surroundings.
Seeing his subordinates' actions, Bloody Wolf nodded in satisfaction. He then removed his clothing, revealing his bare upper body.
Bloody Wolf bit his tongue and spat a mouthful of dark ghostly blood onto his chest. The blood writhed on his chest before quickly transforming into a blood-red wolf head that looked incredibly lifelike.
A smile appeared on Bloody Wolf's face as he reached out to stroke the wolf pattern on his chest. "Brother, you can come out now!"
Blood Wolf and Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf are not actually twins; they are the same person, known as Blood Wolf, the Evil Wolf.
During his adventures in the Ghost Realm, Bloody Wolf encountered a perverse Taoist who struck him down, cleaving him in two but sparing his life, allowing him to survive on his own.
Though severed, Bloody Wolf clung to life with fierce determination and cultivated two spirits.
As the saying goes, "Surviving great calamity brings future blessings."
After cultivating the two spirits, Bloody Wolf acquired a powerful skill: as long as both spirits were not destroyed simultaneously, he could not die and could be resurrected infinitely.
This is Bloody Wolf's true trump card and the reason he could establish a power deep within the Ghost Realm. However, outsiders only know that they possess immortality without understanding the specifics.
A howl echoed from Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf's chest, and the wolf tattoo there began to twist. A claw tore open his chest, revealing bloody bones within, while Blood Wolf gradually emerged from inside him, creating a gruesome scene.
After three or four minutes, Blood Wolf finally emerged from Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf's chest. He stretched his body and used the Eerie Aura within him to form a set of clothes to cover his bare skin.
Once revived, Blood Wolf looked at Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf with sincere gratitude and said, “Thank you!”
“Why be so polite? We are essentially the same person; there’s no need for such formality!” replied Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf, sounding somewhat weak. The wound on his chest was still exposed; although the Eerie Aura was gradually healing it, full recovery would take at least three or four hours.
After putting on his clothes to cover the injury, Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf feigned indifference and asked, “Now that we’ve entered this forest, what should we do?”
Blood Wolf scanned the forest with keen eyes. He sniffed the air and a glimmer of excitement crossed his face as he smiled and exclaimed, “The fragrance in the air is definitely that of the Yinling Flower! It seems they have bloomed here! If we follow this scent, we can find the Yinling Flower!”
Nodding in agreement with Blood Wolf, Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf called out to his subordinates nearby with enthusiasm: “Brothers! Now that Blood Wolf Boss has been revived, let’s continue deeper into the forest!”
With that, Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf and Blood Wolf moved to the front of their group and pressed onward into the woods.
Blood Wolf walked forward for a while, then suddenly glanced back, his expression turning serious. He exchanged a look with Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf and said, "Hey? Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf, have you noticed that it seems like we’re missing some of our subordinates!"
The reason Blood Wolf sensed something was off was entirely due to his exceptional hearing. The forest was quiet, and after walking for only a short distance, he noticed the footsteps behind him were growing fewer. It seemed that every few seconds, one set of footsteps would vanish.
"Could it be? I’ll go check!" Upon hearing Blood Wolf's words, Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf quickly scanned the area behind him. The light in the forest was dim, so he even made a point to walk over to where his subordinates were and counted them carefully.
After a while, Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf returned to Blood Wolf's side, his face darkened to an extreme. He spoke coldly, "There’s something strange in this forest, Blood Wolf. We’ve lost seventy-five subordinates, and there was also a Millennium Ghost. When I counted earlier, it was right there, but when I came back, it suddenly disappeared!"
Blood Wolf nodded. He opened his palm to reveal a thumb-sized Hummingbird. The Hummingbird had a sharp beak and emitted an aura comparable to that of a Century Ghost.
"This Ghost Bird is what I just caught. It tried to ambush me from behind but I managed to grab it!" Blood Wolf pointed to his back where a wound had been pecked out by the Hummingbird, revealing even the bones beneath his skin.
"This wound was caused by this Ghost Bird. If it weren't for my keen hearing, I might have been pierced from behind!" Though he felt a bit shaken inside, Blood Wolf did not show it. Instead, he raised the captured Hummingbird and displayed it to his subordinates, saying, "Everyone don’t be afraid! This Ghost Bird has already been caught; you don’t need to worry about being ambushed anymore!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a glint of killing intent flashed in his eyes. He clenched his hand tightly around the Hummingbird, crushing it into bits. A faint Eerie Aura flowed from his fingertips.
Seeing the Hummingbird destroyed, his subordinates let out a long sigh of relief and shouted in unison, "Blood Wolf Boss is mighty! Invincible in battle! The number one in the Ghost Realm!"
Suddenly, a sharp bird call echoed through the forest. A flock of Hummingbirds flew overhead, glaring fiercely at Blood Wolf and his group. There were at least fifty or sixty of them.
