Upon seeing the Figure, Lin Hanyu's expression turned serious. He said to me, "Jiang Ling, something feels off about this basement! We need to be cautious!" 0

"I understand!" I nodded, hanging the useless Broken Sword at my waist and holding the Demon-Subduing Staff in my hand as I slowly approached the Figure. 0

"Could Wang Xinyu have known I would come?" I furrowed my brow, pondering. Looking back, our entry into this basement had been too smooth; we hadn't encountered any trouble along the way, which was not typical of a Western Wizard's style. 0

Lin Hanyu nudged me and pointed toward the altar. "Jiang Ling, look under that altar; there's something there!" 0

Following Lin Hanyu's direction, I noticed a group of fist-sized shadows hiding beneath the altar. If one didn't look closely, they could easily miss their presence. 0

"Chirp chirp~~" The shadows clearly realized we were there. With their red eyes fixed on us, they emitted a series of piercing shrieks before charging out all at once. 0

"Watch out!" I instinctively shouted as I saw the group of shadows lunging for our heads, aiming to bite our faces. 0

I stepped back continuously while swinging the Demon-Subduing Staff at the shadows. It was then that I realized these shadows were actually a swarm of Bats—at least thirty or forty of them. 0

"What the hell, there are so many Bats!" My scalp tingled as I observed these peculiar Bats. They showed no fear of humans and relentlessly dove toward us as if we were their food. 0

"Are you all not afraid of dying?" I yelled, swinging my Demon-Subduing Staff down and managing to kill three or four Bats with each strike. However, the others showed no signs of fear and continued to charge at us madly. The sheer number of Bats overwhelmed me, and my exposed arms were covered in numerous bites. 0

After more than ten minutes of struggle, Lin Hanyu and I were exhausted and finally managed to eliminate all the Bats. Even when only one Bat remained, it charged at us without hesitation until Lin Hanyu caught it with his hand and tore it apart with a swift motion. 0

Lin Hanyu's clothes were shredded by the Bats, leaving him looking quite disheveled. Fortunately, he had an Eerie Aura protecting him, so he didn't suffer many wounds from their bites. After carefully examining one of the Bats in his hand, his expression grew grave. He sniffed it and said, "Jiang Ling, these Bats are filled with human blood. They are not ordinary Bats but rather Blood Bats created by someone! These creatures feed on blood and are particularly vicious; it's no wonder they attacked us!" 0

I nodded, having heard a bit about the Blood Bat, and thought to myself, "So this must be the trick concocted by that Western Wizard!" 0

"Ugh ugh~~" At that moment, a vague sound came from deep within the basement, and I saw the curtain in front of the figure fall down, obscuring it. 0

"Squeak squeak~~" A Blood Bat, as large as a basin, let out a strange cry and landed on top of the figure's head. It had a prominent tuft of white hair on its head, and its body was blood-red, giving it an imposing appearance. 0

"Squeak squeak squeak~~" The giant Blood Bat screeched again, its eyes glinting with ferocity as it flapped its wings and transformed into a blur, charging towards us with great momentum. 0

"I was wondering why I hadn't seen the leader of this group of bats; turns out it was hiding in the back!" I remained calm as I watched the Blood Bat fly towards us. Individually, these Blood Bats weren't particularly formidable; even this giant one could be taken down in moments. 0

I sensed a faint aura of malevolence emanating from the giant Blood Bat. Therefore, I summoned my inner Buddhist Power and infused my Demon-Subduing Staff with magical energy. At the same time, I chanted aloud: "Evil spirits run rampant, causing chaos among the living! The Buddhist Sect shows compassion to save the world! Good and evil are rewarded; punish the wicked spirits! Buddhist Sect's method to eliminate evil, suppress the malevolent spirits! Namo Amitabha Buddha!" 0

As soon as my words fell, a Golden Buddha Light radiated from my Demon-Subduing Staff. A powerful aura from the Buddhist Sect surged forth, startling the giant Blood Bat into halting its advance, fear evident in its eyes. 0

"Squeak squeak~~" The giant Blood Bat let out a panicked cry. It flapped its wings in an attempt to escape me, but it was already too late. I swung my Demon-Subduing Staff down hard onto its head. Enveloped by the Golden Buddha Light, its soul was swiftly exorcised by my Buddhist Spell. The giant Blood Bat's body stiffened and fell straight to the ground—dead beyond revival. 0

"Impressive!" Lin Hanyu exclaimed upon witnessing my feat. 0

I dissipated the Buddhist Power from my Demon-Subduing Staff and turned my gaze towards the figure not far away. The figure appeared very thin; it couldn't possibly be Wang Xinyu. Moreover, it hadn't moved at all so far, as if it had been forcibly fixed in place. I speculated that it likely wasn't the Western Wizard hired by Wang Xinyu either. 0

"Who could this be?" I furrowed my brow in confusion. I approached and used my Demon-Subduing Staff to lift the curtain off the figure, revealing what lay beneath. 0

The figure was completely naked except for a pair of shorts. Its limbs were bound behind it with iron rods, and both tendons in its hands and feet had been severed—no wonder it couldn't move. 0

Lin Hanyu saw the countless wounds on the man's body, crimson blood flowing all over him. His expression darkened as he said, "The blood in those Blood Bats must have been sucked from him! Anyone who can do something so cruel is definitely not a good person!" 0

"Ugh..." The man looked at us, hope flickering in his eyes, making indistinct sounds as his mouth opened wide. When I glanced over, I noticed dried blood on his lips, and half of his tongue had been cut off. 0

"You are one of the Yellow-Haired Leopard's subordinates!" I recognized him after a moment of thought; his appearance seemed familiar. 0

"Ugh..." The man nodded, as if he had much to tell me, but unfortunately, he could not speak properly without his tongue. 0

As I looked at him, an ominous premonition rose within me. Just as I was about to help him untie the ropes binding him, a ringtone suddenly echoed from his stomach. 0

"Ding ding ding~~ Ding ding ding~~" 0
