"Trying to run? Not a chance!" The Western Flying Skull noticed my movement and transformed its head into a dark shadow, lunging toward me. The speed of the Western Flying Skull was astonishing; if I focused solely on escaping, it would catch up to me in no time, leaving me with no chance of survival.
"Damn it, I’ll fight back!" I steeled myself and abandoned the thought of fleeing. I summoned the last remnants of my Buddhist Power, calling forth the Buddhist Manifestation from my Dantian. With my hands pressed together, my expression turned serious as I recited with a clear mind: "Buddhist Teachings to Save All Beings, ferrying humans, demons, and spirits! As for the Undead, reincarnate and forget the mortal realm! Buddhist Transformation Palm! Namo Amitabha Buddha!"
As soon as my words fell, the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Buddha Manifestation behind me raised its right hand and struck down toward the Western Flying Skull.
"Hah! With your strength, you dare to act against me? Let me show you the gap between us!" The Western Flying Skull did not dodge or evade my Buddha's Palm of Salvation. Instead, its hair stood on end, becoming sharp like a porcupine.
"Break for me!" The Western Flying Skull roared as its entire head collided with my Buddhist Manifestation, crashing directly into the incoming Buddha's Palm.
"Bang!" A loud sound echoed as the once unstoppable Buddha's Palm of Salvation hit a solid barrier. It only managed to flatten a large patch of the Western Flying Skull's scalp without killing it. On the contrary, after absorbing the attack from my Buddha Manifestation, it immediately opened its gaping maw and bit down on the Buddha Manifestation, tearing it into shreds.
"Poof!" I felt a backlash from my body; a sweet taste filled my throat as I spat out a mouthful of blood. The shattered Buddhist Manifestation transformed into strands of golden light from the Buddhist Sect, re-entering my Dantian to begin reconstituting the Buddhist Manifestation. Normally, without at least ten to fifteen days, I wouldn’t be able to summon my Buddhist Manifestation again.
"Western Flying Skull, you’ve forced my hand!" I had anticipated this outcome. Seizing the moment while the Western Flying Skull was occupied with my Buddha Manifestation, I rushed over and picked up the Demon-Subduing Staff from the ground, preparing to unleash my trump card.
"Hah! You think that with just a broken stick you can deal with me? How laughable!" The Western Flying Skull rasped mockingly before letting out a chilling laugh. It shook its head and charged at me again, this time opening its bloody maw wide as it aimed to tear flesh from my face.
Sensing the imminent danger before me, I became even calmer. I extended my finger and dug out a piece of flesh about the size of my fingertip from near my heart, smearing it onto the Demon-Subduing Staff in my hand. Swiftly, I cast a spell while chanting: "Ultimate Earth, Mystical Arts Have Methods! Supreme Three Pure Ones, Daoist Guardian! Grant me Daoist Arts; bestow upon me Blood Demon! Exorcism Technique, Dao Blood Extermination! Sacrificial Dao Blood, eradicate Evil Spirit! Supreme Old Lord, hasten your command!"
As soon as I finished speaking, the Demon-Subduing Staff emitted a blood-red glow while becoming infused with Daoist Magic. The flesh I had smeared onto it was taken from near my heart and contained pure Blood Demon essence that greatly enhanced the power of the Demon-Subduing Staff. If not for being bitten by those two Demon Beasts that tore open my chest, I wouldn’t have been able to extract such pure Blood Demon essence.
"This aura is terrifying!" For the first time, fear appeared in the eyes of the Western Flying Skull as it halted momentarily, attempting to evade my desperate counterattack. But how could I let it escape?
“Daoist Sect, Exterminate the Corpse Stick, Command!” I shouted loudly, channeling the last remnants of my Daoist Magic. The Demon-Subduing Staff in my hand swung down towards the Western Flying Skull's head. A dazzling light erupted from the Demon-Subduing Staff as it struck solidly against the Western Flying Skull's Spirit Cover.
“Seeking death!” The Western Flying Skull, realizing it could not evade the blow, immediately manipulated the hair on its head to gather around its Spirit Cover, trying to protect its skull as much as possible.
“Bang!” A deafening sound echoed as my Demon-Subduing Staff hit the Western Flying Skull with tremendous force. My right hand went numb from the impact, leaving me with just enough strength to grip the Demon-Subduing Staff; I had no energy left to strike again.
“Why is it still alive?” My expression darkened as I withdrew the Demon-Subduing Staff. The Western Flying Skull had taken my desperate blow, yet only a half-finger deep dent marred its head. The area around the dent was corroded by the Taoist Magic on the Demon-Subduing Staff, leaving it a bloody mess, revealing even the bones inside the Western Flying Skull's head.
Even so, this had only severely injured the Western Flying Skull; it had not been killed outright. I had anticipated this outcome because even a Taoist Master Tablet mage would struggle to eliminate it completely. Moreover, my own strength was merely that of a Daoist Sect Cultivator, and having lost my left hand to Voodoo, achieving this much was already quite impressive.
“Am I really going to die?” I thought despairingly as I looked into the eyes of the Western Flying Skull, which were now filled with hopelessness.
“Haha, heh heh, oh oh!” The Western Flying Skull let out a frenzied laugh, its demeanor becoming increasingly erratic. It fixed its gaze on me and revealed an ugly grin. Its voice rasped as it said, “Monk, Daoist, you are quite something! You’ve done me a great favor; I am just one step away from freedom!”
The Western Flying Skull's head swayed and transformed into an afterimage that rushed towards me, coming within a hair's breadth of my nose. My heart raced in panic, thinking it was about to kill me; at that moment, I was utterly defenseless.
However, instead of attacking me, the Western Flying Skull lowered its head to reveal the wound on its Spirit Cover and rasped, “Monk, reach into my skull and pull out that Soul Binding Nail from inside; I will spare your life!”
The Soul Binding Nail was a magical artifact used by Western Wizards to control the Western Flying Skull. There were two nails in total: a master nail and a servant nail. Holding the master nail allowed one to control the Western Flying Skull and determine its fate. The master nail was naturally in Wang Hai's possession while the servant nail was embedded within the Western Flying Skull's head.
“Alright!” I guessed at the Western Flying Skull's intentions. Although I had no idea whether it would keep its promise, my life was now in its hands; I had no choice but to comply.
I peered into the Western Flying Skull’s head and saw no white matter; instead, there was a mass of black gelatinous substance that looked particularly disgusting. Frowning deeply, I steeled myself and extended my fingers into the Western Flying Skull’s head. A sensation unlike any I had ever felt coursed through my fingertips, sending shivers down my spine.
"I found it!" After groping around for a while, I finally grasped a nail about the thickness of a chopstick. With a strong tug, I pulled the Soul Binding Nail out from the Western Flying Skull's head.