These Hummingbirds had been hiding in the dead trees above; their small size allowed them to remain unnoticed. When they saw their companion killed by Blood Wolf, they finally took flight.
"How can there be so many Ghost Birds!?" Seeing the flock hovering above him made Blood Wolf's head spin. Although these Hummingbirds couldn’t kill him directly, if they ambushed his subordinates from the shadows, it would surely spell disaster.
Taking a deep breath to force himself to calm down, Blood Wolf quickly devised a plan. He waved his hand at his subordinates and shouted loudly, "Everyone run! Get out of the forest!"
"Run! I don’t want to be eaten by these Ghost Birds! Dying like this would be too humiliating!"
"Once we leave this forest, we'll be safe! Everyone, run!"
The subordinates of Blood Wolf dared not linger; they rushed out of the woods in a panic, leaving only Blood Wolf and Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf standing still. They had not yet escaped.
Blood Wolf and Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf exchanged glances. With a determined expression, Blood Wolf said, "Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf, you go first. I'll check inside the forest alone! As long as you're alive, I won't be in any danger!"
Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf shook his head and replied, "Blood Wolf, you take our subordinates out first. I'm too weak right now to maintain control outside. It's better for you to go while I check inside the forest!"
The two were essentially one person; their thoughts were closely aligned, yet there was a slight difference. They stared at each other for a few seconds before Blood Wolf nodded. He reached out and patted Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf on the shoulder and said, "Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf, be careful! Make sure to come back safely!"
"Don't worry, Blood Wolf. I know what I'm doing!" After exchanging a few more words, they parted ways. Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf continued deeper into the forest in search of the Yinling Flower, while Blood Wolf headed toward the forest's edge to ensure the safety of his subordinates.
"Chirp chirp~~" The group of Hummingbirds emitted frantic calls. Upon seeing their prey begin to flee, they wasted no time transforming into gray shadows and charged toward the Ghostly Beings.
"Ah! It hurts! Damn Ghost Bird, get away from me!"
"Ah! No! I don't want to die here!"
"Blood Wolf Boss! Bloody Wolf, Stinky Wolf! Help!"
The cries of anguish echoed among the Ghostly Beings. Despite knowing that the Hummingbirds would attack and preparing their defenses, they were unable to withstand the ferocity of the Hummingbirds' assault.
Although the cultivation level of the Hummingbirds was only at the Vengeful Spirit tier, their movements were unhindered in such a narrow space. They often appeared suddenly behind the Ghostly Beings and struck at their vital points.
For those Vengeful Spirits with low cultivation levels, just two Hummingbirds could easily kill them. Even those Ghostly Beings who had reached the Millennium Ghost General level faced certain death when ambushed by a dozen Hummingbirds.
"Chirp chirp~~" The Hummingbirds chirped joyfully as they had just eliminated seven Ghosts, five of which were Millennium Ghost Generals, without sustaining any injuries themselves.
"Ghost Bird, you all want to die, huh!" Blood Wolf had caught up with his subordinates just in time to witness the scene of their annihilation. His expression turned furious as he gathered his Eerie Aura to form a Mountain Cleaver, swinging it towards the group of Hummingbirds.
"Blade of Execution, the deadly axe! Demon Wolf Blade, Mountain-Splitting Ghost Axe, appear!" Blood Wolf summoned all the Eerie Aura within him, causing the Mountain Cleaver to extend over two meters in length and half a meter in width, emanating a dark Eerie Aura that looked incredibly intimidating.
"Die, all of you!" Blood Wolf shouted as he swung the ghostly axe at the Hummingbirds in mid-air, directly slaying more than half of them. The remaining Hummingbirds let out a panicked cacophony and flew higher into the sky.
The reason Blood Wolf chose to use his Eerie Aura instead of his curved blade was that his Eerie Aura had a longer attack range but was significantly more powerful than the curved blade. If he had used the curved blade against the Hummingbirds, not a single one would have escaped.
"Not wiping them all out has caused trouble!" Blood Wolf shook his head in disappointment, muttering to himself. His previous strike had been his strongest attack and had already consumed sixty percent of his Eerie Aura; he could not unleash such an attack again for the time being.
Blood Wolf discreetly dissipated the Eerie Aura in his hand, making the enormous Mountain Cleaver vanish. He waved at his subordinates and shouted loudly, "These Hummingbirds have been intimidated by me; everyone hurry and run outside!"
With that, Blood Wolf's body flickered as he transformed into an afterimage, quickly dashing towards the edge of the trees. Just moments ago, he had sensed a life-threatening danger, as if something was targeting him.
Suddenly, a loud call echoed from deep within the forest, and a massive figure burst forth from the trees, chasing after Blood Wolf's fleeing form.
