"Here they come!" I shouted, gripping the Demon-Subduing Staff tightly, not planning to run away just yet. The Seven Ghosts were charging toward me, and even if I fled, they would pursue. The most direct solution was to eliminate them.
"Haha, I'm still hungry! I want to drink human blood and eat human flesh!" The chilling cries of the Seven Ghosts echoed from a distance. They had finished off the blood in the freezer and were now seeking out a Living Person to continue their feast.
"Over there at the exit! There's a delicious scent!" The Seven Ghosts sniffed the air and quickly locked onto my position. In an instant, they dashed toward me.
Hearing their words from afar, my expression darkened, and a suspicion began to form in my mind. I muttered to myself, "There are seven Evil Spirits here. Could it be that the Seven Ghosts have been fed human blood by Wang Hai?"
Before long, the Seven Ghosts surrounded me, confirming my fears. Their appearances had undergone a grotesque transformation; their once cute faces had turned savage, covered in fresh blood as if they had bathed in it. What concerned me even more was the bloodthirsty aura radiating from them, as if they were driven by an urge to kill. This was the consequence of Wang Hai force-feeding them human blood.
"Haha, it's that coward we scared earlier! He's the one who killed our big brother!" One of the ghosts recognized me and let out a chilling laugh, licking his lips with greed. "Let's all attack him together and feast on his flesh and blood!"
"I want to eat his brain and suck out the marrow! Don't you dare compete with me!"
"I'll carve open his chest and devour his heart! The heart of a Living Person is the tastiest!"
The Seven Ghosts lunged at me with claws bared, their momentum fierce. Having consumed so much human blood, each ghost had cultivated for about thirty years. To deal with them individually would require a Daoist Sect Cultivator; even for a skilled practitioner, facing all seven together would be quite challenging.
However, I was a master of both Daoism and Buddhism, so dealing with these Seven Ghosts would be easy for me.
"You Seven Ghosts have become such abominations in this world; today I shall act on behalf of justice and send you back to where you belong!" My voice was cold as I swung the Demon-Subduing Staff at the approaching spirits.
I secretly channeled my Buddhist Power, my expression turning serious as I executed a technique I had just comprehended from Buddhism. The Demon-Subduing Staff emitted a Golden Buddha Light as I recited with a focused mind: "The Buddhist Sect teaches that all beings have spirits! Life and death are determined by fate; all things share the same realm! Descend from the celestial mountains and return to your homeland! Evil spirits cling to dust and harm living beings! Fall into the Sea of Suffering; turn back to find shore! Summoning Buddha's Law, awaken with the Buddha's staff! Namo Amitabha Buddha!"
As soon as my words fell, the Demon-Subduing Staff in my hand emitted an even more dazzling light, revealing numerous thumb-sized Buddhist Manifestations hidden within the radiance. These Buddhist Manifestations clasped their hands together, their expressions sincere as they recited Buddhist Scriptures, and I could faintly hear a whisper of their voices.
"Ah! No!" I struck a ghost on the head with the Demon-Subduing Staff. The sacred sound of the Buddha entered its ears, calming the ghost's previously turbulent aura. Its once crimson eyes regained clarity. The ghost stood dazed in place, allowing the light above to cleanse it, and soon, its body dissipated into the void.
All of this happened quickly, in just five or six seconds. Although the other ghosts felt fear creeping in, they rushed forward at high speed, unable to escape immediately.
"You shall also return to the West!" A glint flashed in my eyes as I did not pause with the Demon-Subduing Staff and struck at the heads of the other ghosts.
"The Buddhist Sect says that all beings have spirits! Life and death are determined by fate; all things share the same realm! Descend upon the celestial mountain, return to your homeland! Evil spirits cling to dust, harming living beings! Fall into the Suffering Sea; turning back is salvation! Summoning Buddha's Law, awaken with the Buddha's staff! Namo Amitabha Buddha!" I repeated these words of Buddha several times, extinguishing four more ghosts with my final breath while only two managed to escape. At this moment, my Buddhist Power was nearly depleted, and my face turned pale.
"Run!" The two remaining ghosts were shaken by my methods; they dared not linger and turned to flee into the distance.
"Where do you think you're going?" I had already prepared for this; there was no way I would let these two ghosts escape. I quickly bit my tongue, spraying a mouthful of Tongue Blood onto them while swiftly forming a Hand Seal with my right hand. I silently chanted: "Separation Fire descend, eradicate souls; evil spirits blocking the path turn to dust! Lingling, Earth Spirit, Supreme Old Lord, heed my command! Separation Fire Talisman, decree!"
I summoned all my Daoist Magic to execute this move. As soon as my words fell, the Tongue Blood transformed into blazing Separation Fire that engulfed the bodies of the two ghosts.
"Ah! No!" The two ghosts became fiery figures, struggling against the flames that consumed them. After about twenty seconds of burning in Separation Fire, they turned to ash and dissipated into the air.
"Ha! Finally dealt with this group of ghosts!" I let out a long breath and turned to look deeper into the basement, speaking irritably: "Wang Hai is nothing but scum; he raised good Seven Ghosts into Evil Spirits! Next time I encounter him, I'll demand tenfold compensation!"
Shaking my head, I turned and pushed open the iron door before stepping out of the basement. Just then, a shadow suddenly lunged from the darkness on my right directly toward my hand. That shadow was none other than the Western Flying Skull lurking in the dark.
"Not good!" The moment I saw that shadow, a sense of danger surged within me. I hurriedly threw the Demon-Subduing Staff at it while swiftly dodging to the side.
The Western Flying Skull darted to the side, easily dodging the Demon-Subduing Staff I had thrown, but it also missed the best opportunity for a sneak attack. There it hovered in front of me, a grotesque smile spreading across its face as it rasped, "Heh heh, monk, you have no weapon in hand. How will you fight me? Don't resist; I can make your death painless!"
"Western Flying Skull! It seems Wang Hai bought a lot of twisted Evil Path items from that Western Wizard!" My expression turned grave as I realized the implications. The sight of that grotesquely deformed skull sent a chill down my spine; I recognized its origins all too well.
The process of creating the Western Flying Skull was exceedingly evil, which also resulted in its high cultivation level. Even a Taoist Master Tablet mage could only barely handle the simplest of Western Flying Skulls.
My Daoist and Buddhist Powers were nearly exhausted, and my current state was far from ideal; I was no match for this Western Flying Skull.
"I can't confront it head-on; I need to find a way to escape!" I thought to myself, stealthily moving toward the exit.
