Time passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye, two hours had gone by.
During this time, I, along with Xu Qing and the others, found seven strongholds of Vengeful Spirits. Among them, only three still had Vengeful Spirits present; the other four had long been destroyed by someone else.
Once I unleashed the power of Dog Treasure at those three Vengeful Spirit strongholds, they were easily subdued. Unbeknownst to me, I had amassed nearly a hundred Vengeful Spirit subordinates behind me, which was already a formidable force.
However, my subordinates lacked any Millennium Ghost Generals; they were merely low-level Vengeful Spirits. In the Ghost Realm, this small force was hardly significant.
I furrowed my brow and rubbed my chin with my right hand, contemplating how to recruit a few powerful Ghostly Beings. This way, I could navigate deeper into the Ghost Realm with more confidence.
I turned to Xu Qing beside me and asked, "Xu Qing, do you know if there are any Ghost General strongholds nearby?"
"Uh?!" Xu Qing was momentarily taken aback by my question, his expression becoming somewhat complex. He had naturally guessed my intentions. Over the past two hours, he had been following me while we cleared out those Vengeful Spirit strongholds. He had obtained many Pure Yin Stones during that time. After devouring those Pure Yin Stones, he was on the verge of breaking through to the level of a Millennium Ghost General. Having just tasted success, his loyalty towards me had significantly increased. However, upon hearing that I wanted to recruit a Millennium Ghost General, his first reaction was fear that his position might be threatened, which explained his momentary hesitation.
Nevertheless, Xu Qing quickly regained his composure. He pointed to a location on my left and said, "My lord, there is a Millennium Ghost General stronghold in that direction, about half an hour's journey from here. I'll take you there now!"
"Alright, lead the way," I nodded in agreement. I was quite satisfied with Xu Qing's response. Although he hesitated for a brief moment at first, he ultimately chose to provide me with information, indicating that he genuinely wanted to assist me.
After about half an hour of travel under Xu Qing's guidance, we arrived at a barren valley. The valley was only about the size of a football field and was shrouded in a dense Eerie Energy that made it appear particularly mysterious.
I raised an eyebrow and looked at Xu Qing with suspicion as I asked, "Xu Qing, are you sure this is the stronghold of a Millennium Ghost General?"
I was filled with doubt about this valley because the three Vengeful Spirit strongholds I had previously cleared were all much larger than this valley. Moreover, those strongholds were surrounded by patrolling Vengeful Spirits. If this truly was the stronghold of a Millennium Ghost General, we wouldn't be able to approach it so easily.
Xu Qing seemed unable to withstand my gaze, beads of cold sweat forming on his forehead. He hurriedly explained, "My lord, this is the stronghold of the Millennium Ghost General. I can stake my life on it; there’s no mistake!"
"Oh! What exactly is going on here?" I replied coldly, looking at Xu Qing with a neutral tone.
Xu Qing wiped the sweat from his brow and continued, "My lord, I came to this place once when I was exploring the Ghost Realm with others. This valley is home to a very powerful Millennium Ghost General. Aside from that Millennium Ghost General, there are no other ghostly beings residing here, which is why the valley is so quiet."
"My former leader wanted to ally with this Millennium Ghost General to venture deeper into the Ghost Realm, but he was defeated by the Millennium Ghost General right away. We were all driven out before we even got a glimpse of its true form."
"I brought you here because I want you to invite this Millennium Ghost General to come out! If you can subdue that Millennium Ghost General, you will gain a powerful subordinate! At that point, the entire Ghost Realm will be yours to explore!" Xu Qing said with a smile and a bow. Although I knew his last few words were flattery, they still made me feel quite pleased.
I nodded, acknowledging Xu Qing's explanation. If he wasn't lying, then the powerful Millennium Ghost General residing in this valley could indeed meet my current needs. After thinking for a moment, I spoke in a calm tone, "Xu Qing, you and your group of Vengeful Spirits wait outside. I will go in alone to meet this Millennium Ghost General!"
If it truly was about dealing with the Millennium Ghost General, then Xu Qing and his companions would be of limited use. It was better to let them wait outside than risk their lives against that Millennium Ghost General. Besides, I had the Dog Treasure with me, which was an Eternal Ghost King; dealing with a Millennium Ghost General would be an easy task.
Holding the Demon-Subduing Staff in my hand, I quickly walked into the valley. The outside of the valley appeared shrouded in eerie energy, but inside it was clean and unobstructed.
I glanced around and found the valley empty except for a solitary wooden cabin. Outside the cabin was a Black Stone Table where a figure sat drinking tea, looking relaxed and content.
"Eh!" The person looked up as I entered the valley and uttered a puzzled sound. However, after a few glances at me, he lost interest and returned his gaze to his tea cup.
Seeing the figure's reaction made me feel somewhat awkward; I scratched my ear and muttered to myself, "Uh? Is this really the Millennium Ghost General? Quite extraordinary indeed!"
I shook my head and lifted my leg to approach him when suddenly I noticed the ground in front of me rolling. A pale skeletal arm reached up from the soil and lunged toward me. My expression changed as I quickly dodged to the side, avoiding that bony claw.
About a minute later, a Humanoid Skeleton crawled out from the ground. It emitted a faint aura and let out a loud roar at me, brandishing a weapon made of bone as it charged forward quickly.
"What the hell is going on?" I looked at the skeleton in confusion, and with the Demon-Subduing Staff in my hand, I smashed it down onto the skeleton, instantly reducing it to a pile of shattered bones.
With a loud crash, as the skeleton was crushed, I saw the ground beneath my feet violently convulsing. Almost twenty more skeletons began to crawl out from below, but their auras were weak; they were no match for me.
As I wondered about the origins of these skeletons, the Figure sitting nearby and sipping tea suddenly spoke up, "If you don't want to end up like them, you should leave here quickly! Otherwise, you will die a terrible death!"
