Following the map provided by Lin Hanyu, I explored all the marked locations and discovered that they were all on the outskirts of the Ghost Realm's Demon and Dao Battlefield.
Within those Demon and Dao Battlefields, there were many contaminated Pure Yin Stones, as well as some ghosts controlled by Evil Qi. The cultivation levels of those ghosts were at the Vengeful Spirit tier, with no sign of Millennium Ghost Generals or Evil Gods present.
"Ultimate Earth, Mystical Arts Have Methods! All laws return to their source, a single finger of divine movement! Annihilate!" I summoned the Evil Qi within me and unleashed a Taoist Magic technique, easily obliterating a Vengeful Spirit. After being struck, the Vengeful Spirit was left in disarray, and a wisp of red Evil Qi floated in the air.
"Haha! This is already the three hundredth Vengeful Spirit I've slain! Once I absorb this wisp of Evil Qi, this Soul Mask will be restored!" I laughed heartily, holding the Soul Mask in my hand as I drew the floating Evil Qi into it.
Ever since I had slain my first Vengeful Spirit, the Soul Mask had actively absorbed the residual Evil Qi from the Vengeful Spirits and was gradually recovering.
The mask, which had originally been shattered into pieces, had now restored over ninety percent of its form, with only a few cracks remaining unrepaired.
"Uh! Is it still not enough?" I observed that although the cracks on the Soul Mask had diminished significantly after absorbing the Evil Qi, it was still a bit short of complete restoration.
I carefully stored the Soul Mask close to me and took out the map to check; there was only one location left that I hadn't visited. My eyes glowed with swirling red Evil Qi as I instinctively spoke, "Hmm! It seems that to fully restore this Soul Mask, I can only visit the last Demon and Dao Battlefield!"
After determining my direction, I headed towards the final Demon and Dao Battlefield. I noticed that Lin Hanyu had marked that location with a red symbol on the map, indicating potential danger. Initially hesitant to go there, my consciousness was subtly influenced by the allure of Evil Qi, leading me there unconsciously.
After more than half an hour, I finally arrived at that Demon and Dao Battlefield. The situation there was similar to what I had encountered before—chaotic energy and uneven ground made it appear desolate.
"There’s nothing particularly special about this place!" After walking quite a distance within the Demon and Dao Battlefield without encountering any danger, I felt a sense of relaxation.
"Hey! Why is this Pure Yin Stone not contaminated by Evil Qi?!" I spotted a walnut-sized Pure Yin Stone on the ground. Picking it up for a closer look, I found that it was black in color and contained no traces of Evil Qi; it was just an ordinary Pure Yin Stone, completely different from those I had seen in other Demon and Dao Battlefields.
I furrowed my brows, filled with confusion. After walking for a while in the Demon and Dao Battlefield, I stumbled upon five Pure Yin Stones that had not been tainted by Evil Qi. At that moment, an ominous premonition arose within me.
"Something's not right! These Pure Yin Stones shouldn't go unnoticed by others, and how come I haven't encountered a single Ghostly Being during my time here?" I drew the Rusty Sword from my side, nervously scanning my surroundings. My body began to slowly retreat; this Demon and Dao Battlefield felt strange, and I was eager to leave. As for repairing the Soul Mask, I could just go to another Demon and Dao Battlefield to capture a few Vengeful Spirits.
Just as I took a few steps back, a chilling wind swept through the Demon and Dao Battlefield, and a Figure suddenly appeared before me, blocking my path.
"Child, why are you running?" The Figure was an elderly man with kind eyes. He stood in front of me with a smile, seemingly without any ill intent. However, he gave off a dangerous aura; his cultivation level was at least that of a Millennium Ghost General. To my surprise, the old man wore a Daoist Robe, resembling the attire of a Daoist Sect master. I speculated that he must be a Taoist Master who had died in the Demon and Dao Battlefield.
As the saying goes, one should not strike someone who is smiling. Seeing that the old man did not make any aggressive moves, I lowered my Rusty Sword and bowed to him, asking with curiosity, "Elder, why are there no Ghostly Beings in this Demon and Dao Battlefield? And how come these Pure Yin Stones have not been tainted by Evil Qi? This is simply impossible!"
The Figure stroked his beard and let out a hearty laugh. "Ha ha! What’s impossible about it? With my Dao Jing guarding this Demon and Dao Battlefield, how would those Ghostly Beings dare to intrude? As for those Pure Yin Stones not being tainted by Evil Qi, it’s because I personally dispersed the Evil Qi above them; I usually rely on those Pure Yin Stones for my cultivation!"
"I see!" I nodded and placed the Pure Yin Stones I had gathered on the ground. I cupped my hands towards the Dao Jing elder and said apologetically, "Senior, these Pure Yin Stones were what I just picked up; I didn’t know they belonged to you. Please forgive my offense!"
"Ha ha! You’re quite considerate!" Dao Jing laughed heartily. His gaze towards me softened even more as he suddenly flashed over to my side and swiftly snatched the Soul Mask from me.
Dao Jing's movement was too sudden for me to react in time. After witnessing the Soul Mask being taken away, the Evil Qi in my eyes became extremely agitated, igniting a surge of anger within me. The Evil Qi within surged forth, causing me to appear possessed.
"Damn it! What have you done? Give me back my mask!" I shouted angrily as the Evil Qi infused into the Rusty Sword, sending it slashing toward Dao Jing with murderous intent. All I could think about was reclaiming that Soul Mask; nothing else mattered.
Dao Jing easily dodged my attack. In a flash, he was beside me again. He raised his hand and struck my forehead while loudly admonishing me, "Child, wake up!"
Dao Jing had already transformed into a ghost; he could not use the Taoist Magic he had learned while alive; otherwise, with just a wave of his hand, he could disperse the Evil Qi within me. After all, my possession was still at a relatively shallow level.
Although he could not wield Daoist Magic, Dao Jing relied on the immense Eerie Aura within him to disperse the Evil Qi in my vision with a single palm strike, allowing my consciousness to return. At the same time, my body trembled, and the Evil Qi within me became turbulent, relentlessly battering my internal organs. I broke out in a cold sweat from the pain, feeling a sweetness in my throat before spitting out a mouthful of fresh blood.
"Senior, what is happening to me?" I asked, my eyes regaining clarity as my face turned pale, looking at Dao Jing with confusion and concern.
