I just took down that Vengeful Spirit with a single strike, but a large portion of my Daoist Magic was devoured by the spirit of the Broken Sword. Fortunately, it didn't take too much time.
"It seems this Broken Sword was picked up by Lin Hanyu on this battlefield! I wonder if there are any similar artifacts around here!" I thought to myself as I oriented myself and began to chase after the direction where Dog Treasure had gone. Due to the brief interruption caused by the Vengeful Spirit, Dog Treasure's figure had already vanished from my sight, leaving me to pursue in roughly the right direction.
Meanwhile, outside this battlefield, Li Yongkang appeared at the spot where I had entered, accompanied by a group of Vengeful Spirits.
Li Yongkang looked greedily into the area, his voice darkly amused as he said, "Heh heh! Finally caught up! This time you can't escape!"
One of the Vengeful Spirits sensed the strange aura in front of them and became serious. He spoke up, "Li Ge, this should be a Demon and Dao Battlefield within the Ghost Realm! Are we really going in?"
The Demon and Dao Battlefield was actually a place where a group of Taoist Masters invaded the Ghost Realm with the purpose of slaying evil spirits. Every ten years, they would engage in a great battle against the evil spirits within the Ghost Realm, slaying many while also losing some Taoist Masters in the process. There were many such battlefields within the Ghost Realm, and this particular Demon and Dao Battlefield was just one of them.
Another Vengeful Spirit's eyes filled with fear as he trembled slightly and said, "Li Ge, I've been to a Demon and Dao Battlefield before and found many Pure Yin Stones contaminated by Evil Qi. I also saw some naive ghosts venture inside and consume those Pure Yin Stones! They all lost their sanity and transformed into powerful Vengeful Spirits, even encountering Millennium Ghost Generals! If we go in there, we might not be able to handle it!"
Li Yongkang frowned; he had heard some rumors about the Demon and Dao Battlefield. However, seeing that Demon Beast inside, he couldn't possibly give up so easily. With a wave of his hand, he declared, "Everyone shouldn't worry! This is the edge of the Ghost Realm; there won't be any powerful Vengeful Spirits here! Even if there are Ghost Generals present, with so many of us together, even if we can't defeat a Ghost General, we can certainly escape from their subordinates!"
"Moreover, that Demon Beast senses the Pure Yin Stones within the Demon and Dao Battlefield; it must also sense other Pure Yin Stones within the Ghost Realm! As long as we capture that Demon Beast, we have a chance to become Ghost Generals!" At this point, Li Yongkang's expression turned excited as he scanned the surrounding Vengeful Spirits and shouted loudly, "The opportunity to become Millennium Ghost Generals is right before us! Who among you is willing to join me in capturing that Demon Beast?"
"I am willing! I want to become a Millennium Ghost General and venture into the deepest parts of the Ghost Realm!" The Vengeful Spirits eagerly responded one after another. Li Yongkang nodded in satisfaction as he led the group of Vengeful Spirits into the Demon and Dao Battlefield.
Unbeknownst to me about the pursuing Vengeful Spirits behind me, even if I did know about them, I had no intention of concerning myself with Li Yongkang. I was facing an even greater trouble now; three Millennium Ghost Generals appeared before me.
The three Millennium Ghost Generals blocked my path while Dog Treasure was submerged in a pit behind them filled with a pool of red liquid. What caught my attention was that this red liquid emitted no hint of blood; instead, it radiated a strong aura of Evil Qi from within.
“Woof Woof~~” Dog Treasure was submerged in a pool of liquid filled with Evil Qi. Its eyes were tightly shut, and it wore an expression of enjoyment, occasionally letting out excited barks.
I watched as Dog Treasure involuntarily consumed the liquid, its aura growing stronger and its body becoming more robust. If the previous Dog Treasure resembled a typical pet dog, the current Dog Treasure was now a fierce hunting dog.
“Dog Treasure, wake up! Stop consuming that Evil Qi!” I shouted urgently at Dog Treasure in the pit.
“Stinky Taoist, are you looking for death?” one of the Millennium Ghost Generals said coldly, his eyes filled with murderous intent as he glared at me. In an instant, he transformed into a blur and charged at me.
Although the three Millennium Ghost Generals emitted a red Eerie Aura, their minds remained intact and were not controlled by the Evil Qi. Therefore, if I faced them head-on, I had no chance of winning unless I could summon the spirit of the Broken Sword once again.
As I saw the Millennium Ghost General rushing toward me, a strong sense of danger surged within me. I quickly channeled all the remaining Daoist Magic within me into the Broken Sword in my hand while swiftly forming a Spell with my left hand. I recited, “Ultimate Earth, Mystical Arts Have Methods, Exorcise Demons and Eliminate Spirits, Three Pure Ones Bestow Divine Power! Spirit Severing Technique, command!”
As soon as my words fell, a beam of white light shot from the Broken Sword, aimed at the approaching Ghost General. This time, I failed to awaken the spirit within the Broken Sword, so the power of my Taoist Magic was insufficient to defeat the Millennium Ghost General before me.
“Hmph! A mere trick!” The Ghost General scoffed disdainfully. His right hand was enveloped in Evil Qi, and he struck the white light with a punch, shattering my attack effortlessly. The only consequence was that the Evil Qi on his right hand was dispersed; he suffered no real injury.
“Stinky Taoist, you can die now!” The Ghost General’s eyes flashed with killing intent as his right hand became entwined with Evil Qi, transforming into sharp bone claws that lunged toward my heart.
A cold sweat broke out on my back as I hurriedly discarded my weapon. I quickly summoned my internal Buddhist Power, then pressed my palms together and sincerely recited, “Buddhist Body Protection, retreat evil spirits! Neither born nor dead, protect body and heart! Buddhist Golden Bell Shield! Namo Amitabha Buddha!”
As soon as I finished speaking, I was enveloped in a glow of golden light, and a phantom of a golden bell appeared around me, shielding my body within it. This move, the Buddhist Golden Bell Shield, was something I had recently comprehended from the Sutra in my Dantian.
“Boom~~” A loud crash echoed as the bone claws of the Ghost General struck my chest. My body was sent flying, and the Buddhist light surrounding me was instantly shattered. I felt a sweetness in my throat as blood erupted from my mouth.
The Ghost General, seeing that his strike had not killed me, spoke with some irritation, "I didn't expect you to be a practitioner of Buddhism, but you will still die!"
Just as I got back on my feet, I saw the Ghost General charging at me once more. I quickly summoned the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva from my Dantian and raised my hand to strike at the Ghost General.
"Woof Woof~~" At that moment, the Dog Treasure in the pit suddenly let out a pained howl. I turned to look and found that the Evil Qi in the pit had been mostly devoured by the Dog Treasure, leaving only a trace behind.
The expressions of the other two Ghost Generals grew serious. They hurriedly cut their wrists and poured their own Evil Qi into the pit. The one with the highest cultivation among them said, "Old Three, don't worry about that kid; go catch some Vengeful Spirits! This Demon Beast is eating too much!"
